A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

No. Gilda was a bird brain.
Yeah, I'm guessing they didn't include her because then there would be a giant elephant in the room of why she and RD never interact. Because you know Gilda would go full Jerk Jock on her. Maybe when we get to the Equestria Games proper she'll be there.
Reaction Image RepositoryApparently, Verizon was updating my cable box, so I missed the first 7 minutes. I mostly enjoyed it. I was a little worried once Spitfire and Fleetfoot looked at each other before turning to Dash, but I think the whole thing with Soarin tied it all together.
I am questioning Bulk Bicep's performance, though. He was flying just fine in Hurricane Fluttershy and he was clearly good enough to join Wonderbolt Academy. Fluttershy at least seemed consistent, it was more her clumsiness and passive nature regarding the horse shoe pass rather than her skills as a flyer.

@JT: I like that they acknowledge other Griffons, even if we don't hear them talk.

Yeah, it was actually pretty cool to see Griffons on the qualifying teams. The fact that there's three together suggests a really griffon-heavy settlement in Equestria too... I wonder if we'll ever hear anything about it? That'd be kinda cool.
It was probably an animator decision over a writer one though, so I kinda doubt it.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Ako: It seemed to me like he was getting too excited and introducing inefficiencies that wore him down really quickly. Got nothing for the end, though, as after that training, he probably should've had his enthusiasm under control.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. It's funny how I was going to wonder why no pony more qualified for the relay team was going to compete, but the episode took care of that early. Also nice to see some other ponies who are not RD's friends or the Wonderbolts acknowledge her abilities.
Spitfire and Fleetfoot probably would have come across better if their mannerisms and the way they talked wasn't so obviously sleazy, though it is somewhat inline with Spitfire's behavior in Wonderbolt Academy, where she really isn't to concerned about the danger Lightning Dust and RD's antics posed because of how impressive their results were. Also, poor Soarin.
I kind of liked how RD choose not to choose initially, it seemed rather appropriate for her I think. I also like how she ultimately came to her decision not just by how her friends treated her, but by how the other Wonderbolts treated Soarin.
Overall I think it was a decent episode, but I think it would have worked better earlier in the season and could have made Spitfire and Fleetfoot not as "obviously the bad side".
Also, I can't put it on the page yet because it's currently being edited, but here's a picture to use for the recap page:
