A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

We haven't really seen any evidence that alicorns have any special traits aside from a slight size increase and longevity.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Not evidence, no, just theorizing. though, depending on how exactly Luna was on the moon...
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. They need to have more than longevity. Luna survived on the moon (no food, no water, no air) for 1000 years. After being hit by a laser. And according to Faust (twitter post, don't have a link to it at the moment but I have it in my derpibooru faves) Celestia was sent to the SUN for a little while when Nightmare Moon returned.
That's immortality, though they may have a weakness to magic that can bypass it (to explain how Chrysalis was able to beat Celestia).

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I have to go in to work at 6am tomorrow, so I'm gonna miss the show. bleh.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I always assumed she was magically sealed away, not just trotting around on the surface of the moon. There's not really any evidence either way though.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Also, Immortality is not Deathlessness.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Chryssi should have at least pretended to know Twi, if only to deceive her for a while longer.
\*Twi greets "Cadance" with secret hoofshake*
"Cadance": What are you doing?
Yeah, dumb.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!The whole moon thing is basically "It's magic". We have no clue what was going on up there. As for Chrysalis, my headcanon is that at first she was more "in-character", but as the wedding got closer she started acting more bitchy, both to emphasize the idea that she was just really stressed, as well as because she was getting sick of acting "good" all the time. By the time Twilight showed up, her plan was so close to fruition that she decided to screw trying to act like Cadance and just chucked Twilight into the dungeon instead.
And now I sleep, so I will be able to wake up for the episode tomorrow.
Immortality... kind of is deathleassness, though. Immortality. Not mortal. Does not die.
Agelessness, on the other hand... either way, the exact nature of their lives has never been explicitly defined. Hell, my headcanon is that they're actually dead already, they're just powerful enough to persist anyways.

Aw, don't ruin my image of her happily dancing and riding a mechanical dolphin.
I suppose it's possible she was just sealed in the moon and wasn't active during that time. How do you seal someone in the sun without them dying from it, though? If it's magic, that's a lot of magic.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Not really. The funny thing about being able to do anything is that you can't really quantify magic.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell I think it's fairly safe to assume it's high-level or intense magic. I mean, in what fantasy series is it normal for a magic user to be able to seal someone in the moon or sun?
I know you "can't quantify" magic. But I think you can take a shot in the dark and say that's a rather impressive feat.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I've seen some interesting methods for measuring magic and it's pretty similar to radiation detection.

Given Cadence's status as an Alicorn, it's possible that she wouldn't actually starve at all. Or at least, much slower.
I feel like she would have had to be impersonating Cadence for quite a while, in order for Twilight to not hear about the wedding until like a week beforehand.
