A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

He never had a son in the original series why need another child in his life? What were the girls themselves just too much for him to handle in the anime series on his own? The thing with Powerpuff Girls Z is that it's adding bells and whistles to a show that didn't even need them in the first place.
"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus Primein Z, Utonium didn't create the PPG. he only caused the accident that gave them their powers.

wat.
The girls aren't his daughters in this series, they're actually strangers when they start off, IIRC. Maybe because of that, they added a son for Utonium. edit: What Crimson said.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkSounds like they changed a lot in the anime adaptation. :l
Gwen- sorry you can't get your supplies. What are they for? The custom thingy you were gonna do?
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Star: Well, if you wanna get technical about it, the girls weren't related to him in the original series either; at least biologically. *brick'd*
But yeah, the single-dad-raising-three-girls bit was something I really liked about the original. I thought it was really sweet.
@Mike: Indeed. The only reason this show exists is because Japanese networks didn't want foreign shows cluttering up non-cable networks, but PPG was still really popular in Japan.
On another note: it stopped raining, so maybe I can talk somebody into it now.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. Sark@Starscream: nope. like i said before, it's an alternate universe, but more than a few things stayed the same: Utonium, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Princess Morbucks' personalities are still intact, Him is as creepy as he was in the original show, and Mojo Jojo is still the creator of the Rowdyruff Boys.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.If anything I'd say that Him is even creepier in the remake, because he's obviously, directly malicious.
Now granted I was never huge into the american series - I was young enough when it was airing that there was a definite sense of 'Ew, Girls', if only in how I wanted other people to perceive my tastes, but from what I saw, Him never bothered me that much as a kid. I got that he was supposed to be vaguely eerie, but aside from being generally kind of a creep nothing he ever did seemed that bad. in the anime, Him's very first appearance features him Abducting Utonium and Son, haranguing the girls into a globtrotting wild goose chase to get them back, and then curbstomping the girls with their own weapons. All while having a hell of a time. Dude was spooky.
But then, maybe that's just perspective. Him creeps me out a lot more as an adult because I've met people like him, and I'd bet any money those people had some real-world, less-than-savoury intentions towards me or others.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Didn't she appear in the pilot? I suppose that doesn't count since she doesn't appear for very long.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Star: Japan would rather support domestically made shows rather then foreign ones, I guess. Japan is still very much off in its own world in some ways. To be fair, America is much the same way, judging by how many shows we remake.
@kegi: I never reached any of the episodes where Him appears, so I'll take your word for it. He was essentially the Big Bad of the series right?
I should probably go back and watch the show all the way through. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting into Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch territory. Even for a bad show, that's unfair.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. Sark@star. Whoa now, rein in your gallop there little filly. No need to get your saddle in a bunch.
@Story. She was as well as Lady Rainicorn and the Ice King and Jake, though Finn was named Pen. Aside from that and a different cast aside from Jake and Abraham Linkon, the pilot was surprisingly close to the show, it even had a similar theme song.

@Dark Sorry I needed to get that out of my system there. But it's stupid, it really is. They import a show for their country viewing, it becomes popular over there and then they make an anime series on that show. But then again I'm asking for logic in a country that's in the past made some of the craziest animes around so I'm not gonna complain any further with this.

"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus Prime@Gwen: As much as there is a big bad, yeah.
I enjoyed the series, myself, but then again like I said I didn't know much about the original. It's on Netflix now, so maybe I'll give it a watch. I'm kinda meh on short-format shows, though.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@kegi: if you have any questions about the original show, i'll be glad to answer them.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@Crimson: Well, thanks. I prefer to go into things fresh, though. My career revolves around experiences(In theory, anyhow...), so I put a lot of stock in first viewings.
Think of me like a nega-ginger. Assuming you were here when he was around. I can never remember when everybody showed up.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.i think i showed up sometime after season 2 ended. all i know about ginger is what you guys tell me.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Ah.
Well, yeah. Not to speak ill of the banned - not that it's ill, mind - but he preferred to know everything about a show or movie or game going into it, up to and including potential twists. He had some... hair triggers.
But, irrelevant. I'll watch it if I watch it, I guess. We'll see if I even feel up to flubbing around enough to just watch something, or if work is going to turn out to be so soul-crushing I need to work on something all the time to feel not-dead.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yep. It's titled Naked Kitchen Party.
Crimson is one of the new guys. But not as new as Danny.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Playsounds like someone i used to know... namely, me.
i used to be a lot like that when it came to movies and shows. it wasn't until i watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann that i realized how much fun going into a show unspoiled could be. these days, the only info i have going into a show or movie is a brief synopsis of the plot.
@story: I repeat. wat. Scratch that, I don't think I want to know.
Yeah, I think I'm going to wait until tomorrow to get some art supplies. I'll just erase EG Celestia's face tonight and do some preliminary sketching to start.
