A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Maybe you should watch a few choice episodes from season one and the rest later?
As much as I love PPG, I couldn't really get into PPGZ. I do try to be open minded about adaptations, but I think PPGZ sorta misses was was so fun about the original. It took me about five episodes in to realize this wasn't going to grow on me. Plus I wasn't really wild about what they did with Blossoms' character.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. Sarkyou can skim, if you'd like. Though I'd suggest watching the following as a bit of a crash course in Ooo and the supporting cast:
- 1: Slumber party Panic. Mostly because it's the first ep and introduces Princess Bubblegum and the candy Kingdom.
- 2: Trouble in Lumpy Space. Introduces Lumpy Space Princess who's a major supporting character.
- 3: prisoners of Love. Introducing the ice King who's a main character, gives a feel for the kind of plots he tends to generate, and some of the many, many princesses of Ooo show up.
- 4: Tree Trunks. Debatable. tree Trunks is a minor supporting character, but this episode does end in the series first real Mind Screw and has a direct sequel in season 2's Crystals have Power.
- 5: The Enchiridion! Gives a feel for the series many Dungeon Crawl episodes and the Enchiridion is a major plot point later down the line.
- 9: My Two Favorite People. Introduces Lady Rainicorn, Jake's girlfriend and a major supporting character.
- 10: Memories of Boom boom mountain. Debatable. shows a somewhat important flashback as to why Finn became a hero and establishes a stronger brother relationship with Fin and Jake.
- 12: evicted! Introduces Ensemble Dark Horse Marceline the vampire Queen who started as a minor character and quickly joined the main cast.
- 22: Henchman: Another Marceline episode that showcases Finn's slightly twisted relationship with her.
- 25: His Hero. Introduces the great hero Billy who fought the Lich, which is a major part of the show's Myth Arc. And he has an awesome song to boot: Who's the greatest warrior ever? A hero of renown? Who slayed an evil ocean? Who cast the Lich King down? BILLY! And that time the evil Fire Count Captured a damsel fair, Who saved her with such brav'ry That she offered him her hair? BILLY! Also... HE FOUGHT A BEAR!

@Big Danny C: instead of being the level-headed, intelligent leader type, PPGZ!Blossom is an energetic superhero fangirl.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@Mike: Hola! Pretty boring down my way. It's rainy so no one will take me out to look for art supplies.
@Danny: They made her into a boy-crazy, Sentai/ Magical Girl Fangirl, with a Sweet Tooth. I don't mind two out of those three things, but they lost me at the boy-crazy. If they had nixed that part, I would have been more okay with it, (Blossom's Sentai fangirl status made for some humorous Genre Savvy moments) but I think my heavy bias toward the American show just killed it for me.
Do I get my "Crotchety Old Fan" card now?

here, you can have a gold card.
@Big Danny C: yeah, it's an alternate universe, so there are more than a few changes to the original characters. for instance, in Z, Princess Morbucks actually has superpowers, the PPG are in middle school instead of kindergarten, Prof. Utonium has a son, and the Amoeba Boys... are about as threatening as they were in the original show.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.I'm getting a good laugh outta the character page, though. I had forgotten the Ocean Group had done the dub for this, so it shares a good chunk of its VA's with pone.
I'm half temped to watch the dub now, if it weren't for the apparently awful script.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkReally? *checks*
Oh wow, Princess Celestia voices Miss Bellum? That's great. Also, why the crap does Professor Utonium have a son? Where'd he come from?

Reaction Image Repositoryi admit, i was a bit disappointed on how the dub handled Mojo Jojo's speech pattern, since in the original, it was a parody of bad anime dubs like Speed Racer.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.other than making him a bit sillier and botching his speech pattern, not much.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@JT: It Gets Better, the Ganggreen Gang consists of Shining Armor, Rarity, Gilda, Big Macintosh, and Snails.
Gilda voices Bubbles too.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. Sark@Big Danny C: sadly, no. in the Japanese version, they compensated by giving Mojo a Verbal Tic, adding "mojo" to the end of his sentences.
also, Cathy Weseluck, the voice of Spike, voices Utonium's son in the English dub.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@JT: Um... because Japan deem it necessary? Ya dun got me.
I also love how Tabitha St Germain does a lot of other little voices, too.

Well Dark recommended the later seasons.
