A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@CDRW: I've seen it, actually. I enjoyed it, but I watched it a few years ago when my standards were lower. And, I may have simply liked it for the pretty.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I noticed the book part, but I didn't pay attention to it till later.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project
Some of it was pretty subtle.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! The Apple Family's most distant bloodlines account for an impressive 10% of the population of Equestria.

For me it was.
Of course, we South Africans find preconceptions about our country to be hilarious.
@Seraphem: Yes, that's really what I look like.
I am an English South African. Which is the second largest white tribe in South Africa, though I've got a touch of Afrikaner (the largest white tribe) as well.
Also, Story swore in Gnomish. Wash your mouth out, mud person!
On the topic of growing ponies like plants, I was going to say that Luna would come from moonstones, which are an actual gemstone. What about some other characters? Here are some I thought of:
- Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Cake come from carrot and pumpkin seeds.
- Vinyl Scratch grows from buried vinyl records, or if you're going from the popular fanon of her liking dubstep, buried bass speakers.
- Sweetie Belle grows from little bells.
- Gilda grows from eagle feathers and lion fangs.
- Spike grows from matches (for his fire breath) and a railroad spike (for his name and tough skin) and must be planted in a place that has plenty gemstones for him to eat.

"Today's the day we get our cutie marks for screaming in terror!"
Good news: A 7-page preview for issue #15 of the IDW comic is up.
Bad news: The You Tube police have pulled "Pinky (sic) Apple Pie" already. I'm glad there are other options.

I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Hmm,
- Twilight: A pile of books watered with pencil shavings and ink.
- Applejack: Easy, just throw in an apple seed and toss in a cowboy hat.
- Celestia: A sunflower and a woopy cushion for her prankish side.
- Coco Pommel: sewing needles and cloth watered with chocolate milk and grown in a potted plant next to the window of a fashion mall.
- Rarity: A marshmallow and an amethyst.
- Pinkie Pie: Cotton candy watered with chocolate milk.
- Rainbow Dash: Skittles and the energy drink of your choice.

I don't feel like attempting a rerun of what I did for CDRW though. I'm not well liked myself. On the thinnest of thin ice as it were.
We already established that Rarity grows from a marshmallow.
Also, pony ceilings are kinda hard to judge, given how little we see of the interior of actual houses. The Library, Sugarcube Corner, and the boutique are all businesses as well as homes, so they're probably larger than usual. RD's home probably has a larger-than-usual ceiling as well, due to her tendency to fly a lot. This means we have to base it on Fluttershy and Applejack's homes, neither of which are exactly standard. That said, every building the cast has ever been in is high enough for Rainbow Dash to not only hover, but to do flips and stuff. Assuming the ponies are around 4 feet tall, I'd estimate the ceilings to be typically somewhere around the 12-foot range. The ponies jump around a lot, so it makes sense to have lots of overhead, especially when a sizeable portion of the population can fly.
Also, that comic preview looks amazing. Can't wait for it.

Reaction Image RepositoryNow hat you mention it Purple, all of the houses we've seen so far have had unusually high ceiling. Like, a full 8 feet, which considering their standard three-to-four foot height... guess they're an accommodating bunch.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Ponies can jump pretty high :V
