A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I was reading one of my books on linguistics and it was talking about the Ozark/Appalachian dialect and it made me think of something. Applejack and her family are one of the few heroic, main character, non-comic relief portrayals of characters with Ozark accents that I can think of. Which is very good, in my opinion. (Beverly Hillbillies might count as a more positive portrayal according to its trope page, but Applejack may stand out as a cartoon character, at least) Especially when she's contrasted with a character like Pinkie. Adds another reason that Applejack is one of my top favorite ponies. I just like that they gave her a specifically Ozark accent rather than a generic Southern/Dixie accent. (the difference is that Applejack's accent doesn't drop the "r" at the end of works, that is, her accent is rhotic)

@JT: Well, considering that we haven't seen all the potential villains yet, I'm sure Slendermane isn't even top 5 on the kill-o-meter.

And there was the comment on we'd be getting a villain.

I like to imagine Slendie is terrified of Pinkie

We already know that.

Slenderman really doesn't seem that scary.

@Ike Trust me he's not THAT scary I've sat through footage of his games not a damn scream. Then again I don't scare easy anyway.

Slenderman as a whole was only kind of unnerving when it was made forever ago, but then it just got...ridiculous.

Plus the fact that people have invented a whole mythos on this guy. A WHOLE MYTHOS on him.

The real problem with Slender is that it's boring. It's walking around for 15 mintues with nothing happening and then suddenly you die. Containment Breach is much better, with all sorts of creepy stuff and close calls going on.

I thought we were talking about Slenderman in general, not just the game.

Yeah, Slender stuff is a lot more interesting when it's not about slender.

Some of the original, Photoshop pictures with it are pretty genuinely unnerving. And the idea that thinking about it will make it show up is pretty much unfiltered Paranoia Fuel.

Guess it makes sense if you were in when it started. By the time I found out about it it had become so well know and big that the original creepiness was gone.

Also, some of the bg photobombs in Marble Hornets were pretty creepy, especially when you suddenly see him in the background.

Hey guys! I beat Dark Souls!

Just felt like telling someone. :P

More on topic, The problem with slender is that a good part of his scariness is the mystery around him. Without that he just becomes a somewhat creepy guy in a suit.

I know this is back on the topic of ponies rather than Slenderman (which I had to look up to even know what it was all about), but I had Fridge Brilliance about Pinkie's ability to take things off of the bottom of stacks. It's because of her Pinkie Sense! She knew that the stack wouldn't fall when she took that lower scroll out because her tail didn't twitch, which is supposed to tell her that something is going to fall. Which then makes me wonder if Goldie also has something similar, and if they really are related, that might be where Pinkie inherited that Pinkie sense from.
