A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

So, I just got back from seeing Frozen. It was... okay, I guess? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad I saw it, there were definitely things about it I really liked. For example, I thought the ending (as in, everything after, but not including The Reveal) was well-done. But there were just too many things about it that I didn't like about it (the aforementioned reveal, the heavily-rushed first act, Olaf...) for me to really want to see it again.
Am I the only one to have had this reaction? Because what made me want to see it in the first place was how I kept hearing how incredible it was, and I was really hyped to see it going in.
Oh, and is it just me, or did the chanting during the opening credits sound more like it came from The Lion King than something set in the middle of Europe?

Let's hope it's like that, but that would be Shty tough to explain in a kid's series.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justice@Ike: The Free church of Scotland is well-known for being very... conservative. It's actually the reason my grandmother came to Canada in the first place - she got pregnant out of wedlock, and while her father, being fairly rational and easy-going for a minister of the Free church, was mostly okay with it, the congregation... not so much. So in order to avoid a fuss she gave up the baby for adoption and went to Ireland to become a Nanny. then she got pregnant again there, and decided, "Fuck this", and moved to Canada and gave the baby up for adoption in Ontario, and I guess eventually moved to Winnipeg with my granddad.
My Dad actually met his brother(The baby left in Scotland) last year. I saw pictures. They look pretty much exactly alike... they're barely even a few inches apart. If you weren't looking carefully you'd almost call them twins.
Eh, I don't think so. Pinkie being Pinkie, she probably has a few dozen permutations of the possible connection for explanation purposes.
... Lately I've been imagining the Pinkie sense is way more comprehensive than Pinkie lets on, and she genuinely knows the future... which is how she pulls off those cartoony, semi-fourth-wall gags. she knows what's going to happen, so she has the timing planned ahead.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Oh my god. I was done. I just needed to pull logs and I could go home, and then the damn thing had a software update, wiping them all out. Why would you do this to me?
I need some Fluttershy.
Nope. At first I thought they were mistakenly playing The Lion King instead of Frozen. Though it turns out the chanting is actually Norwegian, it just sounds the same.
Also, sorry for the Hype Backlash.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Syd: Thanks.
@Kegisak: Yeah, family history is always interesting. My family ended up coming to America in the mid 1800's. They were originally from Austria, but moved to Russia to avoid religious persecution. Then eventually that feel through as well, and they ended up crossing the pond and settling in the midwest, dead smack in the middle of nowhere. It's kinda weird because I'm like the only real city guy in my family. Aside from a few cousins who live in Wichita, but I'm not sure that counts.
Reaction Image RepositoryEven if they are related it would have to be pretty distantly, so the grossness is pretty minimal. Which is good, it would suck to lose one of the better mane six ship names.
Although judging by the prominence of AJ/Mac, Pinkie and AJ being closely related would probably only increase shipping.

@JT: Does Wichita not count as a city?
I dunno. Most of my family lives in Winnipeg, which being from a town of 5000 people I always thought of as a city, but Winnipeg doesn't actually have a large enough population to qualify as a city by American standards, so my perspective is a bit warped there.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Sounds like a city to me. Then again I live in a smallish town so I dunno.
... why is it that the autocorrect on Opera considers "doughnut" to not be a word, yet "smallish" is a word?
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I know Wichita is a place name because of Zombieland.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Also, the Roosevelts were 5th cousins. Once you get beyond close relations, it barely matters anyway.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Ike: For the longest time, Chrome autocorrect kept insisting that 'movie' was not a word for some reason.
Well, this discussion has been educational.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWell, in Zombieland all the characters were named after capital cities, weren't they? Or was it just they were named after where they were from originally, and that mostly happened to be capitals?
You know what, I don't even know what most State capitals are, so I wouldn't know. I know Little Rock is a capital. Is Tallahassee?
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.IIRC Tallahassee is capital of Florida.
Anyway, I'm a bit biased. To me, even Alburqurque feels more like a small town than a proper city.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI saw a bumper sticker one time: "Florida is God's waiting room."
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!@Edzepp: Mathematician's Answer, much?
@Kegisak: Technically, yes, but to a guy who lives a few miles from NYC it doesn't seem that big.

I'm a bit bored, just randomly browsing Tv Tropes to kill time.
