A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

They were alive enough to think, talk, and react to situations. What they didn't have was experience. They appear to have been born with an approximation of Pinkie's personality, but none of her knowledge apart from language skills.
They remind me a lot of Replicas, actually.
I have a message from another time...Oh wow, that one was from ages ago.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayNo, they seemed to have plenty of ideas on how to get rid of them, it was just Twi's idea they liked the best and tried first. And never explained why they all did a 180 on the position of keeping them. Explained how the hell these things that could render the entire orchard barren would be satisfied with just staying in that one little part. Or, why losing a large chunk of the orchard, and taking the risk of them spreading and taking out the rest was worth having them around.
Obviously their guano is a great fertilizer. Another fact is that some animals are vital to the propagation of plants by eating their fruit.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! And yet they displayed an ability to learn, if not the patience for it.
I don't see a reason to assume that they're just constructs, and thus okay to wipe out (or return to being a mindless collection of magic, which is really not that different from killing them) except as a way to make the ending less horrific.
And if that's the case, more power to ya. It is perhaps my experience with Tales of the Abyss that makes me think of them more like infants in all but body.

I have a message from another time...There are several Real Life trees whose seeds require the heat from a forest fire in order to germinate. Apple seeds benefitting from the acids or other chemicals in bat saliva is downright tame in comparison.
@Enlong: they're pretty much token creatures imprinted as copies of Pinkies, and most of them second- or third-hand copy tokens, to use MTG parlence. Tokens aren't really people, even less so than summoned creature constructs.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Because even basic video game AI's can learn if they have the proper algorithms in place, doesn't mean they are sentient, and we saw no sign that they were in fact sentient.
Yes, in nature, the vampire bats have a good, strong, and really well placed role. They make perfect sense in that regard. But this isn't a natural forest or anything, it's an orchard, and they don't need them to plant seeds, as they can do that themselves. Fluttershy said it was something about them not eating the seeds that made things grow, not about them being around. But nothing on what. Again the first time she was talking about it, it seemed to me all she was saying that by not eating the seeds and spitting them out, more trees would grow. not that the bats did anything special simply that, there would be more seeds scattered around and so more trees growing. Something AJ could do anytime she wanted on her own.
And even then don't see how this would lead to 'more cider' since the bottleneck for cider was never the amount of apples available to turn into cider, or even how much cider per apple, but rather the labor required to turn the apples into cider.
They didn't have to say it. It's pretty clear what happened.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIt's just weird, seeing Sera and I on completely opposite sides of the argument compared to Daring Don't.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayNot really. Again it wasn't a result of the spell itself. the spell worked fine and there was never anything said about it needing to transfer, anything about any hitches with the spell itself. It was only the spells interaction with The Stare that caused issues. So since this wasn't the spell that had an issue, there's no reason undoing the side effect would undo the spell completely.
Alright, the spell purged the bats of the vampireness. That part worked fine. And clearly, it didn't NEED to send it anywhere. So that worked and if there didn't need to be something to send it to, then as far as the bats are concerned, it's gone and that's that. However, The Stare caused a goof, and instead of dissipating like it would on it's own, the vamp-ness got absorbed by Fluttershy. Again this wasn't an aspect of the spell itself, but of the spell and Stare interacting. All Twi did far as I could see was purge the vampireness out of Fluttershy, so it would dissipate into nothing like it was meant to the first time.

How would you classify Tot A Replicas?

I have a message from another time...no idea about tales, bu I see them in terms of Star Trek as just your basic holograms. Seem smart, alive, but it's only really complex programs and reaction algorithms making it appear that way, without them actually being in anyway sentient. (Again this is the basic ones, not the more advanced, ataully sentient ones like Moriarty and The Doctor.) Just replace science with magic.
I have a sneaking suspicion that I could continue arguing with you just by quoting your earlier posts.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

I don't recall them saying that reversing Flutterbat would effect the regular bats. But even if that's true, they still could have found some way to chase them off the farm.
