A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Sup guys, back from buying and wrapping more gifts.

On the topic of "trendy" Co D-esque AAA-titles, I get the feeling that the indie gaming industry might also be feeling it as well. Either that or I'm personally getting tired of hearing Minecraft and Angry Birds all the time. tongue

Mindcraft is probably the most mainstream indie game out there, if such a thing even exists.

Angry Birds is the most mainstream indie game, but Minecraft comes close second.

But what separates indie games from mainstream, is that the entire market doesn't revolve around those two, and they aren't shallow cash grabs themselves either.

@Lumious You have no idea how much merch those two get in a day. I see pickaxes for Minecraft, cosplayers, colouring books for Angry Birds it's madness quite frankly.

@Star

Merch doesn't automatically mean shallow cash grab. A cash grab forgets about quality for the sake of quickly sell itself to the gullable.

@Lumious True merch doesn't always mean instant grab. But with something like Minecraft and Angry Birds anything is possible.

Well so far it hasn't hindered the quality of the game itself in any way.

The merch itself is technically unrelated to the game. that is, they were created by different companies than created the game.

@Lumious It doesn't stop people from buying the stuff though. So much time and patience needed to play Minecraft so many things in that game, so little time.

A cash grab for instance, would be Cars II where it was exclusively created to sell toys after it's merchandise met with better sales than expected.
