A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

What, like Colinispower?
What about in the ones you do read?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Seraphem: Actually it really isn't as solid as you think. It's a reason why there are going to be no new changelings infiltrating Canterlot after a certain point, it is not really solid reason why there is only one infiltrator except that the author decided so that they only wanted to have one.
Either way, I think the "what ifs" weighed against what we got is more significant then you think, and that's all.
@Psi 001: Well at least Gilda had a genuine friendship with Rainbow Dash, and her her breaking it off seemed to really effect her. Not that anything came of it though.

Labeling ANYONE in MLP as a Complete Monster is a huge stretch. But people love to overuse tropes. I still remember one former troper who kept insisting that the show needs to have a Complete Monster.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI think Hate Sink is the best term, I can maybe see how it can be linked to a Complete Monster since similarly such characters aren't designed to be remotely sympathetic and only earn the contempt of the audience. A Hate Sink is basically a more petty variation.
That and their actions are so petty. It's hard to take them seriously.
What AB sees in DT, I will never know.

Hate Sink is probably the term to go for here. The character is obviously designed to be as unlikeable as possible. Which bizarrely almost reverses the effect for me, because they're so one-dimensional about it that I can't really view them as a character.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon go out of their way to be bitches.
I'm not really sure why.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I think for me, it's more that when people hate a character to absurd degrees, I feel sorry for them and start liking them in sympathy. That's already happened for Lightning Dust. And it's close to happening with Diamond Tiara.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Ace: That cape image reminds me; I think my favorite part of the episode was Rarity thinking that everyone with a cape has superpowers. Oh silly Rarity, superheroes do not work that way at all.
"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."Well for Tinker's that's often true. For the rest, their are various reasons. Part of it is to protect secret identities, but you also want to build a cape persona so you can sell merchandise as a hero and intimidate rivals as a villian.

I can think of three good reasons.

Before Flight I might agree, but going THAT far, hitting THAT low, yeah that's enough to push them into the irredeemable category for some people.
