A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

What Clever said is the point I'm trying to make. She thought that the way she and her kind used love was the ONLY way that it could give you power. That it wasn't able to be used like in the normal Power of Love way. Also as Enlong said. She's a thief, she doesn't truly understand what she is stealing beyond how it effects her, she doesn't care enough about others to even consider they might have another use for it.
Also, no she didn't do crap to "disable" the shield spell or touch it in anyway. All she did was mentally dominate Shiny to the point he simply stopped reinforcing it, then let her minions bash it till it's power gave out and it failed. Her issue had nothing to do with the shield spell either. But not realizing Cadnace and his love for each other could repower him, and super charge his spell, since neither of them were changelings, so to her, weren't able to use love as a power source like she could. his 'love' was never fueling the shield, it was just his normal magic. the love draining was separate and just something she did to give her more power, while taking over his mind to the point he stopped using the spell and her minions could overpower it.

Yeah, Chrysalis didn't really disable the spell, she just brainwashed him so that he wouldn't be able to maintain it effectively, so that when the attack rolled around, it collapsed.
Alternately, here's my theory: Chrysalis got caught off guard specifically because she was already feeding off of the love. She probably figured that they wouldn't be able to attack her using that power because she was already absorbing it. She probably let Cadance and Shining get together because "they can't do crap now, I'm eating their love; if they try to summon more I'll just eat that too" and didn't realize that they would be able to harness it themselves without her being able to absorb the energy.
To use the weapons analogy, she doesn't think the wave motion gun will work because she's been sapping the power source and gets caught off guard when they manage to generate enough energy to fire it anyway.
As for this:
I'm not quite sure that's the case. Her primary objective was to break the shield, but as Seraphem pointed out, she doesn't have to know how the spell works to do that. She just has to be able to brainwash SA into not maintaining the spell properly. It's like rendering a tank inoperable by preventing a mechanic from maintaining it; you don't have to know how it works. The other thing is that it's never clear that she's draining Shining's love. If anything she's draining the love from Cadance; why else would she imprison her near Canterlot rather than killing her or taking her somewhere else?

Reaction Image Repositorytonight on the Pony Thread: Queen Chrysalis.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Read Thrown Abroad, and it's sequel My Little Changeling: Friendship is Weird. Pretty damn great, hilarious and well done fics about a changeling that gets tossed out of the hive, and has to learn to live among ponies.
He ends up learning that they can 'feed' freely off ponies without hurting them, if the love he takes is what freely given to him because of friendship. Not just stealing romantic love. And evetaully teaches other changeling to do this, causing many of them to abandon Crysy and prefer living openly among ponies as equals, rather then slinking along and stealing from them like thieves.
Unless there's another hive, I don't think there are any changelings that aren't loyal to Chrysalis.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/My headcanon is that the changeling army had to disguise themselves and move as individuals and small groups in order to move into place. There's no way they could have crossed open country without doing that. But they had to stop and set up a base camp somewhere outside of Canterlot, because the guards would caught on to the huge influx of ponies if they'd tried to bring the entire army into the city.

@Seraphem: Well sure we can say that because off-screen almost anything can happen. What I mean is that the shapeshifting aspect she have been utilized more and better throughout the story, other then being a device that allowed for the twist and what was ultimately a trailer fake out.
Only in the comics.
