A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

On a different topic, I was wondering if pony society has holidays for the beginning of seasons other than just spring. We know they have Winter Wrap-Up for the winter to spring transition, but what about the other seasons? Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, so that's what made me think of it. Would any of the ponies visiting this thread know of any other holidays? Gilda, do griffons also have seasonal holidays like the ponies do, or do you have different holidays and cultural celebrations?

@ Rainbow: Yeah, we do. We celebrate most of the pony holidays, because hey, national holidays and all that. Who's gonna pass up a chance to get hammered in a lot of different ways? But we got our own too. Hearth's Warming is kind of a pony thing because, well you probably already know the story. No griffons in that tale. We were still around though, and our version of the holiday has a lot more re-enactments of the battles we had against the windigos. Ice jousting is my favorite.
no but I play one on TV.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIce jousting? Is that where giant icicles are used instead of metal or wooden swords, or is it something different?
I would presume that the ponies would have rituals for creating each season, and I would be curious to see more of them on the show itself, or to come back to holidays that have already been introduced but using new stories.
Yeah, apparently way back when, General Shrikefeather got together every last griffon big enough to carry a weapon in order to push the windigos out of Equestria. Problem was, they didn't have enough weapons to go around, until somebody got the bright idea to use the ice. You might only get one good hit with an icicle before it breaks, but when it's as long as your body it's still gonna do some damage. Then the ponies up and melted everything before we could go into battle. Some of the teenagers were so disappointed they never got to fight that as soon as the next winter came around they decided "screw it" and had at each other. It's been a tradition ever since.
Ice basketball is a difficult sport.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!You wouldn't count on ice being able to hold an edge, but an icicle can still impale you something fierce.
The bad part is that it's frickin' cold until it melts, and when it does, there's nothing left to stop you from bleeding like crazy.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...I have about 250 words done, so I'm a fourth of the way there. (right?)
I'll get the rest done by monday afternoon.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/It doesn't have to be 1000 words. Mine was only 500 something IIRC.
Incidently, I've never seen an icicle with a sharp edge. I don't think they naturally form that way. But I suppose if a big enough one falls on you it could still hurt.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIce jousting sounds awesome. And yeah, icicles are rarely sharp. The danger comes almost entirely from weight; a 20 pound chunk of ice can do a lot of damage.
