A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

@ Syd: *narrows eyes* Was that a racist joke?

@ Ivyleague: Okay, I'll admit, that's a bit impressive. Keepign a cockatrice in camp really isn't the best idea in the world though.

@story: No, I didn't. What about North Dakota?

The problem is that there's nothing in North Dakota.

@ Ivy: So, you have a stoned hydra in your museum?

@ Gilda: Nope, not at all. I'd never do a thing like that.

Approximately how much do you weigh, do you think?

That's why I'm wearing sunglasses*

. Cockatrice petrification is based on eye contact, and tinted lenses disrupt the wavelength. As long as we keep him on a leash and always remember our shades outside of our tents, we're golden.

^ No, we have a cockatrice that stones other things that try to turn our camp into a smorgasbord.

Also, didn't you make that joke the last time I mentioned Songbreeze trying to prove her theory about overcoming cockatrice stares through sheer willpower?

I knew I'd make that mistake, even after I told myself not to. Edited.

What about North Dakota?

I read that in the oil and gas towns there's a big labor shortage so they'll hire pretty much anyone. Some truck drivers make over 100k a year. Statewide unemployment is 2.3%. The problem of course is that there's a big shortage of housing too.

Okay, having backtracked to fine story's post about North Dakota, that's probably not a realistic option for me, even if the midwest wasn't entirely unappealing for several other reasons. One of them being that having lived in western Washington my whole life, being out in the plain states gives me whatever the opposite of claustrophobia is.

The horizon's too damn far away....

Anyway, I need to get rolling to the gym, and I think Ivyleague's connection just blipped out on him again, so I'll be around later.

@ Star: You should really try to get Birdbr...um, Gilda's name right. You don't want her to fly off with you, like Dusty did.

Then again, it could be the start of another beautiful relationship. tongue

Cockatrice petrification is based on eye contact

Don't you also get petrified by touching them (or their eggs)?

that's probably not a realistic option for me

Oh sorry. When I read about North Dakota, I figured I should mention it just in case.

@ Syd: I weigh precisely enough to punt your ass over the horizon.

@Ivyleague: Yeah, you're gonna get yourself killed. Calling it right now. Look at those things, they're not strapped to your head or anything. They don't even cover your eyes all the way! If you can look around the glasses for a picture, you sure as hell can get an accidental eyeful of some prime cockatrice glare. Get some goggles you suicidal loony!

@ Starscream: Eh, not so good. The guys who ran the last expedition are badmouthing my guiding expertise when it was their fault for not listening when I told them that it's a bad idea to go wading through leech-infested, magically tainted ponds in the middle of the Everfree Forest. I don't even get credit for dragging their sorry husks of flesh back to the hospital. No, they gotta blame me for not bringing back their gear too.

@Gilda: Eh, we've had him around for months, and the only one of us to have been petrified so far was Song, due to her aforementioned theory about willpower.

I do wish she'd knock that off, though. The nice zebra up the hiking trail has started bottling our Soft potions in six packs.

@Wryte: Yeah, I know what you mean. I grew up in the city, so whenever I visit my relatives in Kansas it always feels a bit odd. I'd probably be fine living in one of the cities, like Wichita or Omaha, but living in one of the small towns would be weird. Everything closes early, and it's like the town shuts down after like 9. I like having people around.
