A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I'd say Rarity has an equivalent to high school grad status. Living in a lower class small town like Ponyville, she couldn't afford any fashion corses, but she'd spend all her time studying magazines and trends and learned her way around with a combination of trial and error, memorization of different styles, and sheer determination to get her shop off the ground from small beginnings.
Oh, I figured she would have taken some buisness or acounting classes.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayBesides, I think they're all meant to be teenage or young adult ponies, with not enough time to get an actual degree. Twi was the closest though, until the whole "Princess" thing probably derailed it.
"Princess" is one helluva degree.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out! It's kinda hard to say given that we have no clue how old anypony is or what the educational system in Equestria is like.
@Mio: True, though her insistence that she didn't get kicked out it might just be the other guys twisting the truth to belittle her. We don't really know enough about her departure to know whether she got kicked out, flunked, or decided to leave for some other reason. All we know is that Dumb Bell made a joke about her getting kicked out, and she denied it.
Reaction Image RepositorySomething tells me Twilight would have multiple degrees - like, even after moving to Ponyville she continued taking by-mail courses in her free time, and picked up a couple more. It would explain why someone with a theoretically pretty defined field has such a varied knowledge.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. She dropped out of school to start a buisness.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@J Teeth: While I believe her when she says she wasn't kicked out she didn't really fight Dumb Bell's statements about her not being able to deal with the schools disciplinary code. I think there is a grain truth in that she was probably on her last chances with the school and just decided that she had had enough of it and left.
I personally see the cast as being roughly college age, in the 20-25 age bracket. If they were supposed to be teenager equivalents, I seriously doubt that they'd have made them all job-holding adults. The only one who doesn't have many hallmarks of being an adult is Pinkie, but she can easily be considered an Adult Child.
I could see that. My personal take on it is that she was doing fine in the practical curriculum, but was having issues with the book learning part and probably doing stuff like slacking off, skipping class, and things like that. She must have been doing decently in some parts though, or else she wouldn't have done a good enough job in Ponyville to be trusted with doing the tornado thing.
@Kegisak: Or she just reads a lot, given that she lives in a library. One doesn't have to be actively studying for a degree to take interest in a subject.
@Dark: My guess is that there probably just aren't enough of them to be feasible. Spike is the only baby dragon we've seen in the setting, so while they might work in a very limited capacity, it isn't very helpful for wide use.

Reaction Image RepositoryWell she's probably tapped into whatever academic exchange system Equestria has, even if it's just discussions in coffeeshops.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Playi read that as "Behead Celestia."
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Bedhead Celestia.
I read this as "Beheaded Celestia". Eww.
@ CDRW: I saw where you were asking about the name of Celestia's assistant (the one who looks like Sarah Palin). The Celestia micro has 'Tia address her as "Raven".
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Behead Celestia.
OH, that happened once. It was good fun, all the rolling. Though admittedly everypony got really uncomfortable when she put her head back on.

...backwards.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!so does that mean that Luna blew up her sister in "Sleepless in Ponyville"?
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. It's all fun and games until somepony gets beheaded. Or blown up. Then it's kinda yucky.

@Kegisak: My guess is that she has a sort of vocational tech certification. She'd be the equivalent of a licensed mechanic; certified as being a professional in her given field of practice, but not necessarily having anything to do with her overall education level. She's probably the equivalent of a high school graduate who goes straight into a vocational internship rather than college. I.e. she dropped out of flight school because she got a job offer and decided to take it.
