A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

@Marcen Next time ya do something like that I'll send you to Aperture Science and have GLADOS torment you for all eternity.
@Story Well watch it when ya can, Story, it's probably one of the best that Disney have come up with in recent years and by the way I'm now leaning towards seeing Frozen and Anchorman 2 than The Hobbit 2 to be honest.

"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus Prime@Star You'll send GLADOS...(blushes) Does anypony else have something I can do to go even more crazy? You're not looking forward the The Hobbit sequel, huh? 1st one was disappointing?

https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qI think Anchorman is the kind of movie you catch on DVD some time if you're bored. I mean the first one was funny (haven't seen the second), but it's not THAT amazing.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Marcen And by TORMENT I mean insult you while your in a test chamber trying to figure what to do. And no I liked the first Hobbit movie but to be honest it had it's problems so really not sure if I should go for the next one even though I DID kinda wanted to see it in the first place.
@Story So Frozen then?
"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus Prime@Star I'll be honest...I wasn't a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings movies. I liked them fine. When the Hobbit came out, people complained about the frame rate. Really, that's the main problem people had with it.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615q@Star Was it because everything was a bit too simplified?
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qIf you really want to torment people in Portal, make them do some of the fanmade maps. Those things are ridiculous. I'd swear they were impossible if I didn't know better.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOn the topic of christmas presents, it seems I'm one of the few of us who's looking forward to giving AND getting some this year. My parents are going to help me pay for an iPhone, which is great because I've been needing a new phone for a while now AND it means I can get the new iOS. I'm also hoping for some 3DS games and a plushie. Or if I'm really lucky, some of the new MLP cards.
On the other hand, I'm gonna be giving my family some nice stuff this year. Mom is getting a hot/cold pack (either freeze it or put it in the microwave depending on what you want), my sister is getting my Naruto manga collection and maybe a journal, my dad is getting an old model submarine (he was in the Navy so he likes that sort of thing), and my brother... sadly I don't know what to get him. He doesn't WANT much besides Skyrim, which makes this a pain since his BIRTHDAY is on christmas too.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Meta: You should've thrown in a few issues of The Punisher or maybe a volume of Berserk if you really wanted to mess with them.
@Marcen: I think it's more that the hobbit movies add a lot of material that wasn't in the original book. The LOTR movies were largely Adaptation Distillation, they compressed the material and trimmed out a lot of the unnecessary stuff from the books. Whereas the Hobbit is basically a book that's ripe for making one long movie (or maybe two shorter ones), and stretching it into three epic-length things by adding a bunch of stuff that wasn't originally present. A lot of people don't like that it's being padded so much.
I liked the first Hobbit movie, but it really lacked the focus that the LOTR trilogy had.

Reaction Image RepositoryThere's probably Portal themed skins out there.
And yeah, The Hobbit comes across has half an adapation of the LOTR backstory stuff rather than the acutal book.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI picked up the first two trade paperbacks from a local store just this week. I also bought Maus while I was there. Hopefully, I confused the cashier.
You almost certainly haven't. I've regularly bought the MLP comics in tandem with the likes of Hellboy, Sandman, Ex Machina, The Goon, etc., and the owner never batted an eye. I get the feeling in that kind of career you get used to people with unexpected taste combinations.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. They should've called it The Hobbit: The Shipping of Legolas.

And that is what fanfiction is for.

https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qBesides, you're probably not the first brony. Heck, it's possible the owner might be a brony.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayReally it just comes off as a poor man's substitute for a proper Silmarillion adaptation, because they're clearly trying to fit in as much material as they can from it that could still fit in the Hobbit framework they've used to stretch things out.
As for the original trilogy, the first film is a straight up Adaptation Distillation of the first book. The second and third were clearly trying for a pragmatic approach, but they change so much that it loses a lot of the power of the books. You can argue they've dropped some of the book fluff, but in tern they padded things out that were stretched or just weren't present in the books, the Return of the King in particular. Most jarring are the changing of the last battle where they used the army of spirits rather than just letting them go, and greatly reducing the Roherum's heroism and impact, and dropping the Shire ending altogether, which gave Frodo an understated but moving transition as he realizes the Shire just isn't where he belongs, no matter how hard he tries and the war's wounds he can't shake off.

I'm sure I can find another way to watch it eventually.
