A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I've only seen The Hobbit, but given what I've gathered from talking to others who have also seen it, I think I have a way to make a decision: the bigger a fan you are of The Hobbit, the book, the more you should go see Frozen.

Reaction Image RepositoryOh man, you're missing out. Going to the movies is awesome. It's a much better experience than watching them at home. I seem to be in the minority in that nobody at the theater I go to ever has atrocious manners, though. Nobody's ever talking or texting during the show.

@Crimson: After the ritual is complete, the younge pony is impregnated, as can be seen by the presence of a 'cutie mark'. The young pony then begins the next stage in growth, becoming larger in size. Eventually it too will seek out a first-stage pony with which to mate, and after doing so it will die and spawn it's offspring.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I've very rarely encountered people who are rude with their cell phones (I think out of all the years I've gone, maybe one cell phone rang and I've seen no one texting). Seems every fourth movie or so we do somehow end up with people directly adjacent to us who can't resist making loud, useless commentary, though.

That and I'm too cheap; I'm not going to pay ten bucks to have kids throw candy at my head when I can borrow the bluray a few months later. I do occasionally go to the movies with friends and whatnot, but it's not something I'd do on a regular basis. And honestly, I tend to not notice that much of a difference between watching in a theater and watching at home, at least now that I have a reasonably-sized HD tv.
There's also the matter of convenience; going to a movie basically bites a 3-4 hour chunk out of my schedule, and a lot of the time I'd rather use that time for something else.

Reaction Image RepositoryOkay. The surgery is over, and mom is okay. Now she's resting in the recovery room for an hour or so.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Torrenting a bluray on my connection would take forever. Not to mention that connecting my computer to the TV is a huge pain.
Glad to hear it.

Reaction Image RepositoryWhen I went to see Frozen yesterday it wsa only $5. It helps if you go to the right theaters and do mantinee showings.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, I work when those are going. That's why they're cheap; most people can't get to them anyway.
Reaction Image Repository@JT: I wonder how much of my experience is because I always sit in the back of the theater. Nobody can throw candy at you when you're in the last row, and noisy people tend to sit towards the front anyway. It does make it so you can see every time somebody pulls out their cell phone, but that rarely happens once the show has started. Anyway, I get those objections, and the time and money ones are particularly true. I just kind of ignore them though, because for me, going out to see a movie is and Event. You plan your evening around it and treat it as special. Basically, if I've got enough time to watch a movie, my schedule isn't so packed that I can't spare the extra time it takes to go to the theater.
Glad to hear it went so well, Ike.

@Ike: Good to hear.
I think the last time I went to a theater was to see a live Riff-Trax of Starship Troopers.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkWait, they do those live?
While we're on the topic. When I was able to watch the screen, I'd have to sit in the very front row. It was cool that I could get everything onscreen, but the speakers were usually painful to my ears as I'm a bit sensitive in that regard.

I've had the opposite experience. I tend to sit near the front-middle of a theatre(the two I frequent are set up in such a way that there are two sets of seats, on going up and one going into a pit below, and the bottom of the upwards set is built below the feet of the next highest row, for whatever reason), and I've had no problems.
Of course that may be a cultural thing. Public courtesy being so big in Canada, and Montreal in particular valuing arts and entertainment as much as it does.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@CDRW: Honestly, the whole "event" aspect of it is probably when I don't bother very often; I very much prefer to have my schedule be a bit more flexible and using up such a big chunk of it all at once throws off everything else. Hence, I only bother with it when it's a special occasion, like if friends are in town or it's my birthday or something. Basically, if I have that much time to kill, I'm not going to waste it all on one thing when I could use it to do other stuff I enjoy just as much.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm in the US and I can't recall ever seeing a disruptive audience.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

I've never actually seen The Rescuers. What's it like, besides being non musical?
