@NES Glad to hear, honestly I'm glad I'm going to be breaking up from college cuz that means I won't have to go there until the start of January so that's good.

and easily one of the darkest films in the Disney canon with a guy trying to commit suicide

I don't think it's considered part of the Disney Animated Canon

I'll be disappointed if Rarity doesn't sing in "Marshmallow in Manehattan".

Oh speaking of Disney Canon, I just came across this. It's amazing how much more complex the later 2d films from the earlier ones. They have a lot more lighting effects, moving particles, etc. I guess that's the wonders of technology. But I never noticed until I saw the early and later films put side by side.

I don't think it's considered part of the Disney Animated Canon

It's not, but even counting every film Disney's been involved with in some form, it's still up there. The only Disney film that kills more people onscreen is Pirates Of The Caribbean.

I really wanna rewatch The Incredibles after I finish watching The Birds all the way through. Hitchcock really knew how to shoot a film with those landscape shots.

Really? Disney's been involved in an awful lot of movies. I find that hard to beleive.

@Story Well to be fair, Pixar is technically a part of Disney though.

Looks like Disney distributed Iron Man 3. I think that qualifies as darker than The Incredibles.

@Story Even so it's still a pretty dark film even by pixar's standards.

Iron Man 3 is Incredibles. A once-admirer of the hero becomes the arch-enemy after his idol was kind of a dick to him.

Even if there is a vague similarity in the plot, the tones are completely different. Among other things, Iron Man 3 is PG-13 while The Incredibles is PG.

[up] Eh. I was mostly joking. Beyond that there aren't many similarities anyway. Though how is Iron Man 3 darker?

Iron Man 3 is way more realistic in how it portrays the events. The Incredibles didn't have terrorists, suicide bombers, or assassination attempts. It had deaths, yeah, but they were all offscreen and in general the feel was much more cartoony.

Well, it's a family film after all. You can only go so far.

Today I'm rewatching Treasure Planet. Which could have been renamed Rule of Cool: the Movie and no one would have noticed.

In terms of space opera, it's really the purest example of the genre I can think of in recent years.

[up][up] I haven't felt like it was darker when watching it. I guess here it isn't a matter of which film has more dark, but which did the dark better.
