A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I remember when I was a kid my mom used to tape a ton of stuff on VHS including lots of Ninja Turtles and Captain N & The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.
@Star Ah, the good old days. If there was a place, not on the Internet, that had nothing but VHS movies that had from black and movies to 2003, I would be there almost every day talking to people and buying movies from there. DV Ds are fine but we got the good old days of VHS! The kids will never know.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qI watched The Little Mermaid, Anastasia and Who Framed Roger Rabbit endlessly as a kid. The latter gave me nightmare and half the jokes flew over my head, but I liked it regardless.
I also remember being fascinated by the orange video tapes Nickelodeon used to produce.
Oh, and in honor of the Christmas season and Minty being in the thread.
I for one welcome our new sock-giving overlord.

It’s not the Fluttershy has any special resistance to mind games. It’s that Discord simply did not understand how FS thinks, so he picked entirely the wrong tactic for his game. When that tactic didn’t work on the first or second try, he threw a hissy fit and brute-forced it with magic.
In contrast, Iron Will had established himself as someone trying to help Fluttershy, so she was more inclined to trust him than she ever was towards Discord. And Iron Will’s advice wasn’t inherently bad, in the same way that fire isn’t inherently bad.
As I said above, Fluttershy was never a paragon of unimpeachable niceness. She was prone to unkind thoughts, but she never acted on them, for a number of reasons. One of those reasons was that she was afraid of the possible consequences of asserting herself. Then along came Iron Will, who taught Fluttershy that asserting herself wasn’t something to be afraid of—in fact, it was totally awesome! In one swift motion, this knocked away one of the major support beams of Fluttershy’s repression. The anger that she’d been bottling up for her entire life came rushing out—even those mean thoughts about her friends that she never would have uttered if she were sober.
Of course, her friend’s tearful reactions snapped Fluttershy out of her rageohol bender pretty quickly. Upon realizing she had gone too far, her first reaction was to jump to the complete opposite extreme, locking herself inside her house where she couldn’t hurt another pony with her words again. Fortunately, Iron Will picked this moment to come calling for payment. Unintentionally, he was forcing Fluttershy into a confrontation that she couldn’t hide from, a problem she couldn’t solve by being a doormat. But Fluttershy’s own horror at her potential for cruelty kept her from going too far. So at that moment, by necessity, Fluttershy found how to be assertive without being a jerk.
She reconciled with Rarity and Pinkie Pie, but things can never be quite the same between Fluttershy and her friends. And I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Now everypony knows that she’s capable of resentment and cruelty. Her kindness is no longer a default state that she lacks the spine to deviate from. Instead, it’s something she consciously chooses and occasionally fights for, which makes it all the more meaningful.
@ Meta: Fluttershy could snap at any time. Her friends should sleep with one eye open.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!The old orange Nick tapes were cool, I'll admit. I had a copy of Good Burger, was one of my favorite movies and I still have a soft spot for it.
Though fast forwarding to get to the beginning of a movie was always annoying.
Also had a pile of g1 tapes from the 80s original broadcast, though I remember the quality was kinda crud.
I had Harriet The Spy on VHS. I also had a crush on Michelle Trachtenberg because of it.
Edit: Wrong actress.

At some point, I might read The Silmarillion, and I've already read quite a bit about it. But given how King Sombra is, for all intents and purposes, the pony equivalent of Sauron, you gotta wonder: Maybe there's a Bigger Bad out there who's kind of like the pony equivalent of Morgoth. Obviously that kind of character wouldn't be in the show itself {Since Morgoth was also the LOTR version of the devil, and he's also not as famous as his former 2nd in command, AKA Sauron}, but I'm surprised that there's no pony fanfics that touched on this, especially since it would make for some interesting world building. And it would be neat if Sombra worked for him at one point as even more of a Shout-Out.
And on the topic of the current conversation, I too miss VHS Tapes. Sure, they're heavily inferior to DVD's and Blu Ray's, but there's just something nostalgic about watching a movie on one of those old pieces of technology.

I had old, original series Power Rangers VHSs. *shudder*
Also, some Disney movies, but those are only slightly cringe-worthy.
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiWho could forget the "Coming home to a theater near you you" little blurb followed by a bunch of previews from Disney? It's hilarious seeing them in rewatches thinking oh that was pretty good, to why the hell did I think this was cool?
Anyway, I've got the Sonic ova, some Power Puff Girls, Rug Rats, Samurai Jack, and other assorted 90s cartoons still in decent working order. Hell, I still have a functioning Sega Genesis and a half dozen games.
I started reading the book once but didn't get very far.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThe problem is that they still do that on DVD.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

@Marcen As much as I like DV Ds and Blu-Rays I just miss a good ol' VCR and watching The Lion King on my ol' TV before I upgraded to HD when I was a kid.
