A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Most of them, true, but I can't remember anyone ever saying that MLP is about punishing success and the mane 6 barely stick together. Of course, it's a pretty stupid arugment so I'm fine with moving on.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAnd I'm gonna miss that one and Power Ponies because I'll be working Saturday morning. Stupid Christmas rush. They were the two I was looking forward to after the premier. :/
Well, I said I was available weekends, so that's on me. /shrug

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkFor me I've only two episodes and caught Castle Mania but that'll depend on whether or not I'll be doing anything on the weekend and if I'm out or something I'll probably miss the episode and watch it on You Tube later.
"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus PrimeYeah, I've never heard of the "punishing success" thing either, and honestly, I think that extrapolating it to be the message of the show based on two episodes (out of over sixty) is overstating it. Especially since both of those cases rely on taking a certain interpretation of the episode.
As for Boast Busters, saying that the cast declares war on Trixie for that reason is misleading. They're explicitly annoyed by her boastfulness and lack of actual skill backing it up. And furthermore, they keep it to themselves until RD boos, at which point it's Trixie who actively challenges them. Out of the cast, RD is the only one who's actively antagonistic towards Trixie; the others are merely annoyed by her until she angers them by humiliating RD on stage.
The short version is that the show doesn't punish success at all. It punishes being a dick about it.
Anyway, I'm really curious about how "Flight to the Finish" is going to handle Scootaloo's disability. There's potential for controversy there; if she gains the ability to fly, it could come off of with Unfortunate Implications about it. Although on the flipside, I really hope that they keep treating her the same as they have been and don't turn her into the token disabled kid.
"Power Ponies" is probably the episode I'm most looking forward to, if only because the spoilers I've seen of the villain look amazing.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, I don't think she's gonna suddenly start flying. But then again I could be wrong.
Those of you who won't be able to watch it live (or via livestream) on Saturday, you aren't alone. I've NEVER been able to watch an episode live. And, due to my volunteer job at the museum, I doubt I ever will.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Yeah, I'm hoping they go the route of her realizing that she doesn't need to be able to fly. I'm also hoping that they'll surprise us all and give her a cutie mark, but that seems unlikely.
Reaction Image RepositorySpeculation? I predict they'll manage to dodge the issue of Scootaloo's parents once again.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI predict she won't end up flying, but will win the torch bearer gig or whatever it is anyway. Possibly by the CMC putting on some sort of show together.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Mio: True, but the writers did say there would be a disability episode this season.
Reaction Image Repositoryso guys, any guesses as to which CMC member will get their cutie mark first?
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Apple Bloom is the obvious choice, but it would be interesting if they subverted it and made one of the others.

It might be a bit early to start speculating about the episode this saturday right?
