A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

It just goes to show that Spongebob's Seasonal Rot affects even other shows if they share the same writer.

Well t be fair, after time I find MMDW to be a bit less loathsome, but onl because I found on to hate even more. Putting Your Hoof Down.
And yeah let's just say, I really really would not be upset if Willaims never touched this show again.
Wonderbolts Academy was great, but then she went and fucked things up by writing Spike at Your Service. She has the same, consistent flaws in her writing style that simply do not mesh well with pony. The only eps of hers I like, are Heartswarming Eve, where her flaws were actually useful as the story was structured to counter them or actually make them makes sense in story. And Wonderbolt's Academy, which I'm still shocked was one of hers given how it was lacking those flaws, outside of a slightly overly exaggerated Pinkie.
Hearts Warming was good, though it worked because the writer took time to justify the kind of cynical characters she likes to write, so it's justified more or less. And it seems she just channeled the cynicism into Lightning Dust which again, made sense in the context of that episode. So she's a good writer, it's just in Mare Do Well she gave that trait to the entire cast with no justification.
For most people, the behavior of the Mane 6. For me, just how OOC the entire setting and feel of the episode was.
Pretty much that, there was a valid in story reason for everypony to be acting like assholes, and it was all new characters, so no need to worry about established characterization she'd end up ignoring.
Though the backstage bickering between the Mane 6 was still rather stupidly forced and reeked for her normal issues.

I liked Putting Your Hoof Down for all the wrong reasons. I really dig Jekyll/Hyde thing when it's not misused(by having the Hyde side as a painfully boring hulkish mindless monster), so I found the episode wonderfully creepy in that regard.

"Accomplshed fame is slightly getting into your friend's head? Strip them of all their rewards, completely crush their confidence, take everything they have, and then laugh in their face about it! That'll teach them to be confident or trying to do good things or be good at things, life is about misery and suffering!"

Most of Merriweather Williams MLP stuff falls under the "average" category for me, with SAYS and MMDW falling under least favorites and Wonderbolts Academy definitely being in my top ten.
Speaking of writers, what's M.A Larson up to? He's not on S4, so I assume he's working on other shows.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkIt works better if you assume other stuff happened behind the scenes.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI knew this thread goes by quite quickly but this was quite fast. Overall I don't like Putting your hoof down( One person should not have enough influence to cause Fluttershy to insult another persons almost life long job), Mysterious Mare do Well ( Was the over the top plan really needed to make sure that Dash could stop being a show off, I mean they have helped pony ville on numerous ocassions without a disguise) and Spike at your Service (We already established that Spike's greatest fear was Twilight no longer needed him and yet he is still willing to leave Twilight). These are Just the ones by Merriweather Williams I dislike, there are other episodes I am not fond of but I will get to those later.
" inset something funny here "Except it wasn't a study of Fluttershy, both her before and after bits were pushed way to extreme to really feel like it was ever actually her. She has anger issues, yeah, but tearing down her friends entire livelihoods with such utter, hateful, rotten, nastiness. That wa WAY to far to be even close to in character

I think we probably just have different criteria for judging. My least favorite episode to date has been Apple Family Reunion.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlaySlightly? She was wasting time showboating with her catch phrase and posturing in clearly dangerous situations to the point where she failed or almost failed to rescue the ponies who were in trouble.
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshi@God of Awesome: Well I guess I would agree that MMDW was memorable. Just probably not for the same reasons as you.
Honestly, the episode barely cares about the ponies in danger. It's way to hung up on Dash's boasting to actually pan out in a way that makes sense for all the characters.

I agree with Seraphem, in return of harmony her discorded self was like a bully and in putting your hoof down she tore down two of her best friends to the point they ran off crying. Highlighting this again Discorded Fluttershy was tamer than Putting Your Hoof Down Fluttershy.
" inset something funny here "Personally, I think the worst thing an episode can be is boring.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

@Luminosity: He is probably reffering to Merriweather Williams who wrote The mysterious Mare Do Well, which is considered one of the worst episodes, although in the sake of fairness so people might hate other episodes more and the hate for Mysterious Mare Do Well might have decreased over time. I still dislike Mysterious Mare Do Well though.
