A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Okay, so probably the antagonists aren't given psuedonyms. I would still argue that we don't know how widely the Daring Do series is published, since we don't even know how much international trade the Equestrian world has. And as I said, those who did find out that she was real, would they necessarily know that Daring Do is also the author of the books as well? Twilight was able to find her house, but that was by knowing the author's name. She may have looked up A.K. Yearling's address, but her address may not necessarily have been connected to information that would have revealed that she is also Daring Do the explorer. Since the information Twilight got was based off of Yearling's school information, perhaps that information was from before Yearling started having her explorations in the guise of Daring Do? To use a a real-life comparison, someone who knows my real name could look up my school information if they knew where I went to college, but they wouldn't necessarily be able to connect it to this "Rainbow" account here unless they got into the TV tropes system (and the pony world doesn't have computers and thus doesn't have hackers). Although in my case, I don't write stories about "Rainbow" doing things that I did, so that may not be the best comparison.

I guess what I'm basically saying is that with the level of communications and travel technology that has been portrayed on the show, it doesn't seem that strange to me that most ponies wouldn't know that Daring Do = A. K. Yearling, even if they knew that the Daring Do books were based off things that actually happened somewhere.

@Orion Sweet. How much do they cost anyway?

@Whathisgame Gold coins, silver coins whatever. There practically coins from the Super Mario series, except for maybe the silver ones they could easily be nickels and quarters.

Since the Daring Do discussion made me think about the level of transportation technology the ponies have, one thing we do know they have is hot-air balloons, as shown in several stories, plus we also know they have trains. If there is a pony version of Indiana Jones (which is Daring Do), is there a pony version of Around The World In 80 Days? From what I remember of that book, the story was set at a time before airplanes, so the technology level would be similar to Equestria. We haven't seen much sea travel in the series itself, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did have some form of boats that are large enough to carry lots of ponies to overseas places.

Edit: Looks like I was a victim of The Weird Al Effect there. I looked at the trope page and it says that the original book did not have Phileas Fogg traveling by hot-air balloon. Oops.

I at least wouldn't be surprised if someone made a fanfic that ponified Phileas Fogg and the other characters in that story. Twilight might make a good equivalent of him, given how much of a schedule fanatic she is, plus she would be more similar to him before she came to Ponyville, where she was more aloof from other ponies (and Spike could play the part of Jean Passepartout), even though she is certainly not as unemotional and stoic as he is so it wouldn't be an exact personality match.

That's the one thing I actually agree with. But the thing is that going by the episode, the mere fact that books were real seemed to be abig surprise.

@Rainbow. If it was a g1 ponyfication, Wind Whistler and Fizzy could fill those roles.

@Orion Considering I'm from another part of my world, the prices on books particularly hardbacks tend to vary. But for the UK they range from 12 to 20 pounds at least.

I'd say Equestria has a bit higher tech level. Train travel is much faster and cheaper than it was at the time of Around The World In 80 Days for instance.

@dark: Since those two rank amongst my favorite G1 ponies, I would love a story that starred them together like that! Although I do know that there are some canon G1 stories such as The Magic Coins and Mish Mash Melee that star both Wind Whistler and Fizzy to some degree.

If there ever is a movie about the G4 world that keeps to the pony world, having Twilight Sparkle (and probably the other members of the Mane 6 as well) go on some travels to a bunch of other places in the pony world might make for a good story. It could possibly be about her establishing diplomatic ties as a Princess, or learning about other countries so that she can be better prepared for hosting foreign guests like when the Saddle Arabians were with Celestia in Magic Duel.
