A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Well she wouldn't be doing her job if she wasn't researching the artefact that she was looking for.

similar to the elaborate and fanciful tales about Africa in the 19th century. So even if a lot of Daring's books are true, ponies might just dismiss a lot of it as fiction, which for all they know it is.

I thought about that, but A) Equestria's tech is probably early 20th century at the worst (routine long distance rail travel), and B) the area where Daring Do is is a lot closer than Africa was.

Does Equestria have television? It has cinemas(Babs Seed episode), but household avalable television?

Well it had arcade games in H&HD. But it's big on Schizo Tech in general. So early 20th century is a conservative estimate, they have some stuff that's a lot more modern.

And a lot of other stuff that's fairly old.

Who says that the fans don't know that the places or villians are real? There are plenty of books with antagonists and places based on reality. They don't know that Daring is real. They don't visit the locations because Ahizotl is real and dangerous and as far as they're concerned, Daring isn't real to look after them.

The villians don't want to admit that Daring is real because that would be admitting that thy get regularly beat by an author.

As for setting consistency, I live in a place where shacks and high class houses are basically across the street from each other. I see no problem.

[up] An author that regularly writes about their asses being kicked by her, no less. At this point they rather have the reputation of fictional villains because its less humiliating.

[up][up]Honestly, this makes a lot more sense. Fits with the Indiana Jones theme. Daring might have written the books to keep ponies away from her archaeological digs or something.

Or as a backup. Get the information out there in a way lots of ponies will learn everything they can about it. if she wrote them as real, if she tried to tell others, "Meh, not my problem". But, make it a story, get it popular novel series. And you have ponies like Twi and RD learning every single detail, knowing everything there is to know.

If the villians were real but Daring Do wasn't, that'd mean that there'd have been 800 years of heat by now.

Or that Ahuizotl got stopped by someone else, or that he didn't manage to get all the rings for some other reason. They'd probably just assume that the elements of the story existed, (Ahuizotl, the rings, the temple, etc.) but the specific sequence of events that occurred in the story simply occurred differently.

[up][up] The villains being real doesn't mean everypony must automatically assume the book depicts them 100% accurately.

To give you an example, Vlad Tepes was into impailing a lot, but I'm pretty sure he didn't transform into a bat at any point.

[down] You don't. I did :D

Do I really have to explain the problem with this logic?

Currently watching Anthology III. Why does Gene Wilder's voice fit Discord so well? I mean, seriously, I feel like if I didn't know the movie they pulled the audio from, I'd swear it was John de Lancie singing.

If the pole on Equestria Daily is any indication, this episode will be remembered as quite polarizing. not nearly much as Magical Mystery Cure or mare Do Well, but still debatable for some.

In other words, because when it came out, a lot of people thought it was absolutely terrible, for a myriad of reasons. A lot still do.
