A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

What's funny is that in the original 'Batman Beats Superman' thing, Batman doesn't actually win. It's basically considered a victory because he made Superman sweat, and proved that he wasn't infallible. He had to use a shit ton of tricks and basically lead Superman around by the nose to even stand a chance, though, and in the end he only really made it out of the fight alive because he faked his death and got Superman to leave him alone.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Luminious I agree that seeing Batman being all dark and gritty is fine and dandy and it's pretty much become the norm of what Batman is today but ya do have a point about Batman needed more variety in tone I guess. As much as I like current Batman I really think they need to tone down on the dark and gritty stuff to an extent I mean.
"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus PrimeWhat do you mean?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Syd: because Silver Age, that's why.
@story: Firefly has a bit of a history of getting canned.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@Syd It as stupid as it sounds, the Silver Age was crazy like that.
@Luminous I don't think there's a "I'm unbeatable therefore I cannot be defeated" vibe to Batman at least in my opinion I think in The Dark Knight Rises maybe he's like that but elsewhere I think he's handled just fine.

What's funny is I think you could get some interesting stuff out of Batman's own awareness of how much more powerful the rest of the Justice League is, and while not outright accepting it perhaps, still realistic and humble enough to keep his plans on if one of them goes rogue dedicated more to talking them down and getting through to them rather than outright defeating them.

@Batman: I think The Dark Knight Returns is a good example of how to do the whole "Batman beats anyone with prep time" thing right. And when anyone brings up how Batman > everyone else, I do like to point out that the same guy that can fight Superman got his ass handed to him by a luchador with steroids.
i think the whole "Batman is vulnerable/human" idea has gotten more popular in recent years; at the very least, it's stayed a theme in the various animated series where he's a focus.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.You know what I've decided I really hate? Those "Blingee" gifs. I just encountered a crapload of them while I was catching up with pony community postings on Google+. They're bucking obnoxious.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Yeah, but that's because of executive meddling, not a problem with the genre.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@spyro: that's what i get for typing too fast.
Not always. Justice League particulary puts him way above the others. I think that and later Frank Miller comics spawned the "Batman Is God" trend.

This cartoon, despite being lighter, didn't go for that easy way. Batman often needed the help of someone else, he couldn't just throw bat-something at a problem and be done, his victories more or less made sense, and he didn't just beat Superman.
Seriously, Batman. Stop just beating Superman. He's not a punching bag for any "normal" hero to feel badass.
