A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

...Twilight Velvet is sworn to secrecy? Look, maybe I didn't think this through.
If there is one thing that disappoints me a little is that they did pass up the chance to use Twilight's mom in a story. Excluding the award on the wall in the comics, the toyline had long established that Velvet likes to write adventure stories, and well the show is suppose to be Merchandise-Driven...
Still, its nothing to cry Ruined Forever at.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Unless Daring Do and AK Yearling are both fake names, I think her enemies would take notice of a bestselling book series about/by her. Heck, even if they're fake names, she's on the covers with her real appearance.
^^ I'm not calling Ruined Forever by any stretch. I liked the episode overall. I'm just saying that aspect of it didn't jive with me.

And what exactly would they gain by knowing that?
The fact that she publishes her stories is really not as glaring an issue as people make it out to be I think. It's a good source of income and plausible deniability when it comes to the public at large. And it's really not something her enemies can take advantage of.

Also real is the operative word here. She had a disguise hen we first saw her. I see daring Do and AK Yearing as akin to Superman and Clark Kent (A secret identity for civilian life)
Well maybe she's trying to prepare future generations in case she dies or is otherwise incapacitated?

^^ It doesn't matter if she's writing as Clark Kent, she's still Superman on the cover. Even if her enemies don't know she's Clark Kent, they know Superman's on the cover.
If she's trying to pass knowledge on to future generations, doesn't that sort of conflict with maintaining her secrets by having ponies believe her books are fiction?
^ I guess. It's still not a very convincing argument to me, though.
....And now I'm imagining this scene
with ponies.
Twilight Velvet: I'm confused, Yearling. You see, I've lived in Canterlot most of my life and I can't figure out how some yokel from Vanhoover is suddenly writing every hot seller in town.
A.K. Yearling: *lowers glasses* Well, you see Velvet, the truth is I'm really Daring Do in disguise and only pretend to be a novelist to hear adventures as they come and squeeze you out of the best sellers list.
Twilight Velvet: You're a sick mare, Yearling.
A.K. Yearling: You asked.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!@Wryte: I had a similar issue with the episode. I enjoyed it a lot, but something about the whole "Daring Do is real" thing just didn't quite click with me.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, I'm no seeing how this is a safe endeavor for Yearling. The crooked archeologists are gonna take notice at their rival's name being all over the place. They'll likely pick up one of the books, or read the synopsis, and realize that somehting only they and Daring Do were involved in is somehow all over this book.
And it's not hard o find the author's location, albeit a location that's hard to get to.
I think we saw the result of this. Why else was the author's home in particular ransacked?
I have a message from another time...Yeah, I'm looking forward to the superhero one. I'm curious how they're going to justify it.

And that's why she lives in such a remote area. (which Twi had to go out of her way to find) I'm 90% sure her house was only ransacked because they were after the ring, and it had nothing to do with the books. She can't bring anyone else in danger if she lives far away from them. Plus, she's capable of protecting herself. And even if Caballeron or other archeologists knew Yearling published the stories, what are they going to do? Who would believe them?

Based on previews I've seen, it's going to be something in the Secret Library of the Old Castle.
On the other hoof, it could be mutually beneficial for both parties. Villains wait until the previous book is published, just to be polite before starting their next nefarious plan. Daring gets plenty of material to work with, and villains get good advertizing from the books. She wins every time of course, but that's a given. After all, any self-respecting pulp adventure series needs it's effective villain scheming against the invincible hero.

That's why they're the stories of Daring Do and not A.K. Yearling. By presenting the stories as fictional, ponies would believe they are. Most viewers believed they were. I don't see how it's unreasonable to assume ponies would too. She only seems to adventure in remote areas of Equestria where almost nopony would be save for the tribals we see and some rare villages. Ponies are shown to be afraid of a vast number of things, so they'd barely ever go into these remote locations. Plus, most of the things she involves herself with seem to be ancient legends that not many ponies would believe in anyway. Just like all the stories about Nightmare Moon.
@Calnos. Now this is a neat idea about Twilight Velvet that I think would be neat.* animal-loving
