A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Hey guys, does the doctor from first Daring Do episode and doctor from Mage Meadowbrook debut episode qualify as Dr. Jerks? Since the first one forced Rainbow Dash out of hospital after she healed and second one said to Zecora and Fluttershy that they should deal with the Swamp Fever themselves before leaving them. What do you guys think?
But when I was in hospital as a child, the staff give me time to pack my things, compared to how Ponyville's hospital staff essentially kicked out Rainbow without considering that she will not fly back into her home, so I think they fit this trope.
I dunno, I was once ushered out of a hospital after an operation still groggy from sleep and painkillers, just barely able to stand and go to the toilet, after half an hour or so of prodding by an impatient nurse.
Sounds pretty accurate to me, in other words.
In Rainbow Dash's case, from what I remember, she wanted to stay longer to finish reading the Daring Do book, not because she was worried about not being able to fly home. The hospital is not a library, so in that case she would have been taking up a bed that another injured or sick pony could have used, and the book probably also belonged to the hospital.

Guys, can you not stray away from the topic of discussion? I asked you if these two doctors qualify as Dr. Jerk trope and I didn't get my answer.

BTW, are you a American? Because I think you getting rushed out of the hospital is related to how you Americans don't have a free healthcare compared to us Europeans
(this joke is all around the Internet
).

The Daring Do doctor was just doing his job. The swamp fever doctor didn't even try IIRC. He might qualify but it's a long time since I watched that episode so I don't know for sure. Also I don't usually add tropes or comment on what makes them relevant, I mainly just post in the forums.
Edit: Redmess clearly states he's from the Netherlands. So you're just dunking on Americans and their health care for no reason.

see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532This was just a joke. I need to remind myself that this site is not Youtube where people can post memes like that. Also, I didn't know that you are from Netherlands. Nice to know someone from Netherlands besides DeLadysigner

As for swamp fever doctor, I think he qualifies for being a Dr. Jerk since I clearly remember this episode and he indeed leaved Fluttershy and Zecora to deal with the problem themselves after examining and diagnosing the latter with Smap Fever. Even though it was terrifying, I'm glad that karma catched up to him at the end of the episode.

Yes, I think the swamp fever doctor does qualify, from what I remember. He could have at least tried to treat Zecora, unless he explained that he didn't know how to treat it and I forgot because it's been awhile.
I don't think the doctor in "Read It And Weep" counts. From what I remember, he was abrupt at worst but I don't remember him doing anything particularly bad to Rainbow Dash. I also just remembered that Ponyville has a hot air balloon service that she could have used to get home, similar to someone riding the bus or a taxi if they didn't have someone who could take them home from the hospital and they weren't well enough to drive yet. Or she could have stayed with one of her friends, too, but the point there was more that she wanted to finish the book in secret, not because she wasn't ready to leave yet in a medical sense.
I just now rewatched "Read It And Weep" and I can say that I villainized that doctor. Sure his response to Pinkie's question if Rainbow gained spider powers after her crash may sounded rude and the nurses "evicted" Rainbow against her will, but he truly doesn't fit the Dr. Jerk trope. The swamp fever doctor however, does fit it.
The cartoon ones from 1984 are just... AA Aaaa AA Ahhh!!!
Sweet Celestia those look terrifying.
I get that the toys aren't always cartoon accurate, but "baby Pinkie Pie" really takes the cake. And that one isn't even a pony!
Oh gods, some of those dolls barely have any hair on their heads... they look like they are going bald!
And then there's...
This is ew in so many ways... I hate it.
Pinkie got the same treatment... Also, this lighting is awful. Whoever made that shot should be ashamed of themselves, because that is just amateurish.
I mean, really, I expected many things, but slutted up Equestria Girls dolls... really Hasbro? Really?

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesSpeaking of things that don't look right, in the spirit of the Halloween season, I think we officially found a face that's even scarier than when the Pinkie Pie clone made a Generation 3 face

Oh yeah, I just remembered something. One of my favorite songs to play during the Halloween season. :) Here's what happens when you combine Disney (well their art style, anyway) and Hasbro. ;)
Oh yeah, that's right. Happy Anniversary to one of the best shows to ever hit the airwaves. :)
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered! My facebook status on this day in 2010, when I was a 17 year old senior in HS, was that since 10 is my favorite number, 10/10/10 was probably going to be a special day.
Hoo boy...
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

Post of the Week #3627
I've talked at length about the issue with Star Tracker and it's not relevant to this point of discussion so ignoring that and focusing on Iron Will, the biggest problem is that despite being the villain, he doesn't really do much wrong. The episode, particularly the resolution, wants his scheme to be shadier than it actually is.
For his part, Iron Will presented Twilight Velvet and Night Light with an offer of a free cabin on something that was explicitly called "Cruise of the Princesses". That was the end of his machinations. At the start of the episode, all he wanted was for Twilight and Cadance to be present.
Twilight then somehow manages to negotiate that into "Let my family enjoy the cruise and I'll be your personal work-horse," which Iron Will accepts because why wouldn't he? Twilight's basically offering herself into indentured servitude in return for her family being allowed to do the only thing Iron Will asked them to do in the first place: be present on the cruise.
Twilight's plight through the rest of the episode is heartbreaking, but cheapened by the fact that she did this to herself for no reason. All culminating in Iron Will getting a comeuppance that doesn't feel earned, followed by the most hilarious exit in the history of My Little Pony. That f*cking parachute....
The moral of the story's supposed to be about taking time to take care of yourself, basically the same moral as "A Health of Information", but I just came away with "Don't try to haggle if you don't know what you're doing."
