A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Actually, the purple colouring above the fire sort of looks not completely unlike the top of a volcano, and there is a pink above that that looks like it could be lava erupting from that volcano. Mind you I don't think that's what the artist had in mind.

The fire could be metaphorical fires of chaos but it still looks bad.
I do like Estee's interpretation of Discord, doing a deep dive into the psyche of a powerful being that is only just starting to realize other people are real.
In Estee's own version of Tirek, he was never called on to try to fight Tirek. Instead, he stood idly by, certain that Fluttershy, and the other ones, would win like they always do. And if not, he could spirit Fluttershy to safety. It was only when Fancypants yelled at him that she would resent Discord if he left anypony or any other creature behind that he was motivated to intervene. When Tirek ate Discord's magic here, Discord was completely absorbed, "my mind is my power" sort of way, possessed Tirek and tried to turn him into a 40k-style chaos spawn.
In another Estee story, Celestia hires (blackmails) an escort to help Fluttershy find a mate. It specifically pointed out that the only thing keeping Discord in check is her and she hopes that by having a child and a line of descendants after would further tie Discord down. (This turns out to be Fluttershy's idea, although she's more worried about Discord being lonely after she dies.) When Discord finds out about the general idea of "get Fluttershy an S.O.", he flies off to try to "help", bring a harem light novel to life as his advisor and secretly tormenting any would-be suitor to prove their worth. Only the best for Fluttershy.
Like all good art, it is somewhat open to interpretation, which does make for an interesting piece of art in a throne room. I do like the idea of them being metaphorical flames of chaos.
As for Discord not realizing other people are real, you can sort of see that in the main show as well, especially in how he orchestrates events around Twilight. It seems to never so much as occur to him that these ponies might have objections to him "helping" Twilight achieve her true potential in the ways he does. He also does this with the three villains at the end of the show, who he completely underestimates and misreads. They took him completely by surprise, which, lets face it, should not happen to a literal god who has absolutely no trouble spying on people on other occasions.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest times
Also somehow didn't think that 3 treacherous villains would betray him. Especially one that already played him for a tool

Hm, this whole set up could work for that too. Hero feels unappreciated, wants recognition more than actually helping people? Seems familiar.

In all seriousness, yes, Miyazaki films do get hyped far beyond what they should realistically be expected to bear up under, but in my opinion, they're still quite solid films - and, of course, beautifully hand-animated.
@Dragon: Y'know, I have been meaning to watch it. I think you'll enjoy Kara no Kyoukai, too - it's a mindfuck, that one.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWonder who that villain the earlier POTD was referring to was.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.I looked it up out of curiosity, and wow, I can't believe someone got it right.
Can you imagine Rainbow making problems? She could nuke the whole town.
Basically, people were discussing MMDW (some things never change) and one person made a comment about being surprised that RD didn't go all Lesson Zero and create her own problems, leading to this post, which the POTD was responding to.

that being said KNK is really good but it's one of those shows that's confusing as hell. if nothing else it's worth watching for the fight scenes.
110% the opposite tone of FIM though. Like, the exact opposite.

^Given that most of the ponies didn't even remember Princess Luna, I wonder how much of the actual creation of Equestria (Pinkie Pie aside) has fallen to myth or oversimplification.
There's a fic hook right there... what does Hearths' Warming Eve gloss over, unintentionally... or otherwise?

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIt's only a matter of when, not if, that we get to a POTD within a POTD within a POTD.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse. She was Syndrome-ing it.
Like, Syndrome could honestly have taken the Omnidroid if he hadn't stopped to showboat, IMO. Him stopping in his battle plan to strike a pose for the onlooking crowd was what gave the droid an opening to shoot off his remote. RBD put innocent ponies in danger doing the same shit.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

I mean, am I crazy, or is that window no longer in the episode? I swear it was in there at first.
I can't imagine why they'd censor something so innocuous, so it is probably you.
