A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Ug, of all the posts to pick for the POTD, they had to pick that one? I recall arguing against that post so much. It's such an annoying take.
Might as well repost my response, I guess
If you take away the obviously evil acts, Voldemort seems like a decent guy.
Anyway, I think it's fine to think about how episodes could have been written differently or interpreted differently, as long as you don't confuse your fanon for reality.
For example, I like to joke about Flurry Heart being a heinous dark lord and found it amusing that in "A Flurry of Emotions", you can interpret Flurry Heart as being an evil mastermind without even changing anything about the episode. But I never seriously thought that that was the intended audience reaction.
> So, all in all, I don’t think we were meant to sympathize with Twilight at all, at least, not after the first act.
See, this is the part I disagree with. As other people have mentioned, arguing for something while explicitly ignoring all evidence to the contrary does not make for a convincing argument. Now I'm sorely tempted to do a review of A Flurry of Emotions in the same style.

Yes, differing opinions must be a pain.
New subject: what was the funniest "oh, this is mean" moment you've seen on this show?
Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. It's not your fault Story gets cranky and seemingly wants to have a fight while apparently despising the fight itself. Nobody is making him respond to the bloody thing, especially when it's a POTD.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Honestly, the cake thing was pretty clever. It would take a pretty impressive amount of work to pull off, and besides that it mostly just leaves the target confused and mildly inconvenienced — and also with a cake for themselves afterwards. As Dash's pranks go in that episode, it's probably the most light-hearted.
Then she switches to hiding bricks in people's lunches and things kinda deteriorate from there.

Discord would probably make people use bricks instead of bits as currency for a prank
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, ngl![]()
Earlier on Discord was a lot more malicious than he was later made so his redemption was easier to write. He was essentially a kiddified Bill Cipher with some moments of legitimate nastiness
Yes, Rainbow Dash's pranks vary in severity from "Harmless antics" to "May legally qualify as attempted murder".
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

Post of the Day #3083
The plot COULD have been that Twilight needs to accept that people change, and that even if they don't, childhood nostalgia really colors your perception of the adults around you. And also that your former babysitter may want to treat you a little differently now that you are no longer a baby.
On top of that, Cadance was running what must be the most stressful wedding someone could possibly get (a royal wedding is about as high stakes an event as you can get in a monarchy), and to all appearances, she has NO staff to organize it, so its all on her shoulders. Honestly, I can't blame anyone for going a bit bridezilla under that sort of pressure.
