A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I remember hearing good things about the show, and specifically, I came across an article
answering the question, "which DC character would have which Element of Harmony?" The highlight for me was "It might seem like a stretch to link My Little Pony to Hellblazer, given that one is a strange, often horrifying look at a world of constant betrayal, strange magic and a world constantly teetering on the brink of annihilation, while the other is about John Constantine, but I stand by it." After that I decided to give the show a try and watched the most recent episode at the time "Pinkie Sense." It was good enough to convince me to watch all the other episodes. Before actually sitting down to watch the show, I had assumed the episodes we 11-minutes long, and was surprised to see they were actually 22 minutes long.
@storyyeller: From what I know about dog behavior and communication, they would probably more think it's rude when humans stare directly into the eyes of strange dogs, since they see that as a threatening gesture. Given what they can smell about each other's hormones when they sniff each other's butts, I wouldn't be surprised if they could smell if another dog has had puppies before or not, even if the former mom has been spayed. (I'm not sure if they can, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could.)
As for how I got into the current G4 MLP, I was actually uncertain about it at first. This was mainly because I was concerned that it would portray being smart as a bad thing because of the premise that Twilight needs to "stop reading books and go make more friends", although once I started watching it I found that wasn't necessarily the case. I started watching it during the gap between the 1st and 2nd seasons, and the first episode I watched was Applebuck Season because it seemed like it would be the most interesting/enjoyable to me, which it was (and it's still one of my top favorite season 1 episodes).

I'm 27 and I got into the series literally the day of my high school graduation back in 2011. Found out about it because I was a part of a Twilight (The book series not the pony.) hate forum at the time and everyone was using screenshots from the show as part of their bios at the time. Got curious about where they were from and after seeing people mention that the show was good, actually, I decided to give it a shot since I wasn't really doing anything special for my graduation. Ended up watching all of season one thanks to a Youtube playlist that had every episode in order in like, four days max maybe and waited with everyone else for season two. Been here ever sense.

Not gonna disclose my age, because I don't understand why people would go ahead and do that on the internet (yeah, I'm an "old man" that doesn't understand the kids using the internet these days).
As for the show, I'm one of the original bronies. I was there in the legendary thread at /co/ where the fandom started, and stuck with it until the end (mostly, I actually took a legthy hiatus after season 3 finished due to personal reasons and got back on board and worked my way back during season 7).
This show and fandom will always be special in my heart.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI was in the college when the show first came out and started following it in the spring of 2011 near the end of season 1. At that time, references to MLP were popping up everywhere among my demographic, both online (MLP avatars were everywhere on Tv Tropes for a while) and in real life (my videogame club showed the PMV Skyrim trailer), so I decided to check it out to see what the fuss was about.
Ironically, the first time I decided to check it out, I accidentally watched an episode of G3 instead. It's a good thing I decided to give it another shot...

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYou know, I was just reading a thread on the original Sailor Moon anime and manga, and this post from a few years ago caught my eye:
And it made me realize — MLP actually did a pretty good job of keeping its ensemble cast relevant. As the seasons went on, we got more and more episodes dedicated to other characters, like the Trixie/Starlight duo or the Spike/Big Mac/Discord bro trio. Sure, there were outliers like Zecora and Diamond Tiara (and apparently the writers did have story ideas for them, they just weren't approved) but for the most part we had a huge ensemble cast by the end, and a lot of them had a moment in the spotlight.
Of course, MLP was a Slice of Life show rather than a Monster of the Week show — the main characters didn't have to show up to defeat the current big nasty, so the writers could focus on other characters. In hindsight, "Lesson Zero" is probably one of the most important episodes in the series, as it made it so Twilight was no longer required to be involved in the episode somehow.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlaySpeaking of "Lesson Zero," I've been pondering this for a while. What would "The Mean Six" have been like if Twilight's Evil Counterpart was like how she went crazy in "Lesson Zero"?
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!Post of the Day #3054

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

I wonder if the dogs would consider it a rude thing to ask.
