A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Really liked the latest episode - and the premiere, for that matter.
It occurs to me that over the past several seasons, there have been some story arcs for some characters - Rarity's quest for recognition and expanding her boutique, Rainbow's quest to become a Wonderbolt, the CMC's quest to gain their Cutie Mark's (and what they'll do now that they have them), and mostly prominently, Twilight's studies under Princess Celestia and her new role as the Princess of Friendship, with Starlight's studies under her presumably being the next stage of that (Sunset supplements that with her own arc, I think). Has anyone else had an arc?
Oh God! Natural light! If I recall, there was some sort of internal disagreement on which one of the sisters was the oldest one. Either way, Pinkie isn't, and Maud is older than her.
Reaction Image RepositoryOverall, an entertaining ep and I LOVED the shoutouts to Manhattan ( and the one of Planes Trains And Automobiles), but otherwise it didn't stand out from the rest of the show. I predicted that the sleazy dealer was actually the store owner who closed his shop to dodge people he owed money to, but it turns out he wasn't.
Three observations I would like to make. First, either I am crazy, or the Canadian 1 week delay rebroadcast varies from the first broadcast version. Second, did anyone else look at that crack and think of the crack from that one season of doctor who? Third, family seems to be the theme for this season.
What channel does it air in Canada? Because the only time I've ever seen Pony air on Canadian TV is on Treehouse. And they censor the word "loser." Which has the opposite effect of what the idiot censors intended.

Yeah, Treehouse was messed up. It didn't help that they were apparently airing it on a channel aimed at preschoolers in between shoes like Barney.
Though, didn't Treehouse let up on the censorship in season 2?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayFinally finished season 2 of Wakfu
That crazy woman in the mecha really reminds me of Code Geass
So that's what Eliatropes really look like. Though I'm still wondering why they look mostly human, rather than white and blue like the MMORPG sprites.
Qilby learns that quantity has a quality of its own.
Speaking of which, could Eliatropes always fly with their headwings or was that something Yugo just sprouted? If he could always fly, why didn't he do it earlier?
Edit: After looking up the Eliatrope appearance thing, it turns out that the class in the MMO isn't Eliatrope. It's Eli Otrope. Which just happens to be a suspiciously similar subrace that aren't eliatropes proper. Which explains not only the different appearance but also why there is only one eliatrope (Yugo) at the time the game takes place.
Except that it still doesn't make much sense because eliOtropes are never seen or mentioned in the show. You'd think they would have come up, especially since they're so similar to eliAtropes.
Also something I never noticed: If you remove the es at each end, eliatrope backwards is portail (french for portal). Anakama loves backwards names.
Now to rewatch the finale with subtitles on:
I always wondered why there are little changes in the subtitles. For example, the kid says "toi, tu es le roi" (literally, you, you are the king) but it was subtitled as "You're the king, Yugo". Where did that come from? They didn't say the name at all. And I don't think it's even a matter of conveying the sense, since it feels like a simple "You are the king" would have been more faithful.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThis is driving me nuts. I know I remember Rarity making a scrunchy face in today's episode, but I can't remember what scene it was.

Wait, the EliOtrope thing was intentional and not just a typo? Weird. As for the subtitles, they match the English dub.

This song needs more love.Weird. As for the subtitles, they match the English dub.
You sure about that? Usually dubs and subs are separate translations. But that's besides the point. It doesn't explain why they felt the need to tack Yugo's name onto the end of the line there.
Anyway, after rewatching the finale with subtitles on, it's interesting to see that the villain has understandable motivations. I think that's a big strength of Wakfu. Admittedly, Q is far less sympathetic than Nox turned out to me, but they're both understandable at least. No villiany just for the sake of villiany (though Rushu's got that covered).
I am really wondering about the fake sequel hook/Aborted Arc with Ombrage. Early in the season , at the end of episode 4, Ombrage is shown being found by a fisherman as a sort of stinger/Sequel Hook. Except that this is never mentioned again at all apart from the credits gag in episode 19. Maybe it will be picked up in season 3? Who knows.
Anyway, now I have to find the OV As. Not sure if they're available on Netflix.
P.S. I wonder what the deal with the mysterious Sadida guy facing away from the camera at the end of the credits sequence was.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play
Yeah the dub and subs definitely match up. I started out with English before switching to French after episode 2 and it was perfect. As for the OVAs, two of them are not on Netflix (the Nox and Ogrest ones) and the other three are.

This song needs more love.As I read through the Wakfu thread, I just came across an old post from gingerninja. Right in the feels.
... even worse, it was his only post.
There was a whole year without any posts in the thread. I guess it really died down after season 2 ended.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayThat's probably because there was a pretty big gap between when season 2 was actually airing and when the kickstarter to get it translated launched.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, I discovered that. After the initial airing reactions were over, the thread was essentially dead until the kickstarter prompted a new discussion. It's still weird to see.
It's also funny coming across familiar names in the thread (Japanese Teeth and CDRW)
I'm also surprised that the Kickstarter page uses the English name for Tristepin (Sadlygrove) but lists the french name for Cléophée. I guess they didn't decide on an English name for her until they actually started the translation work, and they didn't do that until after the Kickstarter was over.
... which raises the question of where Sadlygrove came from. As I understand it, he was originally named in fansubs.
You don't like that Evangelyne can't walk on high heels? Remember that little fact, it does turn up later.
When does this come up again? I don't remember that.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, the thread slowed down a bit after the kickstarter, mainly because unlike most shows it wasn't really an ongoing release. I should probably check back in there at some point.
But now I'm going to bed.
Post of the Day #1417
Pretty sure the Crystal Empire two-parter was the only time that happened, and I think most here would agree that the Sombra story was one of the weaker ones in the show. The other times:
(Nightmare Moon) Celestia just told her to go to a town in the middle of nowhere and make friends, and nothing more
(Discord) She called the entire group up in order to fight, and Discord decided to mess with Twilight by isolating her
(Chrysalis) Celestia didn't even realize anything was wrong until it was too late, and Twilight was the only one to notice before that by virtue of being the groom's sister
(MMC) Celestia sent Twilight a spellbook, Twilight botched the spell and managed to fix it with her friends' help
(Tree) Celestia and Luna are kidnapped, Twilight independently decides to rescue them alone, which turns out to be a bad idea
(Tirek) Celestia tries to keep Twilight out of the loop about Tirek; admittedly she goes to her specifically for help later, but that's justified because by that point Twilight is the only alicorn left Tirek doesn't know about
@drac0: totally. when Maud repeated her request for a trade, i think i heard a slight change in her tone of voice.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

Okay, according to the wiki Limestone is the oldest. I mixed that up.
