A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Okay, so Scoots is a Wonderbolt, Apple Bloom is a platypus (?) and Sweetie is some kind of French noble or wait is that Sailor Moon I see in the background?
The vampire fruit bat would be appropriate. FISH SLAP
!
Fluttershy gets the impracticality of dresses. FISH SLAP X2!
Rarity, this is Halloween. Not Mardi Gras.
So, Rarity is a mermaid, Pinkie stepped right out of Xanadu, Twilight is a legionnaire (?), Dash is Buzz Lightyear, and AJ is the Cowardly Lion. And Fluttershy is a guest at a masquerade ball who misses the point of a masquerade ball.
Dash, that's the wrong end. You're supposed to stick it on her butt.
Fluttershy, now you're just being willfully scared stiff. You're playing pin-the-tail-on-the-evil-moon-pony, you're in a brightly lit room and you have five quite capable ponies around you who also happen to be very close friends. Nothing's going to happen if you put that blindfold on.
For Pete's sake, Fluttershy, it's bobbing for apples.
Oh for the love of- you're scared of candy now? And as for the rest of the group, I get they're trying to be supportive, but why has no one called her out on this yet?
And Dash finally gets around to saying as much... right before being shut up by the others before anything can actually get said. Way to go guys.
Oh good lord, it's that first Nightmare Night all over again, except reversed.
Okay Fluttershy, you were on the right track, right up until you said the words "tea party". But you can still salvage this. Is the tea poisoned? Is it a suspicious deep red color?
Fluttershy, this is Halloween. Think horror, not faux pas.
Someone's an anime fan. First the Sailor Moon costume from earlier, and now in a single shot we get her alter ego, Satsuki Kiryuin, Rei Ayaname, Ranma Saotome and some fifth character I don't recognize. Wait, does this mean Fluttershy watches anime?
You know, all of that could have been quite creepy with the right sort of delivery.
Oh, now Angel's in charge of the scares. This ought to be good.

GAH, that rubber horse head!
I feel like Big Mac would work better as Frankenstein's monster.
That Granny skeleton was genius.
Angel has a gift, I have to say. If they hadn't already clued us into the fact that Fluttershy and Angel are trying to put together a real scare, I'd be half inclined to believe all this was actually happening.
As true as that is, they'll be in on the whole thing next time around. They're not actually going to feel like they're in danger, and the thrill of a good pretend scare would be fun for everyone involved. I feel like Fluttershy's just giving up on this too quickly.
So, the ending was great. But up until then, I felt like they overplayed 'Shy's timidness. And not to downplay her general social fears (those are perfectly understandable), but for her to miss the point of Nightmare Night entirely on that first pass and try to "scare" everyone in that was just sad. Not the teary kind, the disappointing kind.
RA-RA-RARITY!
Lover to the Apple Queen,
There was a pone that really was gone.
RA-RA-RARITY!
Ponyville's great love machine,
It was a shame how she carried on!

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I think story was referring to Irish's reaction to a more recent episode.

Before I have to head off to school I hope that you don't mind if I vent a little this morning. I want to do this because last night I saw a pony fanwork that inspired such anger in me that I actually lost sleep.
Now going to say the name of the work, because despite my misgivings going into it the work is actually quite popular and used to get praised regularly (no longer since it has long since completed). The praise was in fact why I saw it out in the first place, despite the fact that I knew I probably wasn't going to like it. I thought that maybe I would see what others liked so much about it, but I was mistaken, oh boy was I mistaken.
At this point I'm really just baffled. Baffled at how the creator managed to con some many people in to liking such an emotionally empty, self-awaringly smug, and downright exploitative piece of work with one of the most insulting uses of Alternate Character Interpretation I have ever seen (mostly because people will insist that it really isn't that trope).
To anyone who may genuinely enjoy this work, I am sorry, but I am genuinely disappointed in you, and anything you say to try to defend this piece will not convince me that it is anything more then semi-pretentious dark tripe.
Sorry to anyone I may have offended but I needed to get that out of my system lest I lose more sleep. I have to go now. I hope that I haven't soured things so much that you will never want me to come back.
I'm confused too, although something tells me based on past experience that reaction was grossly exaggerated.
Let's just say the past experience was someone I thought was my friend telling me over facebook that because of my actions, the very sight of me made them sick.
My crime? I only found out months later that it was because I owned Skullgirls, which they claimed condoned rape.
A few months later, they went onto humiliate and verbally attack the heads of this group I am part of, because they used a picture of the Hype train, in Skullgirls art style. This person said he did it to protect them. Lets just say literally everyone in this group hates him now (seeing as his targets were loved by everyone in the group).
I don't talk to him anymore and he doesn't dare going anywhere near me now.
I wish I was making this up, but sadly I am not.

Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/I'm guessing the odds that he actually, you know, played the game or did any sort of research onto weather his claim was true hovers somewhere around .03%.
Reaction Image RepositoryWhen he eventually gained the guts to apologize and explain himself for it (between the two incidents mentioned), he said he saw it in an article online.
Me being the gullible idiot I am, fell for his apology (although I did tell him that what he said online still hurt and I could not fully accept it for that. That and do not believe everything online). Won't be accepting it this time if he tries seeing as he has proved they are not genuine.
It's the fact he learned nothing at all and did it again that still pisses me off when he turns up. That and the fact I have learned since then that it is a regular occurrence when it comes to him (heard he has even done it to Kill la Kill fans irl too)

Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/Yeah, whenever I hear some sort of accusation like that, I tend to at least see if said accusation pops up anywhere else. Or maybe ask somebody who's played or watched the thing in question.
Though even if it would be true his actions still make no sense. I mean, because of course it couldn't be that someone might buy the game or use similar artwork without knowing about that stuff beforehand...

Reaction Image RepositorySometimes I think the internet's biggest problem is the fact that anyone can say whatever they want regardless of quality control, outside of decently moderated forums.
And when it's so easy to shoot someone down without physical intimidation as deterrent, apologies can be hard to take seriously when you can go back and see exactly what they said.
The internet taught me greater restraint, not less.

All right, starting up the next episode, Scare Master. Wait a minute, that can't be right... stares at papers I could have sworn that was an episode already. It sounds so familiar.
Fluttershy's totally fine with giant spiders and bears, and yet she's scared of... something. Something "scary", apparently.
That under the bed sure looks cozy and spacious.
And Angel proves once again how his name is ironic. Also, Nightmare Night. Now I know what's got her scared. But why a Halloween episode the very week after a Christmas episode? Actually, don't answer that, the better question's still why the Christmas episode was in October.
Oh come on, Fluttershy, you were just fine with that much bigger, real spider in your house. A few fuzzy fake spiders should be nothing.
Okay, I will admit, those children did look a little creepy.
Granny is such a troll.
Yes. The safest, least scary place in town is the big, empty castle. Sure, Twilight lives there, but that's a loooooot of space for one princess and her trusty baby dragon.
Spike's got a point. Fluttershy should get out more.
Pinkie, your ghost stories stink.
And Rarity, yours at least had a promising setup. Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode. But still, you stink at actually telling the darned thing.
"I've decided to join you. Angel can just starve.
"
Corn maze. Corn maize. I see what you did there. Or maybe I'm just seeing things.
