A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@Epic Bleye: Couldn't we try publicly distancing ourselves from the assholes? Showing in some way that they do not speak for us?
Oh God! Natural light! On the topic of Sonic, amusing note about Big The Cat: His first voice actor is the same guy who voiced Duke Nukem, and he absolutly hated the role and the character so much that he intentionally forgot how to do his Big voice.
Also, Big has been retired from the Sonic games. He still appears in the comics, but Sega has flat-out said that they never intend on giving him so much as a cameo ever again when it comes to the video games. I actually don't hate Big as a character. He's kind of like the Sonic equivilent of Derpy {Heck, in the dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure 2 he had some oddly amusing and utterly random cameos much like the derp horse}. I just really hate the fishing stages from SA 1. Though when it comes to purple cats, Blaze is far cooler in every possible way.

Yes, but I'm talking about individuals who have behaved in an objectionable manner.
Screw it, I'm no good at this.
On an unrelated note, here's a question: is Pinkie sometimes a bad friend to Fluttershy? I'm not saying she intends to upset her, but her energetic, somewhat oblivious personality does seem to cause issues, like in "Filli Vanilli".
Oh God! Natural light!I remember that game getting all right reviews in game magazines, so it must have done something right or Sega gave those reviewers a bit of money.
Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/Awful battle mechanics, awful sounding soundtrack, Chaos are reduced to ugly little power ups with no garden, awful sound affects, rushed as hell, ugly graphics(Even the good looking 2D art and comics looks poor in the game),, use touch pad for everything in the game(Which can get buggy at points), bull shit hardness(Both bosses and enemies), and just all around unfun to play.
The writing was actually pretty good. Though the dialogue trees thing felt under developed, it's certainly no Mass effect. But still, it did have well written dialogue. Can't remember much of the story, but I don't remember it being bad.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013You know, there's another gripe I have with the Sonic games ever since I watched the Sonic Dissected videos: The stories and characters are way too simple now. Sonic nowadays is just a cocky guy who is always in control of everything and never shows much negative emotion {Hell, Sega has a mandate for the comics saying that he can never cry, be in a long-term relationship or have relatives}, whereas in the adventure games he was sometimes fearful {Not for himself, but his friends}, surprised, sad, etc. He's just a marty stu now. And Eggman use to switch back and 4th between being goofy and being a menacing, genuine threat who shouldn't be taken lightly {The guy who voiced him in the Sonic Adventure games especially helped with that, as he made the character sound menacing during the right moments}. Now he's just a goofball who gets mocked routinly by his own minions and everyone else.

I don't know if simple story and characterizations can really be much of a gripe though. I mean, Mario games are still successful and the story is usually 'Bowser has kidnapped X. Go Save' and Mario himself doesn't have much of a personality outside of the RP Gs (Luigi on the other hand...). Like Eggman, Bowser has suffered Villain Decay too although to his credit, he still has some menacing points when he feels like it.

Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/@Karkat: That's a good idea in theory, but in practice I think it would just result in the fanbase generating even more drama because nobody would be able to agree on who to "distance themselves" from, and exactly where that line needs to be drawn. In the end you'd have a nasty case of the Streisand Effect where the fandom would be mainly known for the infighting, which would completely defeat the point and draw even more attention to the nasty stuff. In short, I think the best course of action is to remind people that the fandom is just a cross section of humanity in general, and as a result it's going to have its fair share of jerks, same as any other random group of people.
As far as the Sonic Adventure games go, I enjoyed them when they first came out, but I can see why they haven't aged well. The Sonic and Shadow sections are still really good, but the issue with the other sections is that there are so many other games out there who have improved on the "treasure hunt" and "shooter" mechanics that those portions of the games haven't aged as well. They're still fun, but they've lost some luster.
And yeah, Mario has always been pretty light on story (except for Super Mario Sunshine, which is a good example of why they should not have serious stories), but the thing there is that in pretty much every mainline Mario game the gameplay is basically spot on, while the most recent Sonic games have been a bit iffy on that front.
That said, the music on Knuckles' levels is the epitome of Narm Charm, in the best way.

Reaction Image RepositoryYou know one thing about Sonic Adventure 1 I will admit hasn't aged well? Most of the voice acting. "Watch out, your gonna crash, AH!" is one example. Or "Oh No".
Unleashed, Black Knight, and to a lesser extent Lost World would disagree with the Sonic being a Sue thing.
Unleashed in large part is about feeling isolated because of his condition at night, to the point where even the Amy glomps an unrelated hedgehog Running Gag gets him down because she didn't think the wherehog was him. To her credit, she did get to hug the Blue Blur this time.
Black Knight represents Sonic's best portrayal in the eyes of many. He's extremely snarky, but also has a lot of sweet moments and the fact that he can relate to and bring Merlina down from her despair is a major plot point.
For me, I don't believe in generalizations. Everything almost always has merit, and nothing is ever Ruined Forever.
Something the Sonic and MLP fanbases really need to keep in mind. Those that jumped ship after Twilight's ascension seem rather immature to me, making broad assumptions without any attempt at nuance.
@Marston. You have the responsibility to dislike anything, I don't begrudge people's frustrations, but I get the impression you tend to see the dislikes in newer episodes, without giving them a fair chance. If you honestly don't like an episode, good on ya, but without seeing the material it's unfair to declare negativity without proof.
Again, I won't presume to tell you what is and isn't right, that's entirely up to you. If that was harsh, then I sincerely apologize.

Ah, okay. I can see what your coming from, but I don't think I've judged an individual episode without seeing it {I have no opinion on most of the episodes after Amending Fences, although Princess Spike sounds awful}, correct me if I'm wrong on that though. I just kind of stopped getting excited for new episodes and it started to feel more like a chore that only occasionally brings gems towards my way.
