A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Also this. The MLP fandom doesn't produce, proportionally speaking, any more or worse content than any other fandom.
@ Scott
And shit like that is why I am really nervous talking about the show with my parents or strangers in earshot or having Pony merch on show when not with my friends. There is still that stigma the public has and what you hear about online feels like the tip of the iceberg imo. I know my parents seem all right with it, but I know they object to me liking Pokemon but are quiet about that one now, so it might be just them being quiet about their disapproval.
@ Lets Players
I mostly just stick to a few youtubers, Gamegrumps not being one of those. Heard way too much bad about Arin. Besides, he isn't as awesome as Cry or Vinesauce :P .
Also, I think I have found my favorite final boss theme in gaming (spoilered as the title of the tracks are spoilers).
'Hopes and Dreams' and it's final remix 'SAVE the world' . Both from Undertale
Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/I really have no idea why people say that the Sonic Adventure games haven't aged well. Maybe certain bits of the 2nd one, but overall they still hold up strong today except for Big's levels and the treasure hunting stages of the 2nd game. I especially don't get why people keep saying that those games are just as bad as 06.
Also, even though I generally don't care for Game Grumps, I do like former grump Jontron since his seperate videos are hilarious.

-has exactly no opinions on Game Grumps and backs away, then steps forward again, then takes two steps to the left where the fridge is and makes a tasty sandwich. What were we talking about again?-
I still like the Sonic and Shadow levels, but everything else is even more meh than when I first played it.

What about the first game? Or the shooting stages? I happen to like those alot and find them fun, and I also don't get why people bash on them. Then again I like games where you can cause all kinds of destruction and I find shooting and blowing things up fun, so maybe I'm a little biased.
And even then it's still not as bad as 06. Do you go through terrible gameplay sections in the SA games? Do you die due to terrible glitches? Are the levels ridiculously long, unfair and hard? Are the stories long, complicated and boring slogs filled with human-on-anthro action? The awnser to all of those is no.

Maybe you just run into the wrong people since CoD and Battlefield stretching sequels on into eternity more or less shows that shooting and blowing stuff up is a popular past time.
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshi@Marston: I was referring to both games there. Basically its Sonic and Shadow levels > Everyone Else >>>>>> Big the Cat. When the game first came out I liked everyone else's levels just fine, but since then I care way less about them. I mean at this point I'm not really gonna replay the whole game, I'd just pop it in for a few levels, and those levels are not gonna be Rogue the Bat or whoever.
Haven't really played any Sonic games since then, partly because of all the bad word of mouth, but also because I was never really that into them to start with. I was always more into the cartoons and comics.
But man, fuck Big the Cat.
Although if you want actual stats or anything, it might be worth pointing out that somebody crunched the number on Derpibooru, and found that the ratio of explicit to safe images was way smaller than most people would think. As in, maybe around 10% of the images on Derpi are explicit, and not all of those are even porn (any image that shows genitalia gets the rating, even if it's non-sexual). So yeah, the fandom makes a lot of porn, but it makes way more non-porn.
And even of the actual porn, a big chunk of it is humanized, meaning that proportion of "furry porn" produced by fandom comprises maybe 5% of the fandom's output. Which is still a decent amount, given the size of the fandom, but the questionable material has always been dwarfed by the SFW material. It's just that "Fans of My Little Pony draw cute, safe for work fan art" doesn't sell, so they focus on the fringes of the fandom.
See, I think the issue is less what the definition of porn is in this case, and more about the fact that it involves explicit images of characters from a show with a target demographic of young kids.
That tends to...disturb people. I'll admit, I'm not entirely certain if such art should be permitted to be posted.
Although yes, claiming that every adult fan of MLP draws porn and jerks off to horses is blatantly incorrect and unfair.
Nevertheless, it may have merit to examine the fandom's practices and behaviors and try to determine what is acceptable and what isn't. It's easy to turn this into a narrative of discrimination, but at the same time, I don't think we can afford to treat every criticism as slander that can be ignored - there might be some legitimate concern. It doesn't matter what show we watch, but it does matter how we behave.
Thoughts?

Oh God! Natural light!^If your gonna try and do that, you might as well should do so to everything, because there is porn of everything regardless of the target demographic. Star Wars, Sonic, The Walking Dead, Mario, you name it, there's porn of it.
^^Tails's levels in the first game were more or less the same as Sonic's, except not as many and you have to race Sonic {And in one stage Eggman}. Sonic Heroes is pretty decent all things considered, as are the Sonic Rush games, the Sonic Advance trilogy {First one is the best though}, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations {Except for the final boss, that guy can go screw himself}, and Shadow's game is good for a laugh. But Sonic Unleashed is mediocre while Sonic 06 and Sonic and The Secret Rings are horrendously awful, and I heard that Boom is as well. Haven't even played Sonic Lost World, nor do I have any interest in doing so.

People should be allowed to make what they want however they want.
However, if it is something of, say, a children's cartoon, and it's porn, they should make it so they can't stumble across it accidentally. Which this fandom is very good about.
Fact of the matter is that porn will be drawn of everything, including every cartoon. As a large fandom, it is our responsibility to put extra effort into making sure that it is hidden away.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI think while Adventure games haven't aged well, I can still play SA 1 (DX edition, that is) and still enjoy it. About 5/6 of the game range from good to ok. The 1/6 part being Big's part.
Love Big, but not his levels.
SA 2, not a big fan honestly. Even counting the speed stages, I don't like it as much. Chao's are still the best part of the game though.
@Game Grumps Big fan of them, honestly. I do love the days of Jon on it, but I think it's gotten better since Danny joined.
As for Arin, I have a lot of respect and love for him, despite him having some blunders and me liking Dan a bit more. Yeah he can make an ass of himself sometimes on the show, but ignoring that, he's a pretty awesome dude. Great animator and artist since he was young, dropped out of High school and but still is very successful, married his high school sweetheart(Who's also pretty awesome and also pretty), he's got an amazing voice talent, and so on and so fourth. Massive respect for the guy.
I tried telling that to my mom and sister(I was trying to bring up the safe search thing bronies were doing). Didn't seem to get through to them.

My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013“I’m not torturing you because I’m a sadist! I’m torturing you because I enjoy inciting a reaction in you! :-D” This is exactly the same thing.
I think it was meant to be thought of as exactly that way At least for the adult viewers. Parental Bonus is a thing. Even if it wasn’t the intention, that’s what we were actually shown. If someone wrote a book and then said, “When I wrote that that character was torturing people to death, what it actually meant was that they liked puppies” it doesn’t change what was said in the book (and I take things like this ultra-seriously, yes. Because I get more enjoyment out of the show from that. I consider my reading of Discord to make the story have a higher quality. The ponies stood up to THAT and defeated it. And they reformed THAT. It’s a greater exploration of the themes. At least, to me.
The difference isn’t relevant. The way he enjoyed using his toys was by torturing them. A sadist by any other name remains a sadist. If you enjoy torture, you are a sadist by definition. There is no way to back out of that.

I agree that you won't be able to stop people from making it, and I agree that restricting access to it is probably the best way to go about it.
My major concern is more about the way some fans...behave.
Oh God! Natural light!![]()
No. None of that is correct. He's never puppeteered people directly and that is not the same thing as sadism.
But I can see arguing with you about this is pointless so I'm done here.
They're in the very extreme minority, and there are people like that in literally any group. There's nothing that can be done about those people.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeThing is, they are what the public sees first when it comes to the fandom. For Co D, it's the Co D-kiddies. For Sonic, it's the Chris-chans. For Bronies, it's those guys.
Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/And, sadly, there's nothing that can be done about that other than being a decent person while representing the fandom and not letting it get to you.
The crazy cringe people are what sell on media, and that's what people are going to eat up. Even if it's so, so wrong.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Mae
Your last line immediately brought this song to my mind.

And that's why I don't really watch or read the news anymore. Way too much bullshit. Heck, I saw something on the news this morning (parents were watching it while I was on my laptop) that one sausage or a small chunk of ham is enough to drastically increase your chance of cancer. Everyone facepalmed when that was being said.
That also reminds me of Dirty Laundry. Seriously one of my favorite songs.
I'm not one who really pays attention to the news, either. It seems like no matter what they're always going on about another shooting or police brutality case or some other really horrible thing that I really didn't want to know about.
My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013Hence why my reaction to a new guy trying to pull a "How old are you, and you like a show for little girls?" shtick on me. (Do note, I do NOT hide I love the show in the least. It came up when he was just asking what show's I watched... all I had to do was lean over to another coworker and have her tell him, since they all knew the answer.) His whole reason why I shouldn't like it is "It's a terrible show" while admitting he's never watched it but just thought it was wrong for me to like it..... was to just walk away laughing my ass off at him.
Also, pop into the Fic thread for a lot of discorse on how I hate broad sweeping generalizations rather then taking every thing on a case by case basis for why I find anyone of the "Hold the minority as being = to all" to be utter fucking idiots that deserve nothing by ridicule and being laughed at for being such utter, fucking morons.
y'know, there is one thing I like about this forums above the others I have been on; this one doesn't seem to give a crap about people sprinkling swear words into their posts. All of the other forums I have been on would warn you if you tried using any words naughtier than poop.

Eh, the only real response to that is to point out that the freaky minority is always way more visible than the bulk of the fanbase who doesn't do that stuff. I mean, obviously "man watches MLP, doesn't draw porn" doesn't really draw anybody's attention, so they only time you hear about the fandom is when they do weird stuff.
