I just finished watching the first two episodes of Wata Mote... It's like the unholy love child of Azumanga Daioh and Welcome To The NHK. I can't stop grinning, no matter how horrified I am.

@story: Just go into the equip screen and select the optimize option. It automatically gives them the best items available. I don't think I ever bothered comparing numbers for equipment .

Now I feel like sticking FFVI Advance in my DS Lite and playing it again.

I like how she manifested glasses.

Like, UNLIMITED POWER but first I gotta make sure I can see straight.

I like that she didn't even use the unlimited magic to fix her eyesight. She just used it to make glasses OUT OF FIRE.

To be fair, I'd probably do the same thing if I still wore glasses. Or even with contacts. Glasses out of fire are awesome.

So, watched the new movie last night.

Pros:

• Sunset's continued character arc is definitely the high point of the entire film.
• Sci!Twi is a nice callback to pony!Twi's original characterization.
• Best job yet of giving all the HuMane girls something to do in one of these.
• Dat climax, yo.
• The credits stinger. Ha.
• Better roles for Celestia and Luna (now if only they'd gotten character redesigns to go along with it). That said, they're still not exactly the best authority figures in the world here.

Mehs:

• The Shadowbolts are straddling this weird limbo zone between being background characters and supporting characters. They're given just enough individual attention to elevate them above background characters, but not enough to make them actual characters. I think we only got their names at one point in the middle of the movie, and I'd be damned if I could tell you any of them now.
• The songs are okay, but no real standouts.

Cons:

• Principal Cinch is awfully one dimensional, with really no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I'm not the type to demand that every villain be as developed as the heroes, but she is a major step down from the Dazzlings in every way. And why the heck is she named after Atticus Finch, anyway?
• Definitely the most overt the show or movies have ever been about plugging new toys.
• The Friendship Games competitions themselves make no sense for various reasons. The motocross bit is the crowner, complete with the ol' "let's not bother stopping the competition or declaring the results invalid despite the sudden obvious danger/outside interference in the event" trope.

Overall: Agreed with the consensus. Better than EQG, not as good as RR.

That still doesn't gaurentee optimal equipment because some items are only equippable by certain characters or you don't have enough of the best item. Of course, actually doing all the item comparisons is hard work and I doubt it actually makes a difference, so next time I go shopping, I'm probably just going to buy stuff until all the green arrows go away.

Final Fantasy 6: Previously on Story plays FF 6: Locke runs off to South Figaro to go "treasure hunting". Jokes on him though because Edgar already picked every crate and barrel in the citiy clean, which he would have known if he had been paying attention while riding around in Edgar's pocket.

Terra made up her mind and decided not to help the Returners. But Bannondorf just kept asking her until she said yes because he has no short term memory.

The Returners were previously confident that the Empire would never look for their hideout where it was, probably because of the diversionary road they built. But then the Empire takes South Figaro and suddenly everyone is freaking out? It's not even anywhere nearby. How does the Empire taking some other random city make them more likely to find the hideout in a completely different area? Are there Returners in South Figaro that they're going to torture or something?

Terra's still too shy to use magic, but she figures she's got to do something to be the Returner's "ray of hope", so she decides to take point in the party from now on. Also, she made Edgar giver her his shoes so that he doesn't run off with them again.

Huh, apparently, I can't access Banon's items. I guess he's not long for this party.

Not really sure what Banon's praying did. It's hard to keep track in the heat of battle, but I'm guessing it heals people.

The party managed to run away from battle despite being on a tiny little raft in the middle of a river.

Does it actually matter which direction you pick in the river?

It seems that Praying does heal people. This makes fighting a lot of battles without healing way easier.

Next time I'm talking the Barlow Toll Road.

Random Boss Fight with a squid out of nowhere. Time to break out the blitz I guess. Oh octopus, excuse me.

Geez does this guy have a lot of health. At least Pray means that there's no risk of actually dieing, it's just a huge grind, even with Raging Fist and Auto Xbow.

Sabin just ran away with Banon's "good luck charm". I knew he was up to no good.

Choose a scenario kupo? WTF is this? Oh well, seems like a good place to stop.

Just watched the move

It was pretty good. It started out strong, but the ending wasn't as great as the first half. It seems like they just went with flashy over logial. Also, Sunset earned the Power of Understanding!

The climax was pretty good. And the bit right before the credits was funny. We better get that timeloop episode. And it better be a parody of Groundhog Day.

Wryte: Wait, Cinch is a reference to Finch, even though the characters have nothing in common? I'm confused. I definitely agree on the one-dimensionalness and think they probably could have fixed it by having her not play out her whole hand on the first meeting. As in, if they'd just left it at Cinch trying to just bribe Twi with the guaranteed application, instead of also making the threat, it would have looked less like card carrying villainy and merely shady pragmatism. Then she could keep pretending to be trading favours with Twi before finally making the threat outright just before Twi goes nuts. It'd be pretty thinly veiled, but given Twi's social background with the school, it'd be really easy to have played Cinch pretending to be one of Twi's two only friends (since she seems to at least be somewhat close to Cadance).

EDIT: Oops, I see where the name play is now. I think I missed it because of stream issues (read: dumb, obtrusive ads that didn't always allow me to sync them with the actual commercial breaks).

Story: Locke is a bit more creative than Edgar about "treasure hunting".

Now that you're past that part, fun fact: if Terra refuses him enough, he'll just try to outright bribe her with a Genji Glove (dual wielding enabled) instead of the Gauntlet (increased power for weapon by occupying the other hand to make it a "2-handed" weapon).

In casual play, most of them won't matter. I mean, IIRC, one route is usually slightly longer than the other, which might amount to another battle. Either way, they largely just lead to the same place, so it's only really a concern for speed runs. There is, however, one choice near the final save point where if you pick one of the routes, it'll just keep looping back to the choice. This is to let you grind in case you're not strong enough for Ultros.

Yeah, Ultros is a tank. Even speed runs constantly blasting him with Fire, the Crossbow and Aurabolt tend to take a few rounds.

If you keep saying no, everyone's hand gets forced when the Empire just rolls up and attacks South Figaro while you're hanging out in the mountains. You don't even have time for that planning meeting in that scenario.

Is there any place to watch EQG in full, in decent quality? Or is up anywhere by Perfectly Legal Means yet? Even if the last two were frankly horrendous theater-going experiences I'm still a bit miffed this one didn't air in theatres, because I don't have TV so I couldn't see it when it came out.

I did see that it was available split in two, I'm just curious if it had been put into a single part anywhere yet. I prefer to watch stuff with as little interruption as possible.

But, if that's the form it comes in that's the form it comes in. I've already been spoiled on some of the major elements, so I may as well watch it before anything else can be spoiled for me.
