A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I don't blame him. Isn't it basically the point of the story to watch people self destruct when with just a little effort a lot of people would have been a lot better off? Except they can't get that help because everyone is broken. Shinji is surrounded by people who abuse or ignore him and there's basically no one he can relate to or depend on.
I mean, sure, if you're watching the story for the monster fights then Shinji would be kind of grating but the angels just never seemed at all interesting to me. They're not what I was there for.
wasn't that Lelouch's plan at the end of Code Geass?

good night
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Judging from what you said, you'd completely hate the protagonist of Red Rising at first. Trust me. So did I. The character development is great.
What they were meant as is irrelevant. Once added, they are an explicit part of the verse. Things for the audience’s benefit are fine, but I don’t believe they are treated as being solely that in this show. If some examples are deigitic, they all are.
On Shinji: My problem with him isn't that he's weak or scared or any of that. He's just ... boring and ... self-centered and ... well, it's hard to describe. I just found him less than interesting.
One could always say that what we're watching are in-universe dreams/hallucinations that nonetheless more or less reflect what "really" happened. Like, say, Lost Highway.
Well, that can be them "literally" having Imagine Spots.

The Answer You Want To Hear: It starts with an elaborate secret handshake. Every member of the Commonwealth of Bronyhood must enact this handshake in accordance with the ancient Pact of Magical Friendship before convening in any and all matters of MLP. And that's just one of the initial rules (or "doctrines" persay) in a 972-volume series originally scrolled on parchment. Then after all matters have been addressed and sorted, the bronies drink a sacred brew made from oats and burnt apple shavings as they recite the Oath of Celestia as a constant reminder of where their loyalty lies lest they forget and be scorched from the earth by "her ladyship's" burning eye inhabiting the core of the sun. After that, they go usually go out for tacos and karaoke before heading home.
That's right we need to think of the next one.
Maybe we could do something like making it The Rashomon. Where each character retells the same story, but changes something. And eventually the same characters tell the story again and it's different. Eventually the story they're supposedly telling would be completely different from the original version.
Reaction Image RepositoryPersonally, I'm not particularly enthused about telling exactly the same story each chapter (albeit with variations each time).
What if the chapters were written in reverse chronological order? The first chapter is the conclusion, and each succeeding chapter has to explain what happened before the events of the chapter it's following.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...
Well, the whole point would be that the story varies enough that it becomes completely different by the end. Like Twilight comes back from business in Canterlot to discover the Town Hall is in ruins, and everybody has a different version of exactly what caused it.
Though the "reverse order" thing could also work, though it would be a kind of a pain to set up. Would we post the chapters in writing order or in chronological order?
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, like the only thing that needs to be consistent is the core idea. Like as long as the Town Hall is destroyed, most of the rest of it is up in the air. Ideally you'd want to include some content from the previous version, but you could easily twist it. Like if the first chapter is RD claiming that an Ursa Major wrecked the town hall before she used a Rainboom to drive it away, the second one could be Applejack claiming that there was an Ursa, but the Town Hall was actually destroyed by Rainbow Dash's Rainboom missing the monster, etc.
Reaction Image RepositoryOn a different note, if people really want to do a Rashomon, that's cool too.

To me, he's not sympathetic because he goes through a lot of the same stuff I did, sans giant robots. But he never does anything to help himself. I didn't see any indication he wanted out of his situation. Going through that sucks and it hurts, but if you want it to end and build a new frame of strength to deal with it, you have to face your fears.
