Well, there are moments where he shows that he has the town's best interest at heart. It's just that, when your town keeps getting terrorized in every sequel by an infamous pirate because she has a strong grudge against your Guardian game protagonist, you start to wonder if it's time to look for another Guardian. <.<
They did say they'd like to include stuff from the stretch goals as DLC if worst comes to worst.

Looks like the 900k goal is being able to play as Shantae's friends. The 1M goal is probably some kind of ice staff, 1.1 M is voice acting (duh), and 1.2 M probably would be a time-travel adventure judging by the description. I haven't got a clue for the 1.3M goal... tv commercial?
"we have to get vaccines against hunger"I would think the TV being in the silhouette means it'd be more than just an opening or game cutscenes, but who knows. If they reveal it, it'll probably end up being something unexpected.
By the way, the devs are up in Reddit for at least the next couple of hours.
EDIT: Concerning their competing with Mighty No. 9:
Matt Bozon: I'd guess there would be more attention on Shantae if the timing had been different. But on the other hand Mr. Inafune's team was awesome in cross-promoting. There doesn't seem to be a concrete answer, but the energy on Kickstarter is very high overall.
Adam Tierney: From what I've seen and read, I don't think there's that much cannibalization of funds between campaigns on Kickstarter. If you have a great game concept and pitch, people will back it, regardless of what else they just backed. The fact that Mighty No. 9 and Shantae: HGH are both doing so well is evidence of that. :)
They also said that they've been talking with Comcept on a near-daily basis now, but any hopes of a crossover will depend on a variety of factors.

At least WayForward and Comcept are on good terms and scratching each other's backs to a degree. It's a good start, I'd say.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarIn related news I borrowed the original game and gave it a play. Its pretty fun. And the spritework is great.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBreaking news, d00ds. As a "yay we're 90% funded" award, there's a new Dance Shantae costume in Risky's Revenge and also the game is free to download for a limited time.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's going to be on Steam too when that eventually comes out, though. Don't worry.
It probably has something to do with D Si Ware policy. Maybe Nintendo's gotten rid of it completely and is just going for the e shop now.

Based on Way Forward's comments in the Update, seems like something's preventing them from implementing this in the DSiWare version, but they'll be including the alt costume to the Steam version and Pirate's Curse.
Sad face. I don't have an iOS and I'm pretty sure the Steam version won't be free when it comes out, so I can't partake in this new update.
Overall though, nice bonus. I was planning on playing the game again soon anyway.
EDIT: I just saw the outfit and I'm surprised. I didn't think her outfit could seem any skimpier.
Apparently, it trades defense for more "magical ability", whatever that means.

Based on the speed-run comment, I'm guessing her spells deal twice the damage.
