@Wack'd Hyperintelligent time-traveling deer? That sounds badass.

[up]It sounds badass until you find out just exactly how and why they're causing issues, at which point it becomes just plain hilarious.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

So that last episode gave us some more Cecil backstory. Apparently his canon name isn't "Cecil Baldwin," but "Cecil Gershwin(?) Palmer." And he also had a brother. And we actually get a good explanation for Cecil's mom being scared of mirrors.

[up] His what name? evil grin

Hyperintelligent time-traveling deer? That sounds badass.

It also sounds extremely familiar. But I can't say what it reminds me of, or Wack'd will get mad at me.

This web radio show remains something I like kinda but can't really call myself a fan of. Sorry.

Hey, I just thought of something: Young Cecil mentions the Faceless Old Woman living in his home, but Current Cecil always says that she lives in "your" home. What are the implications of this? Does every house (or maybe just a few houses) in Night Vale have its own Faceless Old Woman? Or maybe it's the same Faceless Old Woman and she moved?

So I just realized that Cecil Baldwin was the only one credited at the end. Holy crap, dude's got range.

This begs the question: did fifteen-year-old Cecil Baldwin sound like Cecil Baldwin playing fifteen-year-old Cecil of Night Vale/Cecil Palmer, thus meaning Cecil was impersonating Cecil while playing Cecil while also playing Cecil?

(Also, should I keep spoilering that particular spoiler?)

[up][up] Apparently his voice was sped up 5% to lose the bass, and that was it. Everything else (including, undoubtedly, the voice cracks) was him.

I was impressed myself. Knowing how they did it makes more sense.

Do we have a statute of limitations on spoilers? I mean do we have to spider everything new we talk about when the episode came out yesterday?

Well that was interesting. Like really interesting. So Radio host is a destined role, there was a previous guy, I wonder what happened to him....

I am also really scared about this whole mirror thing... I mean, They cost him his family, I mean... What does that mean? And did he grow up like a normal person or did he suddenly get shifted from youth to adult by some strange supernatural means? How much of his memories are fake? Or erased?

It's a shame he is so used to all this weirdness and that typical response seems to be to ignore or destroy the unknown or things that contradict your current... beliefs....

Huh, that sounded like a commentary on modern society there...

[up]Nah, I think it's just Cecil being Standard Night Vale Crazy(tm).

And really, it seems more like he destroyed the tape not because he didn't understand it, but because it scared him. Which, I mean, makes sense. If I found a past recording of myself that I didn't remember making and involved paranormal situations that never happened to me, I'd be pretty spooked, too, even if I was used to Night Vale's weirdness.

Also, it kind of sounded like he only destroyed that last tape — the one with the particularly freaky stuff on it involving whatever was in the mirrors. There seemed to have been multiple tapes and at the end I'm pretty sure he said he was destroying "the tape," so maybe he kept the ones that weren't sodding terrifying to mull over.

[up] I'd argue that Standard Night Vale Crazy is itself social commentary. The show is just loaded with political and social commentary, but generally obfuscated under several layers of weirdness and character so that it's not too intrusive.

That whole 'Faceless Woman Who Lives in Your Home' thing got me thinking about A Story About You. I mean, if Station Management gets its...appendages in a twist when Cecil goes on and on about Carlos, why was he allowed to dedicate a whole episode to some random person? Anybody else think he was supposed to talk about You? And maybe it's just me but when Cecil says 'You do not open the box' in A Story About You it sounded a lot like he was compelling You. But that could just be me because apparently Mr. Baldwin records the episodes in his apartment and the Creators just let him do what he does but I'm sure there are directions of some kind.

[up]Not only are there not directions of some kind but Fink and Cranor have said that they were initially downright confused when guest voices asked for direction. It hadn't even occurred to them.

So I got up through episode 19. a stoy about you is easily my favorite so far, that episode was genuinely unsettling, really great stuff.

the sandstorm episode was alright, but it wasn't until the desert bluffs episode that I thought it was great.

I think Cecil's mentor creeped me out most. Talking about how he was like Cecil and then immediately becoming a man. This episode actually reminded me of the hike Cecil took to those alien worlds.

[up] You mean, across Europe?

[up][up] That was my impression of it too. The duplicates just aren't as interesting to me on their own as some of the other bizarre phenomena.

My favourite episodes are probably Street Cleaning Day, Subway, and Dana.
