Late to the train on that one, outlaw.

So how many people here actually read a significant number of Guardians Of The Galaxy books?

I've read a good chunk of the 2008 series, as well as The Thanos Imperative. Haven't read much of Brian Michael Bendis' run, but from what I have seen, I'm not missing much.

I haven't read any of the 'original'/'classic' issues, but I have read and still have the individuals issues from the Star-Lord Annihilation: Conquest mini-series and the entirety of Dn A's Guardians' run all the way through the end of Thanos Imperative, plus the Annihilators and Rocket Raccoon & Groot miniseries.

Funny Story: I actually started reading Guardians of the Galaxy because in I think the first issue, they showed Captain America's shield frozen in what was revealed to be temporal ice, and I actually picked up the next issue because that was also around the time of the death of Captain America and I was wondering if they might have been bringing Captain America back that way somehow.

So that's how I got started reading Got G and eventually became a fan of theirs.

And I, too, have been avoiding the Bendis issues, mostly because as far as I can tell they basically ignore much of the stuff that happened during Thanos Imperative, which is kind of a big frikkin' deal for me, especially since I enjoyed Thanos Imperative so dang much.

I'm kind of jazzed to see a Marvel movie that I have never read the comic for. My only experience with them is from the Avengers: EMH appearance, and knowing Drax the Destroyer from the Genis-Vell era of Captain Marvel. (But his daughter better turn out to not be dead, because she's one of my favorite characters in all of Marvel...) Except that Drax has changed quite a bit since then, from what I gather, so he's practically an entirely new character to me.

I guess I'm just interested in experiencing a superhero movie the way my non-comics-reading friends do. I'd never have been able to do that with a more well-known franchise.

Marvel not having the rights to do Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Spider-Man may have been the biggest blessing in disguise the company could have hoped for.

I have the entire Dn A run as well. I pretty much ignore anything Bendis does with established characters now.

[up][up][up]There's a Starlord Halloween costume that was leaked a few weeks ago that is probably based on the movie version, complete with mask. Most comments I saw seemed to approve.

My first exposure to the GOTG was from their episode in Ultimate Spider-Man. If I had the money, I wish I could read the series that's running now (that has Iron Man as a member).

But hey, does someone mind explaining that "You're Welcome" bit that's on the poster? I don't really get it.

It's either snark directed at movie-goers who've never heard of this property and never asked for a movie like this, or a genuine sentiment directed at the fans of the comic who never thought it would be made into a movie. Or both.

Or it's supposed to be the characters saying it. You know, like "We're the Guardians of the Galaxy. You're welcome, by the way."

From what I can tell, it's a double entendre. On one hand, the Guardians are a bunch of snarky dicks with a thankless job, so a perfect tag line for them is a pre-emptive "your welcome". On the other hand, Marvel is basically saying "Here's another awesome movie. You're welcome."

I take all of the above.

GOTG is definitely not a series anyone expected to get made.

If Marvel had the rights to Spider Man and the X Men, we'd have likely never seen it as well.

Funny conversation piece I came across today regarding the trailer:

They made a space D&D / Spelljammer movie
No it is not a space D&D/Spelljammer movie. It is a comic book series movie.
Nope
That's deffo PC behavior in that trailer
It's got a bunch of crazy P Cs with crazy backstories
who appear to be trying to crash the DM's rails
in space
ergo, Spelljammer\\

Notably, it's from a conversation related to an ongoing RPG, so that might have something to do with it.

I honestly feel bad for Warner Brothers. Marvel has so much time and resources that they can make a freaking "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie and DC still hasn't moved that far past Batman and Superman.

You know what would really rub salt in the wound? A Squirrel Girl movie. Hell, that might actually be on the way.

I think the big difference is that Marvel is ready to take risks, but Warner Brothers is a lot less willing. Out of the superhero movies they've made, you've got 5 Superman movies, 7 Batman movies, one Supergirl movie, a Green Lantern movie, Catwoman and Watchmen and that's about it. Oh, and an upcoming movie that sounds kind of like a mess so far. There was a big gap in there where no superhero movies were being made, but still.

I will be really glad if this movie will do well since that would prove everyone complaining about obscure characters in game adaptions and such wrong tongue I mean seriously, there already exists like thousand versions of more popular characters, it'd be more interesting to see obscure ones getting adapted to cartoon series and such more often...

I just had a rather odd dream about this movie. Odd in that it actually kind of made sense.

Anyway, it went like this; Peter is having some sort of hearing, with Rael presiding as judge. I think the other Guardians were there too. Richard Rider Nova was there too, but he was wearing this really bulky armor they called "Chain Armor" which supposedly acted like a power limiter.

In my dream, Peter is being questioned about something, I don't know what, maybe details on a crime he commited. Some past event. He starts going way off topic and sort of calls the Nova corps out on why they could never bring him back to Earth (or let him back to Earth) in all the years. Supposedly Earth is a known planet, but there's some kind of no fly zone since it hasn't reached a high enough level of technology/civilization.

Peter starts getting really angry and Rael decides to screw asking him and they put this device on his that can display a person's thoughts. They want to see what happened at the supposed crime scene, but it instead ends up showing how Peter ended up in space all that time ago. That's where the dream ended, and I think Peter was abducted by aliens, though I didn't see it in my dream.

It makes me wonder if something along those lines does happen in the film. Which I doubt it will, but it's one way to show an origin.
