I can't nominate The Knickerbockers as a whole, because I've only heard one song of theirs... So I don't know if the rest of their material measures up to this one song, and have no idea if they always aped early Beatles this blatantly or if it was just a Black Sheep Hit. But "Lies" might be the best Beatles song not written or performed by The Beatles.

Dammit, you beat me to the punch.
To top it off, if it wasn't for that song's existence, we wouldn't have this awesome They Might Be Giants song that it inspired:
And now I'm realizing that intro sounds a hell of a lot like "Getting Better".
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

Out of all the bands created to cash in on the Fab Four, which are your favorite?
For me, The Tigers are just great. They were a manufactured band for the most part, with Koichi Sugiyama of Dragon Quest fame composing/arranging most of the band's music. However what makes the band stand out from other generic Beatles clones, in my opinion, is the fact all of the band members have different vocal types. Guitarist Toppo has a high pitched, resounding voice, Kenji Sawada is known for his smooth, Rod Argent like voice, and bassist Itou Kishibe has a distinct bass vocal not usually seen in 60s "boy band" types.
After Toppo departed the band, the band took on an even more diverse sound, with the 1970s albums sounding like Hendrix records.
Any more gems out there?(I don't count The Who, The Rolling Stones, as they had identities of their own)
