So with the recent global terrorism alert I realised that we don't have a place to discuss such events as they happen and how they are being dealt with/reacted to.
So now I've done that, here's the latest as I'm aware of it. Normally I'd provide sources but I'm on my iPad so it's difficult to do so.
US embassies across the Great Middle East are closed until Saturday due to the current threat, the embassies of other western nations in Yeman have also been closed with staff being evacuated from the county.
Additionally a global travel alert has been issued for all US citizens, with US/UK citizens in Yeman being told to leave immediately.
Yeman's security services have been placing much of the country on lockdown, with the army out in force due to intelligence indicating that a large number of Al-Qa'ida operatives are in the country to work on the expected attack.
They (Yeman's security forces) have also just recently announced that they have foiled an attempt by AQ to blow up several oil pipelines and seize control of costal cities, howev they remain on high alert, so there is obviously more to come.
Mod edit:
- As of July 2024, the OTC Israel and Palestine thread
is locked indefinitely and that discussion should not migrate to other threads. Discussion of terrorism or extrajudicial activity related to either of them (including speculation about a connection to them) is banned here.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesI don't think it has much to do with self-preservation as it has to do with pragmatism. If they try to pull a Charlie Hebdo-attck on a US embassy, they'll likely to get killed before the manage to reach the front gate.
No reason to waste men & resources like that.
It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane. Australian teenagers held over alleged Melbourne ANZAC Day terror plot
About 200 police officers took part in the counter-terrorism operation in the city early on Saturday. Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Neil Gaughan told reporters that evidence suggested the suspects had been influenced by Islamic State. One of the men, Sevdet Besim, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Police say a second man held on terrorism-related offences is also likely to be charged. A third man, also 18, was arrested on weapons charges and two other teenagers, aged 18 and 19, were in custody and assisting with inquiries. Officials referred to possible attacks using "edged weapons", but Mr Gaughan said there was no evidence to suggest there was "a planned beheading".
And an article from Australia
, which goes into more detail.
ISIS beheads more Christians
But of course it is Islam that is under threat. How's your glorious war against "the Crusaders" ISIS. And go die in hell while your at it.
Technically, it's suppose to be "allow us to proselytize freely within your borders, and in turn let your citizens choose for themselves whether or not to convert; alternatively, pay a modest portion of your collective yearly net income in exchange for mutual peace as well protection by us from any aggressors; failing that, we shall settle things through war (while obeying basic human decency throughout said war)". Of course, try convincing extremists and really wacko fundamentalists to not dilute it to "convert by force, pay ridiculous tax, or prepare to die to the last man, woman and child".

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. And let me guess, no other religion is allowed to prostalatize in the boarders of an Islamic country. Face it ISIS, YOUR FAITH IS NOT UNDER THREAT!! Most of the governments you hate have bans on anyone converting away from Islam, under punishment of death in at least Sudan as I recall, you have a massive growth in followers due to births alone, not counting conversions. Right now the biggest threat to Islam is you.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.
Religious fundamentalists always think their religion is in perpetual danger. Even when/if their brand is expanding.
Positive news: Bergen (in Norway) mosque expels 'IS recruiter'
:
Muslims in Norway are becoming increasingly involved in combatting radicalization among the young, after a string of highly publicised cases of Norwegian Muslims fighting with IS in Iraq and Syria.
The mosque is working with Bergen municipality and the Norwegian Intelligence Service to prepare a plan of action.
According to the newspaper's own research, young muslims who have little contact with their local mosque are at the greatest risk of radicalisation.
“We know that a lot of radicalization happens in young peoples' bedroom on the internet.” Bandeh told Bergens Tidene. "So it is important that we have something to offer the young, and various activities they can participate in.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.^ And apparently the FBI might not have caught any of them had one of the recruits not gotten cold feet at the last minute and ratted the rest out: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/04/19/federal-agents-terror-sweep-minneapolis-san-diego/26054419/
