Ys X is coming in English in Fall 2024
.
Damn that was fast, I was expecting 2025 at the earliest.
She/Her | Currently cleaning: N/ASo, I bought 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim a couple weeks ago because it was on sale. Is there anything I should be prepared for gameplay-wise? I've heard that the game is about half gameplay, half story, but is that true?
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrIt's basically an adventure game with the occasional segment of RTS tower defense. The RTS gameplay is fine and competent enough, but the adventure game portion is the main attraction.

The fight against the mysterious Sky Armor boss in the old ruins when he tries to take the Fantastic Nuke from you. I'm fighting in Sky Armors, so the team composition doesn't really matter that much, though I am using support drones instead of attack drones.
I did manage to beat the guy later, I should add. It was a matter of anticipating when he'd do that group terror spell and plan accordingly.
After much speculation, Tokyo Xanadu's sequel, currently named New Project has been announced
.
Looking forward to this bad boy :0
She/Her | Currently cleaning: N/ASince there is not much going on the Tokyo Xanadu sequel site (beside the announcement), here are some of my speculations on it:
- It can be sequel, taking place years after the events of the first game (perhaps not coincidentally, potentially 10 years, the same amount of time between the actual games (not counting the Updated Re-release)). The cast of the first TX game are now in their late twenties and since their character arcs are done by that point, they obviously need to shake up with a new cast. Of course, Falcom being Falcom, cameos from them are inevitable.
- If the clothing from the main guy is any indication, it can also take place in the past. Of course, that's the only clue we have on that theory so this one is somewhat shaky.
As for plot details:
- If going the Continuity Cameo sequel route, the cast would obviously be Older and Wiser thanks to the time-skip. I just like the idea of the old Xanadu being parental figures and babying the new cast, it creates some fun scenes. I also like the idea of Ryouta, of all people, becoming a brotherly Mellow Fellow who is ashamed of his past actions.
- If the promotional material is any indication, Kyoto will be the front and center area of the game. I actually want to visit Kyoto one day so I'm quite interested to see how it would translate and interpreted into the game.
- I mentioned this before but I would love the idea of a Human-Greed hybrid appearing in the story. The concept of a Half-Human Hybrid, especially if they are only known one (you can thank Steven Universe on that idea), can create some interesting moments like "how do they control their powers?", "how can they summon their Soul Device despite Soul Devices being the only thing that can damage Greeds?", "how did they manage to exist in the first place?" and so much more.
- Maybe this entry can explore the Greed's origin, seeing how they truly operate as well as the deal with Rem and the whole "Remember what she said" Sequel Hook at the end of the After-Story.
Meta Stuff:
- Localization wise, there is 50/50 split on either Aksys Games or NISAmerica, thanks to TX eX+'s Switch port getting localized by the former. I've seen comments that if the new game get localized by the former, it would be "bad" but, speaking as someone who played the Otome games they localized from the somewhat train-wrecky Café Enchanté (back in 2020) to the near flawless Jack Jeanne (2023), doesn't sit right with me. I also seen complaints about the No Dub for You treatment but NIS also doesn't a few of their games (their FuRyu collection is particular) so I won't get mad if the sequel doesn't have a dub.
Of course these are my two cents and I want to know what others think.
Edit: grammar

She/Her | Currently cleaning: N/AThe sequel sounds interesting, but I haven't played the first game. Which also sounds interesting, but I have a lot in my backlog right now.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrIts a good game... just the English translation was originally Ys VIII levels of bad. The Tokyo Xanadu EX retouched the translation quite a bit but it was still off, especially talking to NP Cs.
This release will be the third time they have translated the game.

From what I've heard it's not a bad game, but it's not fantastic. The gameplay is slow and clunky and the story's a shameless Persona rip-off. It's not terrible, but there's nothing new and what's there isn't told well enough to compensate. They tried to make an action game in the Trails engine but it just didn't work.
Again though, I haven't played it personally.
- Untranslated text in menus, names and text boxes.
- Blank text boxes.
- "Quotation marks" in "almost" every "sentence"
- Inconsistent terminology like (looking this one up) Kin of Twilight, Breed of Twilight and Breed of Dusk are all used interchangeably even in the same conversation. The song "Koi no Shooting Star" is translated as "Shooting Star Love" and "Love's Shooting Star". A location called 'Sunshine Road' had the header of 'Sansan Road' in its intro cutscene.
- Nonsensical grammar errors and things like the first swimming class just getting called "Swim", then later iterations get properly called "Swimming Class".
- They forgot to spell check, the character's names were especially bad.
- Failure to actually get cameo names right, like Mishette was Misshe. Ymir also got mistranslated.

In Aksys' defense, they probably weren't aware of the Trails series (and its terminology and stuff like that) when got the license. You can't expect the average person to know that. It wouldn't matter much in the long run since the Switch version is coming with a revised localization.
Like I said, they have improved on their translation craft. One of their most recent translations, Jack Jeanne, is really good and I never had a time where it felt off or "bad" so I'm being cautiously optimistic about the Switch translation. Sometimes you need to trust the good side of your gut and a little knowledge on your side.

She/Her | Currently cleaning: N/ATIL of Monster Traveler, a Mons RPG made by Taito that was only released in Japan. It has you explore a star system alongside monsters called Cosmon (short for Cosmic Monsters) in search of the secret to how they once communicated with the ancients, while avoiding the local bad guy team Dogma Darks.
I also found a walkthrough for it! https://www.imasaragame.com/monstertraveler/
EDIT: Ooh, apparently the game's title is actually closer to Mon★Star Traveler as a pun.

The Protomen enhanced my life.

I don't remember that boss, oddly. What's your party right now? Depending on what classes you have you might have access to some extra heal and regen spells.
