No, because the mechanism I described increases the number of people in the Tree exponentially over time. New family members will only speed up the snowball effect; we reached critical mass with the very first adoption.
To clarify: what I'm saying is that, given enough time, everyone on Earth will be related to Hopey due to the adopted tropers giving Hopey new in-laws and grandchildren via "standard" familial means, and then those progeny infesting the next generation, et cetera, until total assimilation occurs.
tl;dr Hopey is coming for your future grandkids.

Smile for me!If Hopey adopts Bob, and Bob marries Alice, does Hopey become Alice's adoptive in-law?
If so, the Tree may have already passed the point where it no longer needs outside intervention to subsume all mankind.
Well, now I have a girlfriend, who is also my mother-sister.
Which makes me my own step-dad. And my own brother-in-law.
This makes everyone their own sibling-in-law and makes everyone each other's siblings-in-law.
Which means that I think I've accidentally the world.
Also, the Hopey Tree is sapient. Just putting it out there. I don't adopt, it adopts through me. I am merely a vessel for its inclinations.

I'm pretty sure the Hopey Tree started way back, when people were still unaware I was a dangerous psycho. Actually, i wonder if it wasn't born in a chat between us, darkclaw and deathpigeon...
Look upon my R.O.U.S., ye mighty, and despair!Since the fourth dimension is time, aren't we already seeing it?

How did this thing get started, anyway? Is it just an effect of Hopey's form of schizophrenia, or what?
