The thing is that the movie is definitely aiming for more of a Lord of the Rings esque Epic Movie than a Star Wars type blockbuster. The story slows down for world building and tone building, there are a large cast of characters with only a small impact on the plot and the social and political impact of the story is explored.
Lord of the Rings was a big long journey with like a dozen main characters that branched off into three different, highly separated storylines going at once (Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, Aragorn/Gimli/Legolas).
This story just... doesn't feel like it has as many things going on? I guess that's because Lord of the Rings was three movies that just blends into one thing whereas this is one movie, so that might not be fair.
I finally rewatched MOS to prepare for the Director's Cut of Batman Versus Superman.
Gotta say that MOS is actually underrated. There's definitely some sketchy scenes but even though it's not faithful to comic Superman, I like this portrayal of Superman as this lonely but miserable guy that feels duty-bound to help people despite not wanting to. He's just emotionally unprepared to be in this role. And you can see it every time that people start worshipping him in the theatrical cut of Batman Versus Superman. He's uncomfortable in being seen as a deity because all he wants to do is be normal.
It definitely wasn't executed perfectly but the film's a lot more ambitious than the regular Marvel film. It's trying to create a lot of depth for Superman. I think the largest problem though is that it's trying to create depth of one concept(and it's a concept that many fans don't agree with) but it doesn't try to flesh out Superman's other characteristics. MOS doesn't allow Clark Kent to breathe enough.
I kind of agree with this assessment. It's far from perfect, but I really appreciate a lot of its ideas and what it's trying to do with the character. I think the idea of Clark as this sensitive, conflicted man trying to help the world and being both uncomfortable and not fully equipped to be in that role to be a very interesting interpretation of the character that deserves to be given a chance to be explored in more detail elsewhere.
"but it doesn't try to flesh out Superman's other characteristics."
Is the biggest sin of both movies, since it try to create deep to superman, it relegate chararter to him, and while I dislike marvel, they have intersting side chararters(well most of the time anyway).
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Well I saw the movie again yesterday, and here is some of my thoughs.
-I dont know but aparenly the actor who did KGB is the same who did a hydra thug in Winter Soldier, who know, right?
-I have to said, Lex Latin america dub is DELIGHTFULLY narmy, I just love is overeaction when he talk to superman, at the same time I LOVE superman angry, he is kinda scary.
-I kinda like this fight between the two is, rought and quite brutal.
-Ok, looking the Martha scene....I think a big problem is that is TOO suden, it dosent really lay time to sit the revelation, Batman just stand back and suddenly help Clark, without a moment to said "Im wrong", also I most ask...when he take is armor? he just show up in his plane without it, it feel weird.
-Ok, Luthor naming ancient abomination Doomsday is......is silly, sometimes code name are stupid for a reason, also ¿the ship implies Kryptinan consuel use doomsday before?.
-So, Doomsday remenber Kal El? I wish he could talk, it would make him more of a chararter...kinda, also I love how Diana take all the moment agains Doomsday, but it leave me thinking a little bit: here she show a blood knight streak you dont see in her movie, what happen? also how much she can take? she have trouble with machine gun in first World war but here she take Doomsday face blast and kick to the chest....so what is the deal?.
-I Kinda like Gadot expression when she saw Lois taking Clark coprse, it make you think she is remenbering Steve own death.
-So, I still think Luthor is going to fuse Braniac or something like that, whatever your opinion of this luthor are, that is were is arc is going for.
-You know, seeing the funeral and knowing what happen to Sydner daughter is....is really hard, damn this is harsher in hindsight.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
Remember the first X-Man film where Wolverine criticizes the black spandex-ish looking suits and Cyclops or someone dryly remarks 'Would you have preferred yellow?'. Basically. Stuff like that. Other examples on the Noland side of things would probably include Catwoman never calling herself that despite obviously having a cat motif going on.
Basically, things like films ignores the Superhero code name despite all logic pointing to it otherwise name or pokes fun at common superhero tropes/ideals.
That's a bit of a stretch. Most superhero movies don't like using codenames. We have a whole trope for it.

Most of that happen in what I consider the pre extended universe who start with first Spiderman movie to iron man 1 or the last nolan movie.
In Many way this is inevitable, not matter how Many silliness cómic movies embrace, they cant really use all of it, somethings are just to silly.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"

That recent? Huh. I thought I was way later to the party than I actually was. I guess I was figuring 2015.
