I've liked most of the DC animated films (even the ones that seem to get a lot of hate, like The Killing Joke) but Warworld is one of the few exceptions. The first story is okay- if a bit cliche, but the second is virtually unwatchable and the third is only marginally better. Even after the big plot twist tying all three stories together is revealed, it didn't invest me like it should've. Also underwhelmed by the ending- won't say any more than that to avoid spoilers.
Part of it might've been expectations. I went in expecting a straightforward superhero movie and instead got a western, a Conan-esque giant monster fight and a 50s b-movie, with a bit of The Matrix at the end. And then only in the last 10 minutes do we get the superheroes in their familiar forms. It was kind of a mess.
Also, the animation outside the action scenes was really bare bones. One shot late in the film felt like something you'd see on a Filmation show- no movement, stock expression that undermined any potential emotion in the moment.

This movie basically showcased that only good adaptation of Mongul & the Warworld was the versions we saw in Young Justice.
Because this movie was just garbage from start to finish. I was genuinely excited about these new movies after the New 52 movies couldn't stop shitting the bed with almost every movie.
For starters, Why the hell did WW allow those parents to die and only save the little girl? Was she planning to taking her back to Thermascyra to re-educate her or something? Also why was Jonah Hex made to be the villain in her little elseworlds tale when he's typically an Anti-hero? They couldn't have picked... Anyone from her rogues gallery?
And yeah, the 2nd was pretty much unwatchable, not gonna lose more braincells trying to remember the plot.
Superman's one was actually okay because it finally made a semblance of a connection to the title of the damn movie. Plus a cliché twilight zone parody is always appreciated (it also helps that I'm watching My Adventures With Superman)
I want to like this new universe because I've definitely been enjoying the previous films but if there's anything I hate more than a laughably bad film (JL Dark Apok War) it's a boring film like this one. Hopefully this is the last time I feel that way.
One thing I do not miss about the New 52 films is how much of a gobber it made Hal.
These movies were pretty much a nonstop trash fest for Hal.
And even if you aren't a Hal fan keep in mind he was the only GL in these films. So instead of bringing anyone else and portraying them nicely, our only GL rep was just there so he can be the but of the joke.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Agree and tbh it never really made much sense too. Hal can be a lot of things when it comes to flaws but hilariously arrogant to the point where the solution is to make him the butt of the joke feels like one of the writers the read comic where Hal punches Batman and decided to take revenge in a really weird & stupid way.
Or they confused him with Guy Gardener.
And even Guy probably gets more respect than that.
One Strip! One Strip!I think they were just mocking him on a meta level for the Ryan Reynolds movie bombing. The LEGO Movie did the same thing.
If that's the case, I dread the Flash franchise having to go through this for the next ten years or so.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThere's also DC Superhero Girls, where Hal is a dumbass blowhard so Jessica Cruz can lecture about how better she is than him.
The Star Sapphire episode was really bad. Carol Ferris was a bonafide yandere psychopath that Hal is terrified of, but we're supposed to feel bad for cause Hal...... broke up with her over a text.
Like Hal was legitimately afraid of her like someone from an abused relationship, Jess forces him to apologize to her.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."This probably isn't the place, but does DC superhero girls typically have plotlines that involve putting male heroes down in order to bring up the female ones? I don't watch it because it's just not my cup of tea...
Also I doubt that they'll trash on the Flash that much in the future thanks to this movie, there's already been enough of that in the CW show and the JL animated TV show where he's typically the comic relief, although the latter is still treated him with a little more respect.
Anyway, it still sucks that even in this new universe, a Green Lantern focused movie still sucks. They massacred my boy Jon Stewart.
No. It's a lighthearted show so everyone is fair game. It's just Hal got slotted into the Jerk Jock archetype to fit the highschool setting, which is also why they can sometimes be jerks too. They're teens.

Yeah that isn't really a common thing with other male characters. It's Just Hal himself whose a massive loser. Man Dc are vicious. He has one bad movie and they turn H in one of the most important characters in the verse under post crisis to a meme.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."From what I remember it had a habit early on of making the male heroes either laughably ineffectual or just straight up jerks.
Robin was reimagined into this snaggle-toothed little goblin child who constantly bullies Barbara and was an unworthy sidekick to Batman compared to Babs.
Superman was an arrogant dick who constantly showed up Kara and hogged all the attention from her.
Green Arrow was an over the top narcissistic thespian who constantly budded heads with Zatanna over who should be center of attention.
Which to note Kara and Zee could be as unpleasant personality-wise to Supes and GA, but they are intended to be the sympathetic party in their disputes with the latter 2.
Not to say it didn't improve at depicting the guys, the episode with Hawkman is a great episode, but a lot of the guys early on come across as total caricatures.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Is it wrong I want to wash my hands on the Tomorrowverse a few movies in after hearing about what happened in Warworld?

Troper Wall * DeviantArtI have just not been a fan of the Tomorrowverse for the most part. Like I did actually like the DCAMU, or at least the last few movies, but like I was hoping for the Tomorrowverse to be better but so far it is worse in my opinion and I can't put my finger on why.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYeah. Uh I'll credit that the DCAMU improved over time. This has had the opposite effect with man of tommorow still being its best. And everything else being either bad (Beware my power and Warworld) or mediocre (long Halloween)
Thought legion at least is decent. Wish Brainiac has a more impressive role but uh....

I made a page for Warworld here
