YKTTW Ideas Splurge

I had a load of ideas for YKTTW posts that I'm just not going to have the spare time to sit down and write all of, so instead I'm going to offload them here and anyone who fancies Getting Known off them can go ahead. If this is the wrong place for it, please tell me where the right place is (since no-one else has).

Most of these don't have many examples (some don't have any) - I will admit to not doing the dedicated research you get on some of the better YKTT Ws. The same few series will appear several times because that's just when I had the idea. I'm mostly just getting my ideas across. Laconics mentioned here probably aren't what you'd put in the YKTTW laconic, though.

—-

  • Fans Get The Last Word
Laconic: Whatever the critics say about something, it's the fans that determine whether it succeeds or not. Indexes: Unintended Reactions To This Index

  • Picking Up Chicks With A Tank
Laconic: When presented with advanced technology, a character immediately ponders how he can use it to get ladies. Example: Tucker (Red vs Blue)

  • Ponytail Of Awesome
Laconic: Guys with ponytails are often Badasses Examples: Omega Red (Marvel Comics), Wing Fanchu (H.I.V.E.) Other links: Rapunzel Hair.

  • Photorealistic Cloud Patterns
Laconic: Whenever characters refer to a pattern in the clouds, it will be depicted with as unrealistic levels of clarity so everyone can see. Index: Rule of Perception. Examples: The Simpsons, Mirrorstorm.

  • Law Of Fantasy Architecture
Laconic: The more beautiful the building structures, the quicker they collapse in a siege. Index: Laws and Formulas Examples: Minas Tirith (Lord Of The Rings)

  • Opposing Armies, Same Command
Laconic: Two enemy armies are in fact lead by the same people. Other links: Mission Control, Mission Control Is Off Its Meds Examples: Team Fortress 2, Red vs Blue.

  • Success=Failure
Laconic: Whether you succeed or you fail, you get the same consequences. Index: Index Failure Examples: Slender (it is implied that whether you find all the notes or not you still get killed by Slenderman), Super Paper Mario (in Ch. 2-4 when you have to guess between the real Merlee and the impostor Mimi, whichever one you choose you still get attacked by Mimi). Not just limited to games.

  • Artistic Licence: Guns
Variants: Infinite ammo, improbable range, improbable accuracy, unrealistic noise levels (particularly in stealth). Do not confuse with Artistic Licence – Gun Safety (potential Sister Trope?)

  • My Teammate Scares Me
Laconic: Characters are scared of the people on their own side, let alone the enemy. Examples: The Pyro (Team Fortress 2), Agent Maine/Sigma (Red vs Blue).

  • Life-Sustaining Macguffin
Laconic: Use of the Macguffin makes you live longer. Examples: The Fountain of Youth, The Devil Gene (Tekken).

  • Race To The Macguffin
Laconic: Lots of guys want the Macguffin, but only one can have it.

  • Macguffin Publicity Stunt
Laconic: I can use the attention this Macguffin is getting to make a name for myself!

  • The Captain's Bestest Friend
Laconic: A character has an unrealistic perception of how much their superior likes them. Example: Caboose (Red vs Blue)

  • Article Love
Laconic: Characters fall in love with an inanimate object.

  • Compacted Monster
Laconic: A monster is reduced to a smaller form, possibly for transport reasons. Other links: Make My Monster Grow (inversion) Examples: Elder Princess Shroob (Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time), Abyss (Marvel Vs Capcom 2) Not to be confused with Sealed Evil in a Can. Or Complete Monster, despite the similar name.

  • Technicolour Radiation
Laconic: Radioactive substances glow that bright visible colour that they don't do in real life. Index: Rule of Perception.

  • Death By Final Episode
Laconic: It's the last instalment, it doesn't matter who gets killed off. Other links: Anyone Can Die, Downer Ending, Sudden Downer Ending. The important thing here is that a lot of characters die in the last instalment outside the expected bounds of the series. Some are used to doing away with characters, but not this many in such a short space of time.

  • Insistent Title
Laconic: A character demands that he referred to by his title rather than his name. Other links: Maybe linked to Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep". If His Name Really Is "Barkeep" then things could get awkward. Examples: Dan Hibiki ('Dan-sensai') (Street Fighter), Harshak ('Vilest of the vile', 'cruelest of the cruel' etc) (Back To The Divide), Bishop Brennan (Father Ted).

  • Dead But Not Out
Laconic: Without coming back to life, a character continues to assist after their demise. Other links: Spirit Advisor. May be to do with Unfinished Business.

  • Hollywood Colourblindness
Laconic: Hollywood seems to have a very poor grasp of what colourblindness is actually like.

Do we need two threads for this?

I don't think we need any threads for this. If you want to start a YKTTW, do it. If not, don't try to get other people to do it for you.

Didn't we have an article at one point for trope ideas people were thinking about but didn't have the time or the details to make a YKTTW out of?

The Title Bin was for name proposals.

Yeah, we don't need to clone YKTTW with a version dedicated to unbaked ideas. Locking this.

Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty
