A thought occurs. Due to Meta-Knight's biology his uniform is going to be notably different in form. He'll have negotiated to keep the Mask, namely that it is a good piece of Armor and he isn't comfortable not wearing it. His Com Badge could be affixed on the bottom of his mask and with his Dimensional Cape banished he can have a semblance of the uniform on the rest of his body.
Yeah, it was brought up a while back in the signups. Let me get the link. Here ya go.
So which of those roles is most likely to end up as the equivalent of Red Shirt?
KLON L.A.: Klone Radio ''We play the songs that sound more like everyone else than anyone else!"That'd still be security, wouldn't it?
@Mini-RP: So, we doing it in quotes?
Well, of course there's going to be ensigns... right?

I'm game.
Not yet a firebender.
@Recon: Intelligence consists most of exchanging information between the ship and the Earth Alliance, so I don't know if a Recon character would be at home there.
I'm kinda sleepy, so I'll jump in the RP later today- after I post all these posts I wrote yesterday but didn't post. As a note, by Thursday the applications will close and we should begin.
He spared a quick glance over his shoulder and tugged at his sleeve. It felt strange to be wearing this uniform. Everything felt strange. Every few moments he would realise with another jolt that he was aboard the Einstein, and would be for the next few years...
He chanced another glance over his shoulder.
Whoops. Dat autocorrect...

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistAlright, I'm willing to give this mini R Ping thing a go. Tell me if my limited knowledge of Star Trek spaceships is wrong.
"I need to find something to do." Her voice was louder this time, echoing slightly off the metal walls. She stretched before walking back to the Main Bridge's direction. Maybe she could find Officer Rizzrack and bother him for a job.

After two days of living on this human vessel, that was the only real conclusion that Nen Yim could possibly draw about the Einstein. How could humans stand to travel on these ships, devoid of life and energy? The walls did not resonate with the soothing bass rhythm of a pumping heart and the dilating membranes that automatically assured the Shapers that all was well aboard ship. Instead, unfamiliar things whirred and buzzed and beeped and clicked and rattled in a grating symphony that ranged from discomforting to downright irritating. Like all human craft, the furniture and consoles were hard and angular rather than smooth and soft. She had even been forced to trade in her elaborately dyed silk tunic in favor of a "standard-issue" Alliance uniform while on duty, a clingy sort of suit unlike anything she had worn before.
Even so, she had still begun to adjust. Most Vong of her generation had already begun slowly acclimating to alien technology as their progressive leaders attempted to reopen links with neighbouring empires- even though the handful of crumbling old fanatics left in power denounced them as heretics. And that was how Nen Yim had found herself as the Chief Medical Officer aboard this human ship, crewed mostly by humans. She had already finished looking over the medical records of her crewmates; most of them had already submitted themselves for a brief preflight examination. Most- including the captain - had given her a slightly suspicious look. For many people, the Vong's invasion of the galaxy and almost conquering the human homeworld of Earth probably still resonated quite loudly in their minds. Even so, humans and Vong were not so different on the inside- they both had skeletons, and roughly analogous body parts, and even most organs in roughly the same places, however improbably that was.
They lacked the vast array of bioimplants that an average Vong possessed, of course, and none of them had the riotously elaborate network of tattoos that curled up and over her face and adorned her arms and legs. Unconsciously, she twitched her own main implant, a replacement hand; an exquisitely engineered cephalopod bred to look exactly like a Yuuzhan Vong's own hand but concealing a wide variety of bladelike claws for surgery.
Several decks below the bridge was the medical bay, a pristine and sterile bay of beds, quarantine wards, and a huge variety of medical tools and scanners- both human and Vong in origin. Not that the vast array of humans and occasional alien would ever want to pick up a Vong tool, of course, but Nen Yim would not be denied her caste's tools of the trade even if she was the only Vong for light-years around. She lightly stroked the oggzil perched on her shoulder, a specially bred organism that was intimately connected to the ship's communication system.
"Nen Yim reporting from the medical bay," she said, walking toward the turbolift that would take her up to the ship's bridge. "I understand that we have left your Alliance's zone of influence and are heading toward uncharted territory?"
Yeah, I got carried away. bite me

Whoops, I somehow managed to forget to add this thread to my watchlist!
I would join in with the mini RPing thing but... hm.
Also, quick question - I'd be correct in presuming that helmsmen would have a lot of downtime in scenes set on the ground (since they're not needed), right? What should I do during those periods?
Also also, I liked how Jim picked up on the fact that we've got three guys who are great flyers.
Locking you up on radar since '09Well, Sulu went on away missions sometimes, right? Heck, maybe they'd just bring Atton along for, say, his skill at hacking stuff, or something. I don't think you guys are gonna be left out, don't worry.
Or... he could just stay up here. Socialize with the rest of the bridge crew. It'd be nice to actually get to know the people he'd be spending the next six years of his life with. He looked out the window.
"Nice view, huh." he said to no one in particular.
Hey, it's not bad. It's just as good as the rest of them. After all, it's not like there's any prizes for writing a whole page worth of text. Which is fine too, there's really no right or wrong way to write a RP post.

UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI@Strato: Just so you know, if we're keeping most of the Star Trek tech, then our ship's FTL wouldn't be an A to B "jump", but rather a simple "warp speed" that ranges from 1 to... well, that depends on what era we're going with.* TOS had the upper limit Federation ships could go at as around 6 if I remember correctly. TNG, DS 9, and Voyager had the limit at around 9 I think. Going too fast can make the engines overload and the ship start to break apart from inertial stress.* I only bring it up because your post seems to imply the former, so I just wanted to clarify.
"@Recon: Intelligence consists most of exchanging information between the ship and the Earth Alliance, so I don't know if a Recon character would be at home there."
Well, I intend to play Raz less like a desk jockey and more like a secret agent/super spy kind of position. Since SIB clearly can do their own operations in person, it wouldn't make sense for the ship not to take advantage of having SIB members on board.
Besides, who ever said that anybody in a given position had to be good at only that kind of work?
@Flanker: It's not like only the people who are involved in the primary thing going on would be allowed to post; and we have enough players that it would be pretty impractical to take everyone on every single away mission. In fact, I intend to try and play Jim in character and send the people who make sense for the job at hand.
So the easiest thing to do in the meantime would be interact with the other people who didn't go on the away missions, and do some character development.
"... there's really no right or wrong way to write a RP post."
Some people would beg to differ... After all, you could metagame and autohit and ghost and completely misunderstand what's happening in the RP/where characters are located.
But other than that, yeah. It doesn't really matter if your post is long or short, an intelligent philosophical debate or a simple action.
"Yes doctor, we just left Alliance space about five minutes ago" Jim answered, then awaited responses.

Wait a sec. Raz from Psychonauts?
