RP Thread

Discussion Thread

Welcome to Task Force, a cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk law enforcement interest check/signup/world build RP inspired by Japan's Ghost in the Shell series. But don't worry, I'll blend in other cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk works out there.

This is another attempt for me to get my GM ball rolling if I can.

No title for either the said task force I plan to use. Suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

The usual rules apply such as no godmodding and everything.

Philippine LE/intelligence agency references:

NBI.

Philippine National Police.

PDEA.

PCG.

NICA.

NCTAG. (The task force will be under this group for story purposes).

The Naval Intelligence and Security Force is the Philippine Navy's version of NCIS. The Intelligence Security Group is the main intel agency of the Philippine Army. The 300th Air Intelligence and Security Group is most likely the intel agency of the Philippine Air Force. The Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines is an intel agency that works for the entire AFP.

These are the main LE/intel agencies, but there are a few more. Although I didn't put them here since they aren't that significant.

For Philippine immigration stuff. Hopefully these help in creating said character.

Philippine visa policy.

Philippine citizenship acquisition.

PR visa.

For immigrants.

For dual nationals.

Alien Certificate of Registration I-Card.

Immigrant FAQ.

Petition to PR residency for foreigners.

Non-officer recruitment requirements to the PNP.

NBI requirements.

Basic PDEA qualifications.

Non-officer recruitment to Philippine Army.

Non-officer recruitment to Philippine Navy, though it has info on officer recruitment too.

Non-officer recruitment to the Philippine Air Force, same as above.

Non-officer recruitment to the Philippine Marine Corp, same.

The year is 2038. It's been six years after the Philippines has been badly affected by the Asian War that had stretched from East Asia, starting from the Japanese archipelago and Korean Peninsula, all the way to parts of South and Southeast Asia with parts of Oceania and some of the islands in the Pacific region. Thanks to massive reconstruction efforts, the Philippines has managed to emerge once again as a growing Tiger Cub Economy nation, coupled with the Bamboo Network system. Meanwhile, the rest of the world continues to recover from World War III, which first started in Europe before the fighting went to the Americas.

But with this rise comes the problem with terrorism and high-risk crimes in post-Asian War Philippines. Hackers, anarchists, extreme nationalists, criminals and terrorists of different ideologies including anti-cyberization and pro-Communist factions run rampant that it brings a threat to the growing Philippine economy with refugees taking refuge in the country thanks to the two wars. To solve this problem, the Philippine government has issued an order to the National Counter-Terrorism Action Group to create and lead a special task force made up of personnel recruited from the Philippine National Police to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and to the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency to solve cases of utmost national interest and when other Philippine LE/military/intelligence agencies require their assistance. The president has also given the order to let NCTAG headhunt for legal foreign permanent residents and dual nationals who have prior experience in the law enforcement/military/intelligence community.

This unusual move was due to concerns that the police and the National Bureau of Investigation will have resource problems when asked to tackle these cases, as well as with concerns that rogue law enforcement/military personnel would hamper any case that would implicate them, which made the NCTAG create the task force. By doing so, it would allow these agencies to take on cases that do not require a lot of time and manpower, leaving them to concentrate on internal security matters. This allows the task force to investigate cases that involve corruption or rogue government personnel and officials.

Being equipped and led by the best from the ranks of the Philippine security forces, this task force is the country's best hope in regaining its Tiger Cub Economy status. The task force is based at Bonifacio Global City, a rising city that has first world standards with locals and foreigners living together to enjoy the fruits of the growing economy. However, a dark conspiracy is starting to emerge from the ground up. And it may have ties as to why the country was involved in the Asian War.

This looks interesting, and you can probably count me in, but before I start creating my character I want to know, what do you mean by cyborgs? Like half human half robot, or humans with some cybernetic augments, or full out robots with human brains?

Just individuals with augmentations. Kinda like some of the GITS characters having prosthetic arms/legs.

Okay (sorry if not a lot of work is put into this, but I was tired while writing this.)

  • Name: Mathew Custard
  • Appearance: Blond hair with blue eyes, obviously of German descent. Looks fairly average for a person of his age. 5'10", about 160lbs. Normally wears a special set of high-tech sunglasses everywhere he goes.
  • Age: 35
  • Citizenship: besides having a Filipino citizenship he also use to have an American citizenship
  • Background: Before being deported from America for "Reasons" He was an important member of the CIA, he was also a very highly respected hacker for the government.
  • skills: Is very good at gathering intelligence, along with hacking skills that are so good he boasts he can hack into anything. He can hold his own in a firefight, but without back-up probably won't be able to last very long.
  • status: Fully human, and happy that way.

I need to ask though for clarification.

Did he drop his American citizenship? And he's naturalized?

dropped American Citizenship, Naturalized. grin

Thanks. That reminds me of Debito Arudou aka David Christopher Aldwinckle, the American-Japanese human rights activist.

Now here's mine. A roster list will be up soon.

  • Name: Police Senior Inspector Mark Chen
  • Appearance: Here, except without the freckles.
  • Age: 28.
  • Citizenship: Filipino (Of Chinese descent).
  • Background: Mark Chen is the youngest son with two older sisters and two older brothers. His father is a known businessman who controls a conglomerate ranging from shipping to retail, fast food and vehicle dealerships. However, Mark disappeared after he graduated from college in the United States, baffling most of his family/friends to where he went to. He later resurfaced as a commissioned officer with the rank of Police Inspector. Because he was the first Chinese-Filipino to be a PNP officer with the rank of P Insp., he became the darling of the PNP in the organization's attempts to recruit Filipinos of various ethnic origins to join the police service. He joined up with the Special Action Force, the PNP's elite anti-crime/terrorist unit before he was promoted to P S/Insp., as well as leading a section of the SAF's 1st Battalion. A SAF-led raid to arrest members of True Anonymous for criminal/terrorist activities in Philippine soil turned to a disaster when SAF teams were ambushed by small arms fire and hackers messing with their electronic equipment, including comms. Leading to accusations from the media and certain high-ranking PNP officials that he was one of the few to be blamed for the failed raid, Mark got angry and fired back at his accusers before he tendered his resignation from the unit. Later on, someone from the NCTAG offered him a chance to lead the organization's new elite anti-crime/terrorist unit, which was currently being formed.
  • Skills: Thanks to his education at the Philippine National Police Academy, P S/Insp. Mark Chen is familiar with Philippine criminal law, as well as the inner working of the PNP. Due to his posting in the Special Action Force, he is also familiar with small arms, guerrilla warfare, CQC/martial arts and commando tactics. He also has experience leading SAF teams during his time with the unit, leading to his leadership skills. Mark also drives vehicles such as sedans, vans and motorcycles. He is trilingual, able to speak Tagalog, English and Hokkien with limited Mandarin.
  • Status: Human.
  • Comments: Despite being calm at all times, Mark is haunted by the disastrous raid from time to time. He swears to make True Anonymous pay for the failed raid.

I realize that the task force has no Aramaki figure to lead them. At least in the administrative level:

Do note that he's a significant NPC, which is the reason why I have his profile here. I plan to have another character to use if and when the time is right.

  • Name: Police Director Roberto Sanchez
  • Appearance: I'm basing him on this particular senator.
  • Age: Just turned 50.
  • Citizenship: Filipino.
  • Background: A career officer with the Philippine National Police, he started as a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy with the rank of Police Inspector in his late 20s, rising through the ranks. His first job was an officer with the PNP's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. Later on, he had been appointed as the head of the National Operations Center. His last position prior to leading the task force is a commanding officer position with the Police Security and Protection Group.
  • Skills: His administrative skills in the PNP is the main reason why the NCTAG chose him to serve the task force as its administrative head, serving to liaise with Philippine and international law enforcement agencies. He is also a skilled negotiator from his time with the PNP. He is bilingual, able to speak in English and Tagalog fluently.
  • Status: He publicly states that he's human, but rumors abound that he has a prosthetic limb in his body somewhere.
  • Comments: He's the Aramaki figure of the task force.

Just an additional note I feel that I have to point out:

Any other task force personnel that would interact with you guys (include me) will be NPCs, including any potential koma-like machines like the Tachi/Uchi/Rojikomas.

Thanks, randomtropeloser.

I hope I can generate a lot of interests since I've been rewatching a few cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk classics with a few new ones.

Will he have a prosthetic limb with a hidden weapon?

Depends on what I do. One of my favorite ideas right now is grappling hook hands. Like, just being able to have like a long wire between your hands and wrists.

That would be interesting.

Haven't heard of that before.

*raises hand*

I have a question: Is "partially cyberized" similar to The Major? I was thinking of making a character like her, just...not as action-y.

Depends on the extent.

The Major, as far as I know, was full cyborg except for her brain and spinal cord.

is everyone allowed one character or can we make a second? (possibly to serve as some sort of back-up squad.)

For now, just one.

If we make progress, a second character can be permitted as long as it doesn't wear you out.

Got someone in mind?

Just a few ideas floating around in my head right now, but the idea of possibly having back-up that could move in to rescue (or replace.) our current characters if captured. (or killed.)

Okay.

Looks like this thread is popular than my crossover RP based on Namco x Capcom and Project x Zone. tongue
