Well I assume that FMA alchemy is similar to what mages can do, only more "scientific", which just makes them mages anyways. I guess I'm asking about both FMA alchemy and alchemy in general such as distilling magical aspects and essence in a usable and/or physical form.

Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing- Wernher von Braun Until proven otherwise, Everything is RelevantFMA Alchemy would be mage stuff, although kind of have to restrict it to the materal does not change but its shape does...
AKA A sword made from a stone would be a stone sword, simply to prevent brokeness, because while not RAW power, the versitility of making items on the spot can ruin alot of plots unless things are done... Sorry.
Alchemy Alchemy would be essentaly chemistry, only with magic....
What can we do to this metal if we use mana to temper it, or infuse it with mana.... Would this explode when mixed with mana?
Those kinds of questions. :)
Yeah mainly questions about alchemy alchemy since I'm not intending for my character to be a mage. Some things I'm wondering about are:
1.What processes are involved in breaking down items or imbuing them with magical properties or elemental attributes.
2.Would it be possible to crystallize aspects/elements in crystals or specially made glass spheres. Of course these crystals are not like the magitech batteries as they don't store and release mana, but just contain energetic elemental properties.
3.Can these crystals be use offensively, like throwing an ice shard on the ground to cause ice spikes to sprout from the ground. I ask cause I could have a cylinder attached to the arm of the character to fire these crystals when loaded.
Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing- Wernher von Braun Until proven otherwise, Everything is Relevant1) Basic chemistry stuff, flasks, beakers, burners, that kind of thing.
2) Kind of, see Mana's point is its suposed to be kind of a raw formless energy, unstable, unpredictable, alien, but able to be directed into almost any thing by some one who can control it, this is why it is hard to find in nature, most of it naturaly becomes other things...
So while you could not really crystilize the aspects, what you could do is infuse the crystal object you want with mana and a catalyst, difrent crystal or diffrent catalyst for diffrent effects, and have it so that when it breaks, the catalyst rapidly uses the mana and causes the crystal whatever to grow, become ice, fire, that kind of thing.
TL:DR Funny acting chemical reactions are how it would happen, but it easily could.
3) See two, of course something like that could be used offensivly.

So stuff like sulfur for fire, powdered quartz and silver for ice (or something akin to that), and magnetic flakes for electricity as a catalyst right?
Also another thing, or maybe two. Since my character would have cybernetic arms made for utilizing crystals, can it use the crystal's element in a more directed attack. Like with a fire crystal it can either shoot the crystal or use that energy as a flame thrower or heat beam.
Also, how advanced is railgun tech. Is it possible to have a miniaturized railgun that fires metal with slightly greater force than a hangun or am I better off with a plasma/laser weapon?

Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing- Wernher von Braun Until proven otherwise, Everything is RelevantI am a strong beliver in kenetic weapons being better then energy weapons for multiple physics reasons, but I am not going to make any type "better" here per say since we have magic, in other words railguns are fine.
As for using the crystals directly, it would be kind of like shaping an explosion, I dont think you could do things like coating it.... well outside of ice, but definatly elemental punches and the like. :)
This discussion about exploding crystals reminds me of orantium.
...Wait, this is the signups, not the discussion... Woops.

And it's so easy when you're evil... This is the life for me, the Devil tips his hat to me...And here we go, posting in my character late, like last time... Here goes.
Name: Erwin Anso, a.k.a "The Trashman"
Weapon: Whatever he can kludge up.
Bio:
At day, he's just an humble trashman, cleaning up the streets of the city.
At night, he's taking care of another type of trash: Murderers, drug dealers, rapists... Once he has collected the small junk, he eliminates the large ones.
On the job, he happens to stumble a lot of different things: You have no idea what some people can throw away. And as the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure... And to his eyes, a lot of things are potential treasures. A broken gun here ? A fine source of spare parts. A dropped metal sheet there? What a fine potential piece of armor.
Well this took alot longer to write up than I thought
Name: James Cartwright
Age:28
Race: Human
Class: Alchemist, Engineer
City: Wall street
Physical description: Like this
along with that carbon fiber backpack.
weapon/artifacts: From the elbow down, both his arms have been replaced with robotic limbs (the exoskeleton
beneath the armor
plating) that are modular in design and capable of being a multi-tool. His right arm has a rail gun on top that fires 6.8mm metal rounds with each clip holding 35 rounds and inside is a specially made alchemist cylinder that fires the magic crystals he creates through his palm. His left arm houses scanners and most of his tools along with a magitech battery that powers a telekinetic module that was salvaged from a construction droid which lets him grab, lift, or operate things from a distance. Other than that he carries a variety of crystals with different effect along with some miscellaneous items inside his backpack.
short bio: James hold somewhat a grudge against the CDZ as he once used to have a steady job in a factory, but was caught in the crossfire between two companies when an assembling machine was sabotaged. The accident cost him his arms and because of the companies cheap insurance policy, his replacement limbs were junk and gave them an excuse to fire him on the spot. After building a decent pair of arms (which took alot longer than was supposed to), he decided to move to wall street and find jobs where at least he wouldn't be treated like garbage.

Group is currently in a Bar in Vegas, getting a mission to find and destroy a box without opening it
Edit : Disclaimer Added.
As an example, the first plot : trying to chase down techno-vikings, with a party including a magical girl, and a super hero trashman... yea sorry about the tone shift, I hope any one who still wishes to join, or has joined still enjoys themselves

Oh, okay.
Thought up one!
Name: Molly.
Age: 17
Race: Angel
Class: Mage
City:
Physical Description: Here.
Mana storage things: She stores mana in the purple gem accessories on her boot stockings and long gloves.
Power: Barrier creation, the size and strength depend on how mana is used, like she could make a small but strong barrier that uses a lot of mana. Control over barrier shape, she could make it more pointy or make them go inward. She uses hand to hand combat to use her barriers creatively.
Weakness: She cant do things like fire lasers with her magic, so she relies on waiting for others to attack her to repel it back at them. Her barriers only surround her and the amount of mana she uses effects how big, strong, and how far from her they are.
Bio: Molly looks like a cold, bitter person from how stays in her corner and such, but under that barrier she is shy and sweet. She enjoys things like music and at her home once in a while plays her violin as a hobby.

LOVE IS STORED IN THE AXOLOTL!

Wouldn't you character be killed by any strong magnetic device or, just spitballing, an X-ray scanner?
Stop caring and embrace nullness.
