only the 5th game in the series has been released in america, but it holds up on its own so you dont really need the context of the other ones
and yes it is an srpg but a bit more freeform than the likes of fire emblem and such.
and it is VERY story heavy. if youre not in it for story then you prolly shouldnt play it
The whole series takes place in an alternate Steampunk early-1900s, with the upcoming Shin taking place in the 1940s. Also there's Dating Sim elements.
Is it like a thing where each game has different cast or same characters in every game over and over despite the said dating sim aspects?

/ 2 shares the same cast as 1 while adding new characters, while 3 only shares Ichiro (The Main Protagnist) and has an entirely new cast of characters, though characters from both 1 and 2 still cameo. 4 combines the two rosters.

From those three links, I can confirm that Kamiyama's Accidental Pervert antics will be included in the game. Also, the main storyline and sub-events have full voice acting. You can also switch characters in the game as opposed to the previous turn-based elements. In Chapter 4, Kamiyama and Azami will have to reunite with the others during the battle parts.
