I mean I'd be surprised if the fact that they're all still alive just kidnapped/brainwashed/in suspended animation wasn't the twist of the game.
Especially the suspended animation one, because then that would be an excuse for them all to look the same.

I hope there's a storyline choice in Shin Sakura Wars where you can discuss about the past Combat Divisions and you get to choose who did Ichiro Ogami (The protagonist of the 1st four games) hooked up with and might get a picture of Ichiro and his chosen partner.
It can be frame like an interview where Sumire Kanzaki(who retired before the original Combat Divisions were eliminated during the Great War) is talking with Seijuro Kamiyama(the protagonist of Shin Sakura Wars) about the war and who Ichiro was. And then the player gets ask over who was Ichiro's wife and depending on the player's choice, Sumire might reminisce about her old teammates, what she like and dislike about them and thought what a great couple she and Ichiro make. For a tearjerker, if the player choose it was Sumire, the latter might make some witty remarks about how she forgot her husband at her age, before telling the player she still loves and misses her husband and regrets she couldn't be there with him in his final moments.
I wonder what Kubo's new design for Sumire would look like...?
And also, if some of the original Revues members were actually killed, maybe there would be Video Wills left for Kamiyama and the new Imperial Combat Revue to listen to.

Just one day ago in Japan, Sega posted a Seganama livestream interview with Toshihiro Nagoshi (in Japanese of course) on YouTube; in the second half, he talks about Sakura Wars and some interesting facts in the game, including Sumire Kanzaki's involvement. Unfortunately, it's not subtitled.
In that interview, Nagoshi admitted the reveal regarding Sumire was an unintentional mistake on his part and he wasnít familiar with the series. The current information about this game is just 1/10 of it. More details of the game will come over the next few months and will be added to the trope page.
And another update to this post (May 2): the longer version of the Famitsu interview has just been posted.

Project Sakura Wars Uses Sonic Seriesí Hedgehog Engine & Know-how From Yakuza Series
RE: Project Sakura Wars being developed by Sonic Team:
Sonic Team doing a non-Sonic game? That's unexpected...
Or at least, that's what I would be saying if I didn't end up reminding myself that they also do Puyo Puyo.
Still a surprise to see them doing something that isn't Sonic or Puyo Puyo. Last time that happened was Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP.
And Siliconera has posted the second half of the translated Famitsu interview, which includes how they made battles easier to play, as well as having the protagonist (in this case, it's Kamiyama) speak, and so on.
So, to restart the thread, Shin Sakura Wars came in 5th place on Famitsu's most wanted games list.
Crossover with Langrisser mobile.
So I read the background for the new game.
Wow. So it was a Total Party Wipe for all three combat reviews (barring Sumire) huh?
I mean, when even the loli's die, you know your enemy is hard core. No wonder the new one is damn ninja now.
Gotta make sure everybody can pull their own weight.
Yeah, but some of these characters may turn out to be alive when we get closer to the game's release.
And like I said, with the death of Daisuke Gori, maybe Yokihiko will be recast or die offscreen. If we go by the main game, which is set in 1940, and Ikki Yonedaís birthday (April 1, 1861), he will be 79 years old by the time Kamiyama arrives in Tokyo. So itís possible he may have survived the events of the Great Demon War.
Also, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the game begins as well as its Action Prologue and character introductions in full.

And now, Project Sakura Wars is ranked #3 on Famitsu's Most Wanted Games chart; that means it's at the top for Sega titles.
To add to it, I'm thinking about doing some Laconics for the games themselves.

So, you guys think that Shin Sakura Wars will get a showing at E3? Because I do.
Maybe on one of the side stages
Yep, Iím also hoping that the game will be at E3. If not, it might be at the Tokyo Game Show.
oh it'll definitely be at the TGS
Hereís the upcoming announcement stream from Sega if anyone is interested. Itís set to air on June 26 at 20:30 JST. It will be presented by Seijuro's VA Yohei Azakami and Misuzu Araki and will feature producer Tetsu Katano.
Also, in case you may not know from the recent copyright information regarding the series, Sega has been the sole owner of the franchise since 2017.

Project Sakura Wars first gameplay; Sumire, Kaoru, Komachi, Reiji, and more detailed
I want to romance the secretary
And why am I not surprised the merchant is from osaka
Kaoru and Komachi are cute, Reiji looks cool, and Sumire is more attractive than I expected her to be.
Project Sakura Wars details first chapter story
I assume that this is the boxart.◊
Would it be okay to replace the current page image for Shin Sakura Wars with this, or would that be jumping the gun?
Alright, I did it. Hope it doesn't cause any issues.
Can anybody sum up for me what exactly IS Sakura Wars?
Like I think I keep seeing characters from it in either Sega or Capcom crossover games(can't remember which; think Sega?), but it is still on going series apparently? Have any of the previous entries been released outside of Japan? Is it like story heavy or gameplay heavy or what? What it is about in general? I'm under impression it might or might not be srpg?
