Today wasn't a good day for Inspector Ryotaro Dojima of the Yasoinaba Police Station.

He and a few officers, uniformed and plainclothes alike, were called in after a witness reported in via 110 phone call that a body was found dangling on a TV antenna. All in all, it was a bad day for everyone in the force since they didn't know what happened to Mayumi Yamano.

"Dammit. And now we know what happened to her."

Ryotaro noted that the uniformed officers allowed two white vehicles to get in the cordoned streets near the house where Identification Division officers were still checking out the crime scenes. The veteran officer saw that the vehicles consisted of a 2011 Kia Grand Carnival Si minivan and a 2011 Dodge Journey R/T SUV. They were in RHD configuration and sported Tochigi-registered white and green license plates.

Who're they?

The detective saw several people emerge from the vehicles after they were parked on the side of the road, revealing East Asian men and women wearing white clothing ranging from their windbreakers to ballcaps and boots. They were busy speaking to uniformed and identification officers after they were shown their IDs.

So it's Tochigi 402 52-89 and Tochigi 300 56-77. Better ask Adachi to run the plates.

What surprised Ryotaro later on was the presence of a 2011 Proton Inspira 2.0P sedan parking in front of the parked SUV. Unlike the other two vehicles, the Inspira sported Utsunomiya-based license plates. In addition, it was also seen in RHD configuration.

On second thought, better include Utsunomiya 509 44-21 in with the license plate checking with that sedan over there.

But something else bothered Ryotaro. He noted that all three white vehicles had a weird insignia, which consisted of a wreath with bird wings and a star with an eye at the center.◊

What agency are they from? Are they with the Police Bureau or something?

"Dojima-san!"

Ryotaro turned around to see Adachi was already next to him after his initial battle with vomiting. The veteran officer didn't know what to do, considering that it was his partner's first major crime scene after the latter had been sent off with various minor problems such as chasing cats and dealing with marital spats between a few couples here and there.

"Glad to see you're fine at least." Ryotaro told his partner, being a bit sarcastic as he was still upset with Adachi acting like he's got PTSD.

Adachi nodded before he asked Ryotaro. "Um, who are those guys and what are they doing with our crime scene?"

"Allow us to introduce ourselves then."

Ryotaro and Adachi saw two East Asian teenagers come out of the parked Inspira 2.0P. The former noted that they weren't wearing the same white clothes. Instead, they had zipped up black windbreakers with hoodies, jeans and combat boots. One of them wore a black ballcap on.

"Adachi," Ryotaro whispered to his partner. "Get someone from the station's Security Section to run a background check on those plates."

"Understood, Dojima-san."

"And get an officer to help you."

Adachi nodded and ran off to speak with a uniformed officer.

"I'm Agent Jang Tae-sung." The first East Asian teenager introduced himself, showing his ID and badge with the same logo as found on the white vehicles. "And my partner here is Agent Mark Lau. We're from the Center."

Ryotaro couldn't tell if the two East Asian teens looked any different aside from having East Asian looks. He knew that Mark had a ballcap on to conceal his facial features. He knew that the Korean had a full crown haircut on.

"Your Japanese is pretty good." Ryotaro complimented Tae-sung before he introduced himself. "I'm Police Inspector Ryotaro Dojima." He turned around to see Adachi coming up from the rear. "And he's Police Assistant Inspector Tohru Adachi."

"Oh, hello." Adachi greeted the two Center agents before he whispered to Ryotaro, who nodded as he listened in.

"I see." Ryotaro murmured when he learned from his partner that the license plates were found to be legit, although the data they found were deemed to be classified that most of their public security detectives didn't have enough clearance to know more about the plates.

"So you guys are from the Center?" Ryotaro asked Tae-sung, confused after he saw them keep their IDs. He heard about the agency during his days as a uniformed officer when he was first stationed in Tokyo, said to be a law enforcement-type anti-paranormal/alien agency that existed long before he was born. At first, he thought that it was just someone's idea of a joke. But looking at the two agents and their IDs, he could tell that they were serious.

"Yes. We've been told that Yamano-san was killed in an unusual method that requires our presence."

"But we're not told that her death was caused by unnatural causes."

"That's true, but we have every reason to believe that's the case. Also, the Yamano family has requested to my superior that we take the case."

Ryotaro and Adachi didn't know if it means that the Center will be taking over the investigation.

"Have no fear, Inspector Dojima. The Center will not take over from the investigation. In fact, we'll be glad to work alongside the Yasoinaba police in this case and provide information on things that the police may not be able to gain access to."

Ryotaro nodded. "I understand."

"As we speak, your superiors should be getting a call from your police bureau about this matter."

Tae-sung stretched out his hand to shake hands with Ryotaro and Adachi. The two plainclothed officers reciprocated and shook hands.

"You think we should be accepting their help?" Adachi asked as the Center agents left them alone.

"I don't know." Ryotaro sighed. "I honestly don't know, but I think we'll be getting their assistance." His mobile phone then vibrated, which made him answer it.

"I just wish that I can move to Amami City when construction's complete." Adachi murmured as he continued to maintain vigilance while he watched the Center agents canvass the crime scene and examine the corpse the officers had brought down from the roof a while ago.

At the Center's secret location, a Caucasian woman with short black hair and wearing white clothing was behind her desk in her office, going through paperwork.

Known by everyone in the Center as the Mystery Organization Manager, MOM adjusted her earpiece when she received a transmission that a visitor was already on her way to see her.

"I see. Bring her in."

A woman wearing a black kimono and a hood, which covered her face from curious eyes, stepped inside MOM's office.

"I didn't expect to see you here." MOM said when she greeted the herald.

"I too did not expect myself to be here." The herald replied to MOM's query. "But something is amiss."

"You mean in Tokyo?"

The herald shook her head. "No. I sense something else is going on in the rural town of Yasoinaba. A dark force is at work there now."

MOM's Center-made electronic tablet *

received an incoming transmission.

"Go ahead." MOM and the herald noted that the transmission resulted in the creation of a holographic image from the tablet that read SOUND ONLY.

"It's me, MOM. I've managed to settle into Yasoinaba without incident." The Center agent reported back, being calm and punctual.

"Good. Anything happening there?"

"Just one thing I need to report."

"Go ahead."

"It's regarding the murder of Mayumi Yamano. She was found dead in an unusual way."

"I heard. Our agents on the ground confirmed that she wasn't killed by human means. In addition, we're getting new information that she was killed after being missing for a number of days." MOM then asked. "Any witnesses?"

"There is. The media interviewed her live on TV with her voice distorted to give her some anonymity. But I can tell from the sailor uniform she wore that she's a senior of mine in Yasogami High."

"Can you talk to her?"

"Negative. Last I heard, she's summoned to Yasoinaba Police Station for further questioning."

"I see."

"Can I request for authorization to retrieve her from the station?"

"Any reason why?"

"I have every reason to believe that her life is in danger."

MOM thought about her agent's request. It's always true that when a witness is known to the public for a crime, there will always be an effort done by the mastermind to have them killed off in order to protect themselves from exposure.

"All right. I'll send you the plan when I get Billy up here in my office. I'll have Tae-sung back you up. You know that if you're captured or killed that I'll deny ever knowing you."

"Understood, MOM."

A person wearing a white hoodie with black sweatpants and white running rubber shoes made his approach towards Yasoinaba Police Station. He had the hood worn over his head to conceal his face from the presence of surveillance cameras, should he be caught in their lenses.

Here it is.

The person looked at the four-storey building to see if there was a way to get inside without being detected by the police officers inside. This is because he didn't want a witness to see his face.

Now how do I get inside?

He took a moment to relax and concentrate when he closed his eyes for a few seconds before he opened them.

Perfect.

His world suddenly changed when he saw numerous people with different colors that highlighted their bodies. The police officers going in and out of the station were seen in blue with handcuffed suspects entering and leaving the station were seen in red. Civilians were not seen in a different color, which showed that they were neither friendlies nor enemies. The hooded figure didn't know what kind of vision was it, but he was told that it was a gift from the gods and that it should not be put to waste.

"There."

The person of interest, who was higlighted in gold, was located at the third floor of the Yasoinaba Police Station. The only thing he needed to figure out was how to get up.

Unless...

The hooded figure walked fast towards the rear part of the section while he crouched behind parked squad cars to avoid being seen by both officers and surveillance cameras. Once the coast was clear, he began to check the rear to see a fire escape staircase was free from obstacles or from any visible officers.

"Here goes."

He made a run for the fire escape staircase, going up until he was on the roof of the station. Using his special vision, he saw that his target was very near. In fact, the target's location was near the window of the building.

"Good thing I'm near the edge."

The hooded figure stepped very close to the edge on the western side of the station. He looked down to make sure no one was looking his way. Once the coast was clear, he stepped on the edge of the roof and turned around so that his back was facing the edge.

"Here I go."

Without second thought, the hooded figure walked one step backwards. This enabled him to fall off the edge. But not before he grabbed the window's stool tightly. Using his vision, he realized that the people in the room were not there.

"One more. Window below should be open."

He then removed his grip from the stool, allowing him to fall down and grab the next stool. It was a good thing that the window was open or he would have still fall, possibly to his death.

Using the special vision to check, the person of interest was inside the room. However, someone was highlighted to be in red. Which means he was an enemy.

Got to get in now.

The hooded figure got inside in time to see Saki being pushed back near the TV screen.

"LET HER GO!"

Reaching for a tube-shaped device on the right front pocket of his hoodie and pressed a red button on top, which distorted his voice so that no one with a good ear can figure out who he is.

"And why should I?"

The hooded figure was being challenged by a man in a dark blue suit, red tie and white dress shirt. He also had a sneer on his face with his hands on Saki's shoulders.

"DON'T MAKE ME REPEAT MYSELF!"

"I dare you to stop me!"

Just because the man could push Saki into the TV, the hooded figure jumped up on the interrogation room table and made a leap towards the suit-wearing man. Saki was able to get away since her captor was busy trying to get away from being attacked by the hooded figure when pulled his left arm back in the air. Subsequently, the hooded figure did a punching motion, except that it was done to use the concealed blade underneath his left arm.

But instead of stabbing the suit-wearing man, he damaged the TV screen with the concealed blade.

The hooded figure engaged the suit-wearing man inside the interrogation room, spending time blocking the latter's attempts to punch his face. For his first opponent in Yasoinaba, the hooded figure didn't realize that he was such a klutz that one of his punches nearly sent him falling.

"HAH!" The hooded figure went back on the offensive when a kick was executed on the suit-wearing man's right leg. This forced the man to kneel down. After this, the hooded figure executed a backfist that knocked out the man.

"WAIT!" Saki ran off after the hooded figure did his job, which forced him to run after her.

MOM arrived at the Center's command center, personally overseeing the black operation to secure Saki from the Yasoinaba Police Station.

"How are things going on, Billy?"

The small alien arrived via hoverchair before he greeted his superior. "So far, so good. He's been able to get inside without incident."

MOM observed all the surveillance camera feeds inside the station.

"Begin the operation. Start cutting off the feeds inside the station alongside the power supply. It's important that we get them out."

"Tae-sung and his partner should be arriving at the station in a few seconds."

"Good."

MOM eyed the surveillance camera feed outside the interrogation room when she saw Saki run into the corridor.

"Cut all power now."

"Understood."

The hooded figure was able to catch up with Saki in the station's staircase when power to the building was cut off, leaving everything in the dark.

Time to use it. The hooded figure adjusted his field of vision from normal to the same colored vision he used a while ago.

"What are you..." Saki demanded to know what the hooded figure was trying to do.

"Trust me! You're not safe here anymore!" The hooded figure spoke in his digitally altered voice. He took Saki by her left arm and dragged her towards the rear entrance of the station when a couple of uniformed officers tried to intercept them.

"Hold it there!" The officers were about to raise their Nambu Model 60s at the hooded figure when they were attacked from the rear.

"Eat taser!"

One of the officers began to convulse violently after being shot by two electrodes that came from a taser pistol. Subsequently, the officer dropped down on the ground, face first.

"ORYA!"

The second officer was attacked from the rear when a Running Cutter was executed, sending him down on the ground when his head made contact to the ground. Very hard.

<"Glad to see you guys made it!"> The hooded figure spoke to his saviors in English, Tae-sung and Mark, amidst the chaos. Mark had just gotten up from performing his cutter when Tae-sung removed the used cartridge from his taser pistol.

<"We need to go now. It'll be a matter of time before the officers are mobilized to get us."> Mark told her as he kicked the stunned officer down to make sure he was out cold.

<"Let's go. The vehicle's outside!"> Tae-sung urged the hooded figure and Saki to follow him. Together, the four ran out of the station's rear entrance towards a 2010 Tata Sumo Grande Dicor with a castle grey finish. It had the license plates Utsunomiya 310 89-53.

"Where are we going?" Saki said as she was ushered into the Indian-made SUV.

"You'll be safe with us." Tae-sung said as he got in the driver's seat with Mark got in the front passenger seat. The hooded figure got in the rear passenger seat alongside Saki.

Before the officers could intercept the SUV, it drove off towards the outskirts of the town.

A 2011 Renault Fluence in a mars grey finish and a 2010 Ford Everest in a black mica finish were parked on the side of the road leading away from Yasoinaba. Both of them had Tottori-based license plates. The former had the plates Tottori 503 22-99 and the latter had Tottori 303 44-32.

"Here we are."

Tae-sung got of the Sumo Grande Dicor with Mark, the hooded figure and Saki. Plainclothed Center agents got out of the vehicles to greet them and provide perimeter security.

A portal appeared near the parked vehicles. A 2011 Vauxhall Insignia Elite hatchback with a silver lake finish with license plates Tottori 501 45-10 emerged out of the portal.

<"Greetings, MOM."> The hooded figure greeted MOM.

<"I see that you made it back safely."> MOM greeted the agents. <"I'll arrange for Ms. Konishi to be taken to protective custody.">

<"Thanks, MOM."> Tae-sung told his superior when Saki was escorted to the parked Insignia Elite.

<"As for you,"> MOM addressed the hooded figure. <"head back to your place for the meantime. It's possible for your guardian to check up on you once he gets the news on the black ops we pulled off. I'll getting chatter that the police are being mobilized to locate Ms. Konishi, taken that her life was in danger.">

<"Does this mean that we got an enemy working as a mole in the police?"> The hooded figure asked.

<"It's the likely situation. But we don't know what's the extent. There's going to be misinformation spread by whoever was trying to attack Ms. Konishi. So she's not safe here.">

"This way." A plainclothed Center agent directed Saki to the parked Insignia Elite. "We'll be taking you to protective custody." He had a black windbreaker, jeans and combat boots on.

"What about my family?" Saki asked the Center agent.

"I'm sorry, but you can't contact them with you nearly being attacked back at the station."

Saki was silent when she saw the hooded figure enter through a portal materialized for him to go through. After Saki got inside the sedan, all of the vehicles got through another portal that led back to the Center.

The hooded figure emerged through the portal, which led to a room in the Dojima residence.

"Oniichan! Are you going out for your jogging?!"

The figure removed his windbreaker and looked at the door. "I will Nanako. I'm just fixing my clothes."

"Okay, Yu-niichan! My dad's saying that he'll be a bit late. Something just happened back at the station."

"Sure thing."
